BrianFord Does anyone have any information or experience? Pushes all the right buttons.
  2. Changed circumstances makes parallel comparisons difficult. My sense from talking to older gay friends (not a lot older, btw!) is that when gays left their hometowns and ended up in certain cities like New York and San Francisco the combination of new venues and shed inhibitions led to wild times. The AIDS epidemic in the 80's & 90's followed by greater acceptance has made it easier for many of us to choose where to live based more on career opportunities than lifestyle acceptance. Then throw social media into the mix.
  3. I agree with Epigonos. It is too easy, even if well intentioned, to say the wrong thing. I would add that a helpful gesture is calling a grieving friend some time after their loss. Friends have told me that they were overwhelmed with funeral details and expressions of sympathy at the time of a family member's death. Then they never hear from anyone afterwards. I try to call friends about two weeks after their loss just to ask, "How are you?"
  4. "Harris Hilton"? Is this the str8 equivalent of a drag name?
  5. I used to see Jose in Wilton Manors/Ft. Lauderdale every visit. (Well-built Mexican with true skills & training) He seems to have disappeared. He had good reviews on Daddy's which I don't see anymore. Maybe it's been more years than I realize. Does anyone remember him?
  6. Are you planning to approach this hobby any differently when it appears the COVID threat is past and we've been vaccinated? For example, like many of us, I went into severe lockdown mode for several months starting last March. Remember how concerned we were about shopping for groceries? Then I loosened up a bit during summer. Now I've decided to just wait until I get vaccinated. Going forward I think I will lean toward "Tried and True" over "Flavor of the Month." New hot guys, with little experience at this, who travel city to city are less appealing to me now. I have a renewed appreciation for those who make a career of this, are known on this forum and who maintain a loyal following. Not living in CA or FL the pool of such hires is smaller but some travel and I can travel a bit too. Has the virus changed, or re-affirmed, your preferences?
  7. While my research consisted of little more than this thread I decided to book a trip to Fort Lauderdale. While Puerto Vallarta is cheaper and warmer in February there's legitimate concern about new restrictions and re-entry requirements. Ideally, I'll have both shots before my mid-February departure.
  8. When you get complimented for helping an elderly gentleman cross the street. And he's your date!
  9. When I needed glasses to read what was posted on this forum. ?
  10. Luibit, you reminded me about travel. We do usually sleep together on trips. We took a cruise in fall 2019. I guess that won't happen again for some time.
  11. Do partnered members, especially if you've been together for a long time, still sleep together? My partner of almost 20 years and I used to share a bed. Now we have separate rooms. Even when we do have sex we sometimes return to our own beds. In fact, my room is the one we used to "entertain" guests to keep our bed clean. Older straight couples sometimes shift to twin beds but I have never heard of it for gays.
  12. I liked and mostly miss bars. Years ago when I traveled for work stopping in a local bar was a way to learn a bit about the town and pick up the local gay magazine. It all seems so ancient now. The bars that succeed draw a mostly older crowd. Think Twin Peeks in San San Francisco and Martinis in San Diego. Fort Lauderdale presently has a number of functioning bars but it has an older demographic and tourists. A conservative business plan that seeks an older crowd and low overhead (own the building or get a reasonable rent) makes more sense than trying to replicate the big venues of the past.
  13. Me too! And I suspect many others.
  14. I appreciate the response and am not being a smart ass but I'm not sure of PV's appeal without clubs. I recall only small amounts of beachfront not run by restaurants or resorts. Did I miss something?
  15. Sorry to hear that. Travel for me like many of us, I suspect, is predicated on getting the vaccine.
  16. Has anyone traveled recently? Living in the cold Northeast I always enjoy a winter respite. I am not anxious to get on a plane until vaccinated. Also, friends who visited Florida over Christmas were aghast at the lack of mask wearing. If I get the shot(s) before winter ends I'd like to travel. Are Fort Lauderdale, Key West and Puerto Vallarta drawing tourists?
  17. The other half of the duo just died 8 months after his partner Roy Horn. I never saw their act. Have any forum members? Also, since we have some Las Vegas residents and visitors, I'm curious as to whether or not they were visible on the gay scene. While they were pretty candid about their relationship they may have been too famous to visit a club.
  18. This is everyone's fantasy! Congrats for living and sharing it
  19. These guys are so friendly! Was talking with them the other day about food and two of the cousins said they'd cook us a traditional meal with lamb. Before my fantasies get carried away I have to remember that they are just being friendly, are straight and may not even realize we're gay. Maybe we'll take them up when the weather is warmer if they wear tank tops!
  20. I'm curious if anyone's gaydar pings around certain nationalities or types of guys. My bf is restoring an old pick-up truck and the garage that's helping him is run by an extended Lebanese family. Some combination of looks, accents and friendliness induces speculation. Undoubtedly, baseless speculation. Something similar occurred a few years ago in Turkey. Shaved eyebrows, warm smiles and lots of touching could have led to a lot of misunderstanding.
  21. Bump. Presently in Boston.
  22. I agree. Thanks for posting it. Arguably, Jonathan Bailey, who plays Anthony Bridgerton, has a more defined body. And I believe he's on our team. But it's the whole package that makes Rege-Jean Page so appealing.
  23. I am inexplicably having a major crush on Rege-Jean Page. The last time I fell so head over heels for a TV character was Don Johnson (Sonny Crockett) on Miami Vice. My defense then was that I was a mere lad. This however, is exceeding the acceptable boundaries of my David Muir and Benjamin Nicholas crushes.
