    Things you miss

Jamie21 and Skip put things in perspective and I certainly wouldn't want to go backwards in time. However, I (and I suspect many of us) do miss some of the things Woofiecmh mentions. I can do without the malls 😀, downtowns were always better. But I miss some of the staples of gay culture. Recently heard Martini's on 4th is gone in San Diego. Are there any gay piano bars left?
  2. He's changed his RM ad name from Hazam to The_RealDeal.
  3. Some combination of maturity and common sense tells us when we've outgrown things. Are any members here planning to go Trick-or-Treating? Oh yeah, that's for kids. I guess I should be grateful that like you Joe Mendoza, if given the choice I'd rather have a cocktail and a nice meal.
  4. I'm concerned that several of DC's draws are now closed. One could attend the weekend of MAL and have a lot of fun even if not registered for the main event. Secrets/Zigfield's the drag/stripper bar is closed. The DC Eagle which got playful is gone. DC Hummer (which used to be CODE DC) which hosted a few events a year appears to be a covid casualty. There is no evidence that they or anyone else will run the clothes-check mega event at the Glorious Health Club. As much a I enjoyed brunch at Annie's it looks like it's the only venue still open. Do any DC members have other event or place suggestions?
  5. It's been a year and 8 months so forgive my memory lapses. I went on the Wet and Wild day boat trip which was a lot of fun. I went with a small group from my resort but everyone mixed well. Spartacus is fun! I enjoyed the shows at Blue Chairs. Maybe I went on off nights but I didn't care for the bars with strippers/go-go's. They looked like bored straight guys and kept trying to sell private dances. I preferred having too many drinks and camping it up with the fun bunch of old queens at the piano bar. (forget name)
  6. Has anyone watched the movie? I believe it's new to Netflix. As bad as the English dubbing sometimes was on the series I preferred it subtitles when watching late and tired. Not sure if dubbing is an option with the movie.
  7. If only Austin Wilde would post an ad!!!
  8. The ManRay site is now $1Million+ condos. Cambridge’s only other gay bar Paradise is now a biotech company. I don’t think it has hurt applications but Harvard and MIT boys have no local gay bars. 😀
  9. Actually, that is one of the survivors. The restaurant and bar are neighborhood hangouts and there are shows a few nights a week. Interestingly, Cathedral Station in the South End and "dbar" in Dorchester are restaurant/bars. Maybe that's the path to survival, at least in this area.
  10. I mourn the loss of Gayborhoods in so many cities. Boston's South End had several bars, coffee shops and gay businesses. The last bar just closed and the gentrified neighborhood is almost all straight. DC had the respectable gay Dupont Circle and the notorious area later cleared for the National's ballpark. Even the Castro is shrinking. Who could have imagined a go-fund-me to save Twin Peaks? I'm glad Wilton Manors endures. Someone better silence me the next time I complain about it!
  11. The Boston bar scene died pre-Covid. Some of it was due to high rents. Also very strict enforcement regarding nudity and action. Despite a young population and a large gay population two popular venues are also restaurants. Providence, RI is nearby, It has always been less restrictive than Boston. Nonetheless the vibrant bar scene is shrinking. The strip bars closed for lack of business and the dance venues are fewer and smaller. One West Hollywood bar has more patrons on a Thursday night than all of Boston combined.
  12. No self-respecting gay man should ever approach a buffet line. What's next, wine in a box? 😀
  13. Lots of good insights. The thought of staying sexually active remains a good incentive for taking care of oneself. Ironically, after years of never having sex with guys much older than me I now have an aversion to particularly young guys. When hiring, I'd rather have another go with some of the best known providers here, whose abilities are well known, as opposed to the newest flavor of the month. A couple of years ago I had one of the best times ever at Steamworks in Chicago playing with guys my age and older. I watched other guys my age repeatedly try to move in on groups that weren't welcoming them. I vowed never to put myself in that position.
  14. Regrettably for me the Daddy thing never appealed to me in my youth. (If only I could go back and re-do!) In fact, in my twenties I probably thought 40 was ancient. I used to think sex was over at 50. That concept may have been reinforced by a number of straight friends and co-workers who let themselves go physically and implied that there wasn't much spark in their sex lives. As I get older I realize that was one of many mistaken notions. Especially in the gay community guys take care of themselves. This hobby is fun for meeting younger guys. Most of my encounters however, are with guys my age. Rather than chasing the Fountain of Youth I frequent venues where I meet guys my age. For example, I'm more Club House II than Club Fort Lauderdale! Recently, I met an amazing 73 year old fit top. His German accent and stamina blew me away. Although he's only 15 years older than me it got me excited to think that there may be more years of healthy sex ahead than I thought. My guess is that this community consists of guys who want to keep at it. Do any "older" members wish to share their age? Or that of friends? Can any providers tell us the ages of older clients?
  15. Does he offer more than massage? Some time ago I heard or read that he transitioned from top to masseur only. Does anyone know present offerings?
  16. He testified under a grant of immunity. The testimony should never have been allowed as evidence once given under that pretext. The rules were egregiously ignored due to the Me Too climate. The prosecution reasonably concluded that it was the best way for the victim to win a civil judgement. That isn't justifying Cosby's behavior. The rules can't change mid-game.
  17. Terrific personality, sexy, cuddly & affectionate & fully versatile. Met recently and was VERY pleased.
  18. Kris Lord danced at the now defunct Tramps in Providence before he filmed a couple of videos. He was amazingly attractive such that he stood out amongst a pool of handsome guys. And a killer smile/grin!
  19. I was in a Provincetown restaurant last summer ordering a pre-dinner cocktail. I asked my companion if a Pomegranate martini would make me look more butch than a Cosmopolitan? He replied, "Honey, it ain't the drink." The waitress guffawed.
  20. My first hire was with a friend. I naively knew little about the business beyond seeing ads in the personal section of the local DC gay rag. A FB invited me to join him for a birthday celebration. He had arranged a hire from an agency and we had a ball. That was so many years ago! A few years later a couple I was friends with hired a guy to liven up a small group party. I got his number and called him later. That was my first "official" hire. I think doing so with friend is a comfortable way to try it out.

https://rent.men/NYWolfman Does anyone have any experience? Nothing found here
  23. I think Ewan McGregor was great and proved that straight can play gay and presumably vice versa. I also appreciated the way a mainstream production can acknowledge male sexual activity. You didn't have to be a genius to figure out he was size queen bottom.
