Haven't seen him in a long while, but for a couple of years. I used to get a massage from a guy who was also in real estate. Only therapeutic, but he did massage the upper glutes. My parents couldn't afford to put any of us kids through college. Fortunately, college was a lot less expensive in the late 70's, but still not easy. I had jobs the whole time. My first summer home, had a job in an auto parts factory, maybe $4 an hour. Late in the summer, I suddenly got a call about my application at another auto parts factory that paid $8, or $9 per hour. A lot of money then. I got the job, and had to join the UAW. Since it was so late in the summer, I was still behind in cash. I worked the factory job on the afternoon shift, and got a job at a 24 hour convenience store working the midnight shift. Didn't get a lot of sleep, and lost a lot of weight. All my subsequent summers, I worked the UAW job. They always welcomed me back. Banked a lot of cash each summer. When back at college, I worked two days a week at a convenience store near campus for spending money. I think my total college loan debt came to only about two maybe three grand. I don't see it being possible today given the extremely high cost of education today.

Two sides to every story. 15-20 minutes may not seem bad from a providers point of view, and a one off should not bother a client. But, don't let it get out of hand.

It gets annoying. A guy I meet several times, and really enjoyed his company when were were together. He was very generous with his time, so I overlooked it a first. He lived 30 miles away in a further out suburb. First couple of meetings, all when well. The first time it happened, I was just leaving my garage, and the phone rang. Could I give him a little extra time. I said no problem, I was just leaving, and would text him when I got to his parking lot. i think I had to wait only 5 minutes or so before he texted to ring the buzzer. Next time, I was on the tollway, and heard the phone. I didn't look at it until I exited, and pulled over on a side street. He needed another 15 minutes. I Just drove around for a while. Then the next time, while on my way, a text. Needs more time. Wants me to text him when I get there. I pull into a strip mall near his apartment, use the bathroom at the Starbucks, and go back to my car, text him to say where I'm at. There I am, sitting in my car, waiting for a text. It wasn't really long, but still, not good. I probably should have gone home. Our last scheduled meeting never happened. We agreed on 4:30 several days before. I wasn't feeling great the day of, so decided to take a nap around noon, and set my alarm for 2:00. Woke up, and there was a text on my phone. He wanted to move the meeting to 7:00pm, that way, I could avoid traffic, and he could run errands. Still groggy, I texted back ok, thought it would give me more time to sleep. I go back to bed, and wake up at 4:00, and still don't feel good. I decide to call and cancel. His first response was only to ask if I wanted to reschedule. I said I'd wait to see how I feel later. I never did reschedule.

Wow. I hired one local guy six times for a couple of years, another visitor four times, and three visitors once, and met one of those visitors in another city. Roughly, I'd say, counting fees, and if he's not in the burbs, the cost/points for a hotel in the city to avoid a 1-2 hour commute each way in and out of the city, the cost of going to another city, and the associated expenses that go with a night or two staying in a hotel, over the last couple of years, my guess is I've spent only about 15 grand.

Don't think an expired ad always means no point in making an inquiry. I once emailed a guy, who was no longer advertising, using his Daddys Review email address. It was over two weeks before he responded, but when he did, he said he was still in the business. We met six times over the course of a couple of years. All the time, he was never advertising.

If I've learned one thing here, it can happen with any client/provider meeting. Hire someone highly regarded, but leave feeling disappointed to one extent or another. Makes me appreciate the good ones I've hired all the more.
