i heard an interviewee this morning cite (apparently with background knowledge that it was accurate) a BBC report that the costs alone will be an 8 figure amount (so at least £10m), and just now a report that damages will be $20m (so over $US12m). One important point from the result is that despite endless case settlements earlier without any admissions of guilt, News Limited have accepted that they acted unlawfully. This will remove the option in future claims against them of plausibly seeking a 'no admissions' settlement.

Some of his many reviews on RM (he's been there since 2019 and has over 100) refer to him as Cowboy. I remember a name with Bama in it, but don't recall if that was the same person (or same RM ad) as this guy.

You created a thread on this provider last week. You should have posted this comment there, so I've merged the two threads.

Usual rates for hiring in NYC?
mike carey replied to MyWhorishWays's topic in Questions About Hiring
It didn't end up here (until now), you posted it in a different thread: -
Agree.

Lol, I read that as 411 to start with.

Usual rates for hiring in NYC?
mike carey replied to MyWhorishWays's topic in Questions About Hiring
There were clearly Hotel price comments in the thread but they look like they had been tangents posted in the escort threads. Even so, there is a separate topic there to be discussed so I've split them out into a new Hotel Rates in NYC thread in the Travel Desk. -
... And he came here in 2021 to ask about response times with a question that presupposed that 'taking hours' was the wrong answer. An apiary in his hat?

Unassuming Hung Nerd Looking For Tech Career Help
mike carey replied to SamRockdale's topic in The Lounge
I googled them and SWE is indeed (or can be) software engineer, but I came up with maximum likelihood estimation which is an arcane statistics function rather than necessarily computer science (although probably relevant). Machine learning sounds more plausible. Still we're speculating here, and all most of us can actually offer Sam is 'Good Luck'. So Sam, hope you can find a good job that uses your degree. So you can continue with your side gig of putting us in our place. Or some of us. -
Welcome to the forum Alex, I hope you find more productive uses for it than refuting criticisms or commenting on other negative posts. Most members here will appreciate it when you put your side of the story, and even more if you engage with positive commenters. You may even find other things here to be interesting. Good luck!

An interesting article to read (or listen to) from the Atlantic on the risk of mud and debris flows in the event of a rain event in steeper burned areas. L.A. Isn’t Ready for What’s Next - The Atlantic WWW.THEATLANTIC.COM Sooner or later, a winter storm will hit, and deadly mudslides and debris flows that will likely follow.

This new thread started today combined with two others on the subject in the last 12 months. -
A member blocking me - to what degree is that impacted?
mike carey replied to viewing ownly's topic in Feedback
First, an issue of terminology. We tend to use block and ignore interchangeably here. Technically we have an Ignore function but there is no capacity to block other members. As a user here, you do not have the capability to block other people from reading your posts, ignoring is a one-way process. @viewing ownly, as @BuffaloKyle said, if someone has you on ignore, they can't see anything that you post directly but they will see anything you have posted if someone else quotes you. You shouldn't be able to see if someone else is ignoring you, but if you become aware that they are, I wouldn't be too concerned that they hadn't seen your advice. Remember that while you may think of what you say as personal advice to them, it's not just that, you are contributing to a wider conversation and may end up being useful to someone else, few issues are unique to the person who raises them in a thread, and if you have raised an idea that someone else sees merit in, it will be taken up by other posters. -

Indeed, but not everyone appears to have a conscience. Profiteering in the face of tragedy flies in the face of the social contract that helps bind society together. That social contract is evident in the volunteers who have come out to assist the displaced, from individuals to community organisations and NGOs, and most people want governments to play a part in providing assistance. There will always be disagreements about the extent that the social contract should be enforced by law, but prohibiting the unconscionable is one area where there might be some consensus.

Interesting that the Guardian should choose to illustrate the story with a photo of a miniature English box.

If you go to the bottom of any page and click on Theme, this will appear, and you can select the Legacy Theme. Yes, it took me a moment to find it even though I had known about it before, so don't feel bad about it!!
