Now and again. For my business, I don't write a single check, ever. All my recurring bills are automatically paid out of my operating account. I use a debit card for non-recurring bills. I haven't switched yet, but I'm thinking of paying the business expenses with my AMEX, for the Starwood points.

I can imagine it being awkward if you're with others, but if you're alone, or virtually alone, as in a crowded gym, there doesn't seem to be any reason for discomfort.

I encountered a meth freak once during an upaid hookup. Somebody who knew him even told me he thought he was a meth freak. I got to his house and chatted with him - sure enough he was working his jaws and couldn't sit still for more than a few seconds. I just said I wasn't into it and left. I've never had a problem with hires. But then, it would be surprising, in the kind of guy that I go for, to encounter it.

When I was a little kid - a distant relative laid in state at home. They lived in an isolated, rural part of the state where people still did things the old-fashioned way. We weren't allowed at the funeral because my parents thought that little kids didn't belong at funerals. We staid with some neighbors down the road. We stood in the front yard and watched as the pallbearers brought the casket out the front door and down the front steps. They were professionals, all dressed identically, and walked in step, carrying the casket on their shoulders. It seemed like such a grand end for a modest little old lady.

I think with the trend toward cremation followed by memorial service, there can be a fairly long interval between death and the funeral. My mother died in late March and we didn't have her funeral until the middle of April.

Why are you dealing with the Conservator's Office? You don't seem to be somebody in need of conservatorship. You need to start teasing out services for the aging. Every community community has them. In large cities, there's usually a single number you can call that will hook you up with all sorts of services and agencies. A small community like yours is probably more challenging, but the services are there. They may be provided by government agencies, non-profits, churches. There may be food banks, transportation assistance, assistance filling out forms to apply for benefits, meals-on-wheels, etc., all sorts of things.
