  1. I remember. And at least one fictionalized version (the TV show Aquarius) was clear about Manson's white supremacist paranoia.
  2. I also find this questionable. Even if they know of the test, they should still need probable cause and a warrant to access it, just as they would if you refused a request from law enforcement. Note the article above says test results are turned over as a result of a court order. It seems naive to think law enforcement wouldn't pursue their own tests if there's no pre-existing one.
  3. There was a widespread feeling at the time that their wealth had protected them from charges and that the killings were driven by greed. I didn't follow the trial but evidence of abuse could have lessened the charges to manslaughter and be a mitigating factor in sentencing.
  4. Fun facts: The Industrial Revolution was financed by destroying the Indian textile industry. British slave owners were compensated by the government. Newly-freed slaves received nothing. The British economy at the height of the empire relied on the sale of opium. Today that would be called a drug cartel. Winston Churchill countermanded plans to make food available to ameliorate the 1943 Bengal famine. 3 million people died at the same time Indian soldiers were in the field fighting WWII on behalf of the empire. Every time anyone says Anglo or European culture is superior, I laugh.
  5. No. Members of my family didn't even recognize my first cousin Mary in a photo from the 1940s. The only person who recognized her was her husband. Yes, my cousin not only didn't recognize herself but didn't remember the photo. But if I knew the person's name, I would be able to make a fairly accurate guess. See also: http://askakorean.blogspot.com/2008/09/ultimate-korean-looks-list-how-to-pick.html Best part: "Facial Expression – in a neutral state (i.e. not talking with a friend or watching something in particular), Koreans tend to look like they are pissed off." P.S. The question is actually about East Asians, not Asians in general. The above blog post says if you can't distinguish Southeast Asians from East Asians, you might as well hang it up. That's absolutely true.
  6. This wasn't a matter of a host inviting someone else but a guest bringing two more people. No, it's not the end of the world, but it's presumptuous and inconsiderate.
  7. I can't do comparison shopping online or select items by expiration date. I can't pick up something I wasn't planning on because it's a good price. No one else is as good at selecting what I want as I am. (Yes, I'm a control freak.)
  8. Life can be random and who dies when (and why) seemingly unjust. Keep on keeping on the best you can.
  9. Sounds like a scam to me.
  10. Imagining yourself as someone for whom a tattoo would be meaningful is what's needed here. If that's not possible, there's no way not to come across as judgmental.
  11. As someone who would never get a tattoo and dislikes the look of most full-color tattoos, I am bemused as to why this form of self-expression receives such visceral hate. It borders on "hot men only exist to give me visual (and other) pleasure." Accept that other people have autonomy over what they do with their bodies. Is that really so hard? No one has the right to dictate others' choices.
  12. No, it's because of the way her rejection was described. I've never seen it. Also, the setup tracks transition - same person, different gender identity.
  13. Penguin figurines, although I just downsized it recently.
  14. Today Dr. Crusher's reaction would be considered transphobic.
  15. Not everyone reacts the way you do. Not everyone realizes they can.
  16. I attended high school with a girl named Gay Fellowes. We graduated in 1974. The use of the term to mean homosexual had not yet happened in our upstate New York community, and I didn't know of or hear about any teasing or negative repercussions. But the guy who moved from downstate and carried his books in a backpack was given a harder time than the guy most people assumed was gay because he came across as femme, so who knows?
  17. Non-sex workers are the innocent? Does that make escorts guilty? If so, why?
  18. Because sex is not the point. Exploitation is.
  19. There are already many other such allegations.
  20. But Rapp didn't want it. You don't get to judge his preferences by your own. This sounds a lot like the "you should feel honored" response to grownass women (mostly teachers) raping teenage boys.
  21. And possibly sleepy or even napping after watching TV. Also the element of surprise is a factor.
  22. He's a public figure. Standard is actual malice: said with disregard as to whether it's true or knowledge of falsity. Given the number of friends he confided in, I seriously doubt that standard could possibly be met. (Facts determined based on more likely than not standard.) Besides, in the circumstances, this is all moot. Spacey didn't deny the allegations.
  23. So much for "not credible." Also, it's clear from the statement that Spacey's bedroom was where Rapp, bored with the party, went to watch TV. That he might be unaware that everyone else had left isn't surprising.
  24. Everyone is a sexual assailant who gets their jollies from sexual contact without checking with the other person first? Good to know.
  25. You sure that applies to video? If wiretapping laws don't apply, it's likely not illegal as long as it's not sold/used for profit and usage doesn't run afoul of anti-revenge porn laws enacted by a handful of states. I mean, upskirt photography isn't illegal in most places. There was a case in Massachusetts that was dismissed for this reason; I believe the legislature fixed that.
