We had a fun (?) false alarm with my Dad's system. He accidentally pushed the alert button while he was in the basement. The base unit, and the phone, is upstairs - the company called him when they got the alert, got no answer, so they called 911 for him, and then my sister and I (his contacts). My sister & I both headed over to his place, I was halfway there when I got a call from my sister saying it was a false alarm. Dad came out of the bathroom to find the paramedics in his kitchen. We tried to do a dry run of the alert system on my next visit to my Dad, to see if there was any indication on the base unit that it had been activated; that was difficult because he was embarrassed by the whole incident and wanted to forget it.

Danger, Will Robinson!

Continuing hijacking my own thread into the gender/race swapping discussion, I just saw that they're remaking Robin Hood. Jamie Foxx is playing Little John - apparently, they've made him a Moor in this version. Taron Egerton plays Robin Hood, I wonder if he's going through the same training for the build he had in the first Kingsmen movie. Just one quick shirtless clip in the teaser trailer I saw, difficult to tell. Maid Marian's still a white woman -
I skipped it for the same reasons @quoththeraven did, I thought it was a ripoff of BBC's Sherlock, which I absolutely love. But I agree that the first couple of seasons were better, I'm not sure if I'd put it as "imploded" :-) I've previously mentioned that I don't mind gender/race swapping at all, in fact I'm a big fan of it, but I'm not a big Lucy Liu fan. She and Bill Murray feuded on the first Charlie's Angels. If I recall correctly, it's similar to Cybill Shepherd & Bruce Willis on "Moonlighting", where she was resentful of sharing top billing with "a guy who was a bartender last week".

To answer your original question: I do get to work on time, I'm one of the first few people in the office. But I rarely pay attention to my phone. We work in an environment where email and instant messaging are, by far, the preferred methods of communication; followed by the impromptu "stop-by-your-desk". I realize this may not be a workable model for salesmen.
-
We got a similar system for my Dad a year or two ago. They have a 24/7 tech support number. That's who I'd call, not the salesman. There was a joke floating around the software company I worked at years ago... Q: What's the difference between a used car salesman and a software salesman? A: A used car salesman knows when he's lying.

Wasn't this a Next Gen episode? There was a body behind the wall in the warp core room or something?

Are There Any Phrases, Expressions You Hate?

How do you mean, QTR? "This is of concern to me", rather than "This is concerning to me"? The latter is incorrect? -
How did I miss this? I google "Chaosmen Vander Escort" regularly (or so I thought). The ad's expired, and no guarantees that it's him, but...https://rent.men/VanderPulaski

As a client (and one in your area), I can't remember ever hiring off A4A.
-
Yes, I totally do. I remember thinking "Well, apparently I have to spell 'shit' with six 'i's. Five 'i's is on the list.
-
I worked on a website that encouraged user comments, but we put them through a filter for objectionable words. The filter list was amazing. Some I'd never heard of and even googling them brought up no clues, and there were dozens of spelling variations of "cock" and other words.

Who would you hire for $500 for 1 hour?

Yeah, Archie caught my eye too. He only did the two scenes (a solo and a partner scene), last one was about a month ago; hope he comes back. -
Like so many things, I'd guess it varies from escort to escort. Personally, I would go ahead & contact them (text/email) but not expect a timely response. I wouldn't phone them.

I've worn nothing but Crocs 95% of the time for the past few years. Let the shaming begin...

I've tried to reach @tristanbaldwin a few times (text, email, msg via here) since I found out he was coming to Detroit in June. Based on all this advice, I'll keep trying.

Has there ever been a proposed "standard" for post titles?
+ poolboy48220 replied to MisterMike's topic in The Lounge
I have this same thought about many people at work who don't see the value of a good subject line in their emails :-) I know I'm more likely to check out a discussion here if the title gives more information (city, name, whatever). I've thought about bringing up this topic before, but just didn't have the motivation to try to push people to do what should seem obvious. -
Watching A TV Show After An Actor Has Died
+ poolboy48220 replied to + Avalon's topic in Comedy & Tragedy
the radio show "Car Talk" continued to be broadcast after the brothers hosting it (Tom and Ray Magliozzi, known also as "Click and Clack, the Tappet Brothers") retired in 2012, and still after Tom died late 2014. They stopped broadcasting late last year.
