Wasn't William Hopper gay, @Avalon? I believe Hedda had a difficult time accepting his sexual preference.

@Unicorn I remember your posts here about previous relationships (as I mentioned above). The obvious response: I am glad you are so happy, but, given the age difference, some day he will have to take care of you, regardless of your detailed medical planning for the future. Will your lawyer be greatly involved also?

Having a lot of experience in relationships with younger men has drawbacks as well, especially if some did not end well.

I agree about the strong connection with mothers. Also, @Unicorn has written about other romantic relationships here over the years. So in Unicorn's defense, he has quite a bit of experience. I have been more than a bit critical of this relationship because of his SO's mom - a very difficult situation.

I do not understand. Lucilly Ball and Mary Martin liked Hedda Hopper as a person.

@Avalon I know little about Parsons except Hearst. But, some celebrated people actually liked Hedda Hopper. For better or worse, people like Parsons and Hopper no longer cover Hollywood.

When Joey Stefano returned to Philadelphia for Gay Pride in the 1991 he looked fine if you only saw him from the distance, not up-close. Eighteen is just too young and he was an example for those who knew him earlier.

Don't the flights begin in Hanoi, not South Vietnam. Nothing against North Vietnam. I know it has been just Vietnam for decades. But, I would want to see the many changes in and around where I spent a year in the Army in 1968-69. (and Ho Chi Minh City)

Yes, it is general statement that does not apply across the board. My dad died when I was 16 before we had a chance to discuss college. So it was up to my mother who did not finish high school. She became friendly with the high school guidance counselor, who helped me get accepted to a college that seemed beyond my reach. I was very grateful, but certainly not invincible. Thank you, @E.T.Bass for helping me think more and perhaps better.

Many doctors work much more than eight hours a day. Sure it can be inconvenient for the patient and the substitute doctor. But every day ilife is occasionally inconvenient.

I never felt invincible and in control at age 18. Back then I was freshman in college just trying to make it through the academic year. The next summer at age 19, I felt a bit more in control.
