  1. I agree after looking again. Part of the problem is not being sure what is new without stores like Giovanni's Room. It is particularly difficult for new gay authors. Less of a problem for Alan Hollingsworth.
  2. @Charlie, according to their website, the new version of Giovanni's Room is still selling new book. I have not been there in years, so will visit soon.
  3. "between forty and death" is from the novel "Auntie Mame," and probably the two film versions.
  4. Ed, because of contract differences, Ethel was replaced by Dinah Shore in the cast recording. Merman did her songs on another LP, now on CD. Not everyone liked Ethel. yet she is essential in understanding mid 20 th century Broadway
  5. Your second paragraph reminds me of my six grade teacher, just back from a mandatory one-day teachers conversation. She said to the entire class, "I am often surprised at how many teachers dislike children."
  6. Easy. Seeing Judy Garland perform for about two and a half hours
  7. I've hired two porn guys who talked on and on, but neither wore a watch, and seemed not to care about charging for additional time. Theo had a right to ask for more money, but it was the client's decision. Accompanying a client to an ATM is way outside normal behavior. Excellent way for the provider to never get repeat clients.
  8. The 1950 Irving Berlin musical has some charming numbers, but without a monster personality at it's center it seems less a comedy than a requiem. New York Times Jesse Green: Without Ethel Merman, a Limp "Call Me Madam" at Encores! Comment: Other women are successful in Gypsy and Annie Get Your Gun. So perhaps the lesson by JG is stay away from most of other Merman musicals.
  9. A different opinion, @Benjamin_Nicholas. I remember staying close to Dubrovnik, and driving into the city early in the morning. Lovely experience, until the cruise ship folks arrived for lunch.
  10. I understand. My post was about a gay site, datalounge. Some of the threads are interesting, but more than a few are just silly gossip.
  11. My guess isthe people who post on that thread on datalounge are mostly women. Whoever posts is concerned that is latest lover does not know that Timmy first love is Armies Hammer. So it is all ridiculous.
  12. For people who want more up to date information about Timothee, there are multiple threads about his life (all speculation) over at datalounge.
  13. Jesse Smollett was defiant at a concert on Saturday night at the Troubadour nightclub in West Hollywood: "I have so many words in my heart that I want to say, but the most important thing is thank you so much, and that I am O.K " Smollett said that although he had not fully healed, "I had to be here tonight." He said he could not let his attackers win, referring to them with an expletive.
  14. My brother asked my dad that question on the way to church years ago. He gave the same answer, but dad had a serious heart condition, and must have thought about it a great deal He died Forty-eight hours later when home from work on a lunch break. I take comfort that our mom was with him during that fatal heart attack.
  15. I love the beginning,: "There are so many based out here....." Eck! (I was actually in the U.S. military.)
  16. Around 2000, legitimate escort services like WOW in New York City would give you half off on the next hire if there was an obvious problem. The one time it happened the replacement escort was wonderful, and I hired him again. But, that was almost 20 years ago. WOW hired male models as escorts.
  17. One night only at Lincoln Center, New York City. March 4 Richard Burton first played King Arthur in the early 1960s musical. Julie Andrews was also in the cast in the musical by Lerner and Loewe. The concert director won Tony Award for the revival of the musical South Pacific.
  18. The two words (things "sucking" and being a "douche") are used by people who have never said anything even vaguely "homophobic."
  19. I worked in a factory during college summers. Some factory work is very precise and demanding; other jobs are simply boring and repetitive. The last summer I had to be wide awake and alert all the time, or I would have lost several fingers. In fact, it was too much. Not all factory work is like what Lucy and Ethel did in one the best episodes of early television.
  20. Uh. The television The Sound of Music followed the Original Broadway script from 1959. I did see the TSOM on stage in 1960. To be fair, the film was better.
  21. The South Pacific Concert DVD was somewhat different from the live performance with Reba and Brian Stocks Mitchell at Carnegie. They also used scenes from the dress rehearsal.
  22. Not a great subject. I knew someone who died skydiving.
  23. @purplekow , Bruno's sister and her sons were far more genuine than Carmela Soprano. Instead of just talking about helping poor communittees, they were active in programs that worked to minimize child abuse And Bruno was murdered long before The Sopranos.
  24. For several years my supervisor was the sister of a legendary Philadelphia mob boss, Angelo Bruno. She was far more sophisticated than Tony's older sister, Janice. Yet she was a person who could not be completely trusted. Angelo Bruno was murdered while sitting in his car, just about to turn the ignition on. Even though he was concerned a kindly boss, I never forgot that his sister, my supervisor, was married to one of Bruno's bosses I was very glad when she left. Tony and Carmela may have been somewhat glorified on "The Sopranos,' But they were terrible people.
  25. I different showrunner might have chosen Christopher or Jackie, Jr. as the gay mob member.
