+ José Soplanucas got a reaction from + azdr0710 in Medellin, nov/dec 2025
I am finishing packing and killing time before going to the airport in Recife and start my move to Medellin. It is going to be a long flight with two stops, first in SP and then in Bogotá. I will be landing in Medellin (if everything goes well) tomorrow at 10 am.
I opened a thread here where I will post frequent reports and updates.
I will be staying in a complex in Ciudad del Rio, when I booked it I had not researched the hood, I just liked it because it was one block away from the MOM and it was an area I enjoyed in a previous visit. Recently, I learned that it is a just developed new fancy neighborhood with lots of new upscale residencies, bars, coffee shops and restaurants. The area was cute when I walked through it a few years ago, but it was yet not as developed as I learned it is now.
It is very close to El Poblado, some reports frame it as "the gate" to Provenza and El Poblado. In my previous visit I stayed in less gentrified areas in Laureles, so I am very curious although I am certain I will miss the more authentic local experience provided by Laureles up to a few years ago.
If you have any suggestions about events or places to visit these next 40 days, please feel free to share in this thread. Just remember that I am not in a frenzy short trip trying to fuck every Colombian hottie available, but instead I am slow traveling on a very low budget, as my condo in DC is still in the market.
As I am aware some friends here do not like going to Gayguides and are not interested in international traveling, I will respond in this thread when anyone shows interest.
I will stay in Medayork up to December 15th, when I will be returning to Argentina, to my family and Ancient friends.

I am not well prepared to deal with all the hair growing from my ears.

Gracias, amigos. You made me feel better about myself.
To add to my embarrassment, not only would I get lost when driving. Everytime I would take Metro and walk out to the surface, I needed to walk at least up to a corner to get oriented, and most times I would walk towards the wrong corner, walking back once I realized I was heading in the wrong direction. This was so bad that I started to follow a new rule: if my fucked up sense of orientation would tell me to go one way, I would choose instead to go the opposite. It would work most times.

It is useless to give ME a map. Up to the universalization of smart phones and GPS, I would get lost in the DMV continuously. I would stop, park somewhere, and deploy several maps to try to find my way. The old tough times.
When I sold my car last July, I found out those maps were still there, growing mold in a trunk corner.

He will always be one of my all times favorite. As an interesting note, when I interviewed him for my blog I learned that he was suffering a psychotic episode when I hired him for the last time. Knowing his delusion gave me a completely different understanding about our interactions that day. Literally, I was blessed.

I use cash to pay the boys, CC for everything else. I recommend a chain of ATMs called Banco 24 Horas. You can withdraw 1000R and pay a 24R fee. Just remember to reject their exchange rate when the ATM asks you.

The shows? I have never weighted the shows in my evaluations, I am not sure why you bring in that topic. I still prefer 202 because of the boys and the atmosphere, but 117 has grown on my heart (ok, perhaps on some other organs too).
