As far as the stagnation of wages, I estimate that this is mainly because during times of economic uncertainty, most folks hunker down at work, don’t rock the boat by demanding a raise or promotion and don’t quit to avail themselves to the opportunity to earn more money for fear of being unemployed. Presumably most don’t even have an interview-ready resume on hand and prefer to draft one only when their current job is wrested from them. This works to the employers benefit because they can attempt to recoup costs through increasing the price of their goods or services while leaving the cost of labor relatively fixed. One should never expect employers to voluntarily increase wages when there is no pressure from anyone to do so. When times are good (or perceived to be good) employees feel more confident to move around, ask for higher wages and take risks working for themselves for the chance at a better payday. With regard to providers, I think it’s a different animal. They are independent contractors that by and large provide a highly desirable product whose utility may transcend economic conditions broadly. Nothing beats 1:1 contact with another person, especially if intimacy is desired and likely. They can largely increase their rates to whatever the market can bear because they largely understand their worth and are confident in asserting it.

I think about this often when hiring. The provider has to deal with all sorts of people. I just deal with him (and only if I like his look). That thought process alone quiets my urge to bargain hunt and simply pay the man his rate or politely move on.

It offers a cold, one-sided transaction that demands significant financial commitment while promising nothing beyond simply sharing proximity with this Adonis. That might be catnip for true cash slaves, but for a $4k monthly minimum spend, I’d expect more variety, reciprocity, and at least the illusion of mutual enjoyment. I suspect he believes this blunt, high-value positioning will land him a sugar daddy. In my opinion, the opposite is true. Thank goodness for the is forum! I know most providers try to earn a living, but this provider definitely makes his derision of gay men show. The counting the money at the end was definitely the icing on the cake… the demanding of a tip, the cherry on top. Providers like him see us as walking, talking wallets that empty ourselves on a hair trigger on the slightest attention from a pretty young man.

I see what you are saying, however I’m torn…The kind of provider that would judge paying, respectful clients over looks would be the kind of person to thoughtlessly take your “rejected” pic and mercilessly mock you online with it. I’m paying a premium in this hobby NOT to have a petty, judgmental, masochistic Grindr experience. In my view, the fee delivered to the provider is simply a quid pro quo between a SW professional and a client he wouldn’t otherwise date… and I’m ok with that. If times are truly changing, I will do what it takes to have the experience I desire… patience, generosity, and kindness have always worked for me and go a long way.

This sales tactic is timeless because it works. By waiting until plans are finalized and alternatives are limited, he ensures most people will pay up. Deposits are a little less sketchy in my view if they are reasonable and appear to cover travel expenses with a small premium to put skin in the game.

I’m thinking rejecting people is part of his “thing” otherwise it would be smarter/kinder to put at least a general “type” he digs into his profile to avoid unnecessary interaction with an unlikely date. I agree, plenty of rejections can happen for free elsewhere. Something especially stings if one is rejected while guaranteeing to make it worth his while, but maybe that’s finally the point no?
