  1. The Globe & Mail, Canada’s equivalent of the NYTimes, printed an obituary today, beside one of Stella Tennant, the British aristocrat who became a world leading model, of Michael Alig. The page on which it is printed is reserved for world celebrities. Alig’s obit said he was known in New York nightlife circles as a creative, canny promoter and as a pioneer of visual spectacle long before he became infamous. Ms. Tennant died recently at the age of 50 and cause of death has not been revealed, just that it was not considered suspicious. The juxtaposition of two obituaries such as these was no accident in my view. The contrast and similarities between their more or less contemporaneous lives is striking. Her glam and glitz was displayed on the fashion runways of designers like Yves St. Laurent and the covers of Vogue. His was on display in the world famous nightclubs like Limelight, where the six foot model would have fit right in in one of her male tuxedo outfits.
  2. I agree that if things work out that way, at least initially when reopening happens, I would not be interested in going into the clubs. At least with escort encounters, it’s only one person you are interacting with although they in turn are meeting others too. Still, if they are taking precautions generally in their daily life, th3 odds are better in terms of not exposing oneself to too many people.
  3. That's a pretty good summary. It would convince me. Unfortunately he's not in my neck of the woods.
  4. This is good advice. If you choose to make a reply on RM it is always best to take the high road. Potential clients will see it as a classy respectful move. You can still leave the message that the review is bogus, using nice words.
  5. That makes sense. I can see how salop drifted into slut by the French Creole speakers. I used to talk with the Haitians who worked as checkout clerks in Miami supermarkets and as I speak French I could understand about half of what they were saying, so I got the drift. I expect they understood me completely as French is spoken in Haiti by everyone and the better educated speak a nice French. I once hooked up with a nice Haitian who was living in Montreal some 30 years ago. He was divine but not a slut. I was the slut. LOL
  6. The news here in Canada's largest province is not great either. Yesterday was the largest number of new cases since the pandemic started at about 3000. The vaccination rollout is anything but smooth and only a tiny number of people have been vaccinated. More people are getting sick on a daily basis than are been vaccinated so we are so far losing the race against the virus. Israel seems to be doing a much better job. With a population much less than Ontario, they have vaccinated over a quarter million people by Dec 27 to our 13,000, both having started around the same time. It really sucks.
  7. In two cases my reviews of providers were removed, one at my instigation and the other at the provider's. In both cases my reviews were only qualified by observations I made that reflected some shortcomings and were otherwise positive about what I found enjoyable. The two providers only wanted 5 star unqualified stellar reviews.
  8. I saw that bad review and even though I don’t know you I know of your reputation and participation on this forum. I immediately thought it was a bogus review. You have many fine reviews that back that up. Good luck in getting it removed but RM’s policies and practices sometimes lead to frustrating results.
  9. He certainly goes to the gym a lot.
  10. That’s sad news about Jessie. I contacted him about a year and a half ago to see if he ever travelled but he told me not at that time. He’s done some hot videos with a couple of escorts I have been with and he seemed as hot as they were. I hope his cancer goes into remission.
  11. In Europe the French speaking gays use the term “salop”.
  12. About 30 years ago I had a regular provider for the better part of a year with whom I was very happy. He was tall, blond, muscular and was a university student, almost finishing his studies. I can’t remember how I met him but we just clicked. I don’t even know how many clients he had but I think he just had mostly regulars like myself. He wasn’t inexpensive, in fact we started at $150 per hour and after several months he dropped it to $100, at his initiative. Well, after he graduated he met a young doctor, who happened to be my family doctor. He was gay and had a large gay practice. My provider dropped me as a client and I suppose his other clients too but I never knew any of his other clients. Some time later, I went to Gay Pride in Montreal and who should come out of a building on the Main Street in the Gay Village, just as I was walking by, was this couple. The doctor turned around to say hi to me and his new boyfriend, standing behind him, signalled me with his index finger pressed to his lips. So when the doctor turned around to introduce me to his new beaux, I played along and feigned ignorance of who he was. I remained on friendly terms with both and never revealed my relationship with the escort.
  13. Having watched the entire 2 hour plus doc on him, I beg to differ. As pointed out in the film, before the age of the Internet and cell-phones, Alig would mimeograph 10000 flyers for a party event and see that they got distributed to those who would attend. He wasn’t a parasite but rather the organizer and promoter of huge events. He was appreciated by the owners of the big clubs so much so that he was given the operation of one of them, (Tunnel, I believe) which was hugely successful. He worked hard to achieve this outcome. He attended meetings with owners and promoters on a regular basis. He was creative and had ideas to contribute to the success of these 5 clubs. All of this is shown in the documentary, which was a very professional production. One can live during an era and think they know what is going on behind the scenes but it takes a retrospective with dozens of people who were there to comment from their perspectives. The film maker then puts together a story which has some semblance to the truth. I think this doc put out a pretty convincing story. But that’s just me.
  14. Did Leigh Bowery have a Hollywood film made about him? With a household name portraying him. Frankly, it may be too soon to assess Alig’s importance in pop culture and whether he will be seen in the same light 25 years from now. All artists are influenced to some degree by those who preceded them, even if only in reaction to them. History will finally judge whether they are seminal creators or not.
  15. Now that I’m old and basically don’t give AF, I would have no problem stopping to talk, even if I had someone else with me. I meet lots of people of all ages so I could always play it naturally. There was a time, however, before I started hiring, when I had to keep my private life and public life separate. Once I was with my boss in a limo going to a hotel luncheon affair and we were sitting in lunch time traffic. I was briefing him on the business we were to conduct with a briefing book in my lap. Suddenly from my left field of vision I saw the cute trick I had picked up the previous evening and taken home. He was about 23, Italian and cute as hell. He also liked to get fisted, which I obliged him, along with topping him even though I am usually the bottom. Anyway, it was summer, and this free spirit walked in front of our car and glanced through the windshield as he crossed the street. I quickly raised the book in front of my face as if to examine some detail so that he would not see me and wave. What spurred me was his outfit. It was a hot summer day and he had on this tiny tank top stretched over his gorgeous torso, a ring in one ear and nifty cutoffs. The moment passed quickly and I breathed a sigh of relief. I would have had a hard time explaining him to my boss.
  16. I always thought the Like was for appreciating the content of the post, not the poster himself.
  17. I only read this thread today and probably about 80 percent of the posts. Enough to get the drift of the incident and the reactions of others. The one cardinal thing to keep in mind at all times in hiring is that after all is said and done, the fees are based on the time spent with the escort. Some escorts even emphasize we are only paying them for their time and that whatever happens during that time is between two consenting adults. The other thing I always do whether at home or when travelling is to have a few hundred extra so that if things go overtime, which can happen if I am having a good time, then there is no issue about how to pay the fee. The last thing I want to do is get out of bed and go looking for an ATM in the middle of the night.
  18. Doesn’t Smirnoff have the better pedigree? As in its Russian roots.
  19. The Germans and Swiss both produce superior products over a whole range of goodS. But they are priced accordingly. But they last a very long time so you come out better on the bargain. That’s called value.
  20. Here in Ontario Absolut and Smirnoff are priced competitively, and sometimes one goes on sale and then the other sometime later. I consider them equal and will buy whichever is cheaper. Usually only by a dollar.
  21. Actually, if you live alone and wake up in the middle of the night, there may not be the real thing anywhere near.
  22. She picked up on the style he had inspired in his followers and took it to her fan base.
  23. Yes I guess we do take different things from this saga. I don’t recall he or anyone else say that he was a drug dealer. Angel was his dealer at the time of the murder. I had a friend in Montreal, an older lady who was an antique dealer. She was born and raised in New York and helped her father in his antique business in Manhattan. One day she took an article to Warhol’s Factory to deliver it to him. He invited her in and she saw a bunch of his acolytes lying around stoned on drugs in the middle of the day. That was New York. Another time I visited a friend in Manhattan during the 80s and was going to stay with him. When I got in from the airport, he had a gathering of friends sitting around a big coffee table in the living room. They were all snorting coke. He was an executive with one of the large TV networks. That was New York. Another time I visited with my then boyfriend and we went to a friend’s apartment overlooking the East River. He had a senior job at the UN, working in the Secretary General’s office. He and his several friends all took drugs before we set off for The Saint. I satisfied myself with a vodka tonic, as I always do in these situations since I don’t take drugs. I always accepted that these things were par for the course for many people living in the pressure cooker that is New York City. I doubt it has changed much from when I used to visit it more often.
  24. I liked that he kisses.
  25. I agree with Prof Corona of the Fashion Institute of Technology who said in the article that Alig is the bridge between Andy Warhol, who died in 1987, and Lady Gaga, as fashion icons who created a New York life style based on a group of society misfits. It is all about glam and glitz. That life style has seeped into society at large, watered down, yes, but still recognizable. Today we even have a makeup place in our small town called Glitz, and young people flock to it to get made up. Two weeks ago, I had never heard of Alig. But now I can see his place in the evolution of pop culture.
