  1. The little tube inside the bottle is a nice touch but it should be red.
  2. I do like a nice aspiration.
  3. True, but Uber and Lyft can handle that. Or you could walk to lunch.

  5. rvwsnd, you make me homesick. And you didn't even touch on food! Chicago is a fantastic place to put on the feedbag!
  6. When I first moved to CA I did not own a car and biked to work every day for 8 months. My butt never looked better. I'd be happy to do it today except my commute then was 2 miles and is now 49 miles (longer on surface streets I'd use on a bike). Taking cars off the road is a good thing. Far better than forever building more and wider roads (and not maintaining them).
  7. After you throw him out, send him over to my place.
  8. Exactly. I always said the same thing living in the DC area. In fact, you'd get entirely different language differences going north, south, or west.
  9. Somehow I expected to hear from you in this thread. There are many regional dialects of Spanish. The spaniards always have adjustments to make in latin America because of the Castillan influence on their own language, etc. But that's not unique to Spanish! Look at what Americans have done to the mother tongue -- even in-country. A coworker grew up in the USSR but has lived in the US (legally, a citizen now) since before the wall came down. (And boy is it fun watching HER opinions on current events in Russia!) English is still very much a second language for her and she has major problems any time she travels in the deep south, for example.
  10. Spanish always came easily to me, partly because my uncle married a daughter of Mexican immigrants. I was surrounded by spanish speakers from a young age. When I was in college I toured Mexico and Guatemala with a band. In central and northern Mexico my Spanish was fluent. I could walk around and chat with locals. People in the band followed me around through marketplaces because I could communicate and they couldn't. When we got into Guatemala I couldn't understand a fucking word. The dialect and accent changed just enough that I couldn't mentally map it. Given time it probably would have snapped in place, but with only a couple of days -- no way. I had a job (communicating with customers in latin america) for a short while after that, and then it fell into disuse. It does tend to snap back in blotchy patches as needed, but it's definitely a former skill these days.
  11. I remember taking one. I remember ignoring it, and I can't remember what it said. At that point, my mind was TOTALLY made up. I was going to be a high school band director. (I have never been a high school band director, of course.) Those tests are useful for possibly steering kids who have no idea what they want to do in life. For kids who have an idea, or a plan, or a drive, they're useless.
  12. LOTS of those. Like "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas":
  13. He was a regular guest on "Morning Joe" because he was the anchor of "Way Too Early", which comes before MJ. Before "Way Too Early" he hosted the news hour currently hosted by (I think) Tamron Hall. He's also one of the backup anchors for "Today" on the weekends (and even occasionally during the week). He's been a stalwart at NBC News for a number of years. During major news stories (the Baltimore riots -- he's from there, major tornadoes, etc.) he's often sent into the field to report from the scene.
  14. You mean his husband? (Gavin Newsome, no less, presided at the wedding!)
  15. Sorry, typo. Prince starts at 7500. Peer just lasts that long. (The upper bound is what's wrong.)
  16. Prince starts at 7000. The list is wrong.

  18. You're gonna need a bigger boat.
  19. I'll join the chorus to call in the professionals. Difficulty swallowing IS one of the "seven warning signs" of cancer that they used to warn about, but it can also be caused my many other things. You may just have a latent case of strep throat. Don't make your condition worse by worrying about it until a doctor gives you something to worry about, but get your butt to the doctor so he can do his job. It actually could be nothing to worry about. Allow yourself to admit it might be nothing.
  20. I must have missed the memo appointing you moderator.
  21. I vote for asses. Firm, supple, fleshy, edible asses.
  22. They'll definitely go back up, fast and hard. (Something we'd normally like.) But I don't think we've hit bottom yet. From what I've read we'll likely see these low prices for a nice (and welcome) while. Then, they'll slam back up suddenly and whoever is in the White House will take the blame even though they had nothing to do with it.
  23. I paid $2.28 tonight at a Costco in Ventura County, CA.
  24. There was a comedian a few years back who did a whole routine around language oddities: Why do you park on a driveway but drive on a parkway? etc.
