For me this was a swing and a miss. I've read that some of the people involved with the film felt in retrospect that it was a mistake to market it as a "history lesson" film, but that feels like a pretty accurate representation of how it came off to me: "after school special"-type messaging/subtext in an ostensible romantic comedy. Without sugarcoating it, the plot, writing, and acting of the rom-com part itself really didn't feel much different from some of the low-budget direct-to-video gay movies from the 1990s. I'm kind of surprised that it's apparently a critical darling - like, did we see the same movie?
That said, I was happy to support the box office of a big studio-funded film like this, which I think really was a heartfelt effort by Eichner and the rest to produce something good. I appreciate the attempt even if it missed the mark for me, and I hope it doesn't slow opportunities for more big studio-funded LGBT films in the future.
Also, I was listening to a fairly liberal-minded, young, straight woman talk about it, and she thought the sex scenes were egregious. Which was a wake-up call as to how inundated I am in my gay universe because - well, of course I didn't bat an eyelash at the content - but I really didn't realize how distasteful it might come off to even generally open-minded people.

And to take it to the less wholesome, as I am wont to do:  wow, the thought of gentle giant Juan Martin having his way with Fed... I like it. 😈

I expect that Federer made his announcement that he will play his last time at the Laver Cup and then retire is mostly to promote the Laver Cup tournament, which he was instrumental in creating, but it has never really been considered important without his influence, and I wonder how long it will continue without him. If he had decided to play his final time at the US Open, along with Serena, it would have been even more of a celebrity circus than it was, but it would have divided the spotlight too much. It will be interesting to see what kind of competitive condition he is actually in.

As much as Roger wanted to come back (multiple surgeries, endless rehab), I pretty much knew this was coming when the news came out that fluid was accumulating in his knee, always a horrible sign.  I wanted Roger to have a proper farewell, whether it was in his hometown tournament Basel or Wimbledon next year like Serena did this year.  He'll compete in Laver Cup, but I don't take that event seriously.
No one sells tickets or boosts ratings like Roger Federer.  Outside of Spain and Serbia, Roger plays with home court advantage at every tournament around the globe.  The sport will sorely miss him.

Federer, who won 20 Grand Slam singles titles, said injuries and surgeries had taken their toll on his body. His final competitive matches will be next week in London...
He said he would continue to play tennis in the future, but that he would no longer compete on the ATP Tour or in Grand Slam championships like Wimbledon and the U.S. Open that he once dominated.
The past three years have presented me with challenges in the form of injuries and surgeries,” he said in a video on Twitter. “I’ve worked hard to return to full competitive form, but I also know my body’s capacities and limits, and its message to me lately has been clear.”

Yesterday afternoon, I installed the latest update of the IPB software on the site.  Before I make any changes here, I make them first on a test board to make sure everything works as expected.  On the test board, the upgrade went very smoothly without problems.  When I applied them here, I encountered a number of errors.
Ultimately I had to roll the site back to a backup from yesterday right before the upgrade started.  As a result, there may be some posts and PMs lost from yesterday afternoon/evening.  After restoring the site, there were a number of kinks such as the post editor not working correctly and images not displaying properly.
The post editor is restored and I've fixed most of the image issues in the default theme.  I'm still working on fixing other themes and should have them corrected in the next couple of hours.  If you selected a custom theme, you'll need to select it again.  The restore set everyone back to the default theme.
My apologies for the problems from last night and earlier today.   If you continue to see problems, let me know.

Congrats to Carlitos! Would love for Alcaraz to take the reins and usher in a new era of men's tennis! And he's really still barely more than a kid. Will be interesting to see how he develops - both in his tennis and just physically.

I've long thought Richard was adorable. That he seems so willing to bend over for all the tour alphas makes him even more so.
Ruud v Barrettini is an easy choice for me: I'll take the Italian sausage.
Kyrgios will be a big hurdle for Medvedev to overcome. Nick seems to have had his number in their priors. They're in a first set tiebreak right now.

The first two sets were certainly a spanking, but the above is not the final score: Gasquet improved in each set, and managed to win five games in the third set. Nadal's career record against Gasquet is now 18-0. They are almost exactly the same age (36), and have been been playing one another for a long time. Perhaps Gasquet enjoys being spanked.

I've been seeing a therapist monthly for about 7 years now.  It's helped tremendously.  I went from being depressed and anxious most of the time each and every day, to only minutes a day a few days each week.  He helped identify what makes me happy and establish a routine, and also what triggers me and how to cope.  When I bring up new anxieties, he reminds me what I have done to successfully cope with similar situations in the past.
This was the 3rd therapist I tried.  While the previous 2 weren't bad, I recommend shopping around until you find someone that works for you.
