When I quit smoking, many years ago, I needed a lot of help.  One piece that stuck with me was to remind myself, during urges, "what do you really want?" I wanted to be a non-smoker.
That might sound glib to many, but I found it helpful. Sounds like you outlined your goals, "what you really want."
If you find yourself wanting a snack, perhaps you can fill the void with a tall glass of water.
If you are able, keep moving.   Perhaps get a pair of walking shoes and take walks.

A memorial for Lucky was held yesterday at a church in Palm Springs. Unfortunately, it was the hottest day of the year (117 degrees at the time of the service), and there were not many people present--another old friend of his and I were almost the only non-family members, and we were both asked to speak about our experience with him, which we did relatively truthfully (we did not discuss the primary subject matter of this website). One of the most positive aspects of the memorial was the fact that everyone present knew and openly acknowledged Lucky's sexual orientation in a very positive way (e.g., his nieces and nephews all refer to his partner as "Uncle"). I was moved by the love and admiration that his family members obviously felt for him. He was my best friend in Palm Springs for many years, and I will truly miss him.

DL was a great pastime for pointless bitchery.  It had in-depth coverage on everything from politics to Hollywood gossip to sexy VPL.  If you could ignore the lunatics and trolls it was super fun daily reading.

After 31 Years, it appears that DataLounge.com has quietly come to an end.  Beginning in 1995 DataLounge was the literal one and only Gay themed message board from those early, carefree days when the Internet was in its infancy.  Back then it was many people’s first foray into the internet and gay themed content.  At times, funny, gossipy, informative, and bitchy as well as caustic in some cases.  It was controversial at times but never boring.
In a sign that the Internet is always evolving, looks like DataLounge became obsolete in the social media age. Twitter X certainly eclipsed its function years ago.  More than anything else DataLounge was an archive of the early Gay Internet.

"Lucky" has been a regular poster here since the days of Hooboy and Daddy, both of whom he knew personally. When he moved to Palm Springs 22 years ago, he created the "Palm Springs Weekend," an opportunity for members of this website to get together and socialize. The first weekend consisted of a dinner at a local restaurant, followed by a party the next day; he organized and hosted both days. It became an annual event, as more and more site members who became residents or visitors in Palm Springs got involved in the activities. Now it is a regular part of this website's calendar, and site members come from all over the country and world every year to participate in the activities organized by many members.
Unfortunately, in recent years "Lucky" has suffered an onslaught of medical problems. I am sorry to have to report that I was called to the hospital yesterday, where he died in the late afternoon in the arms of his loving partner and his always supportive family members. Farewell, my longtime dear friend--my life here in Palm Springs will be emptier without you.
