I didn't understand that either! The only sex scene was the first encounter, and that was doggy -- hard to "angle" that wrong as long as one is behind the one on his hands and knees...? If anything, it wasn't enough hawk tuah to be believably sufficient for lubrication.

A bit of background on now 2-time US Open champion Carlos Alcaraz:  he has 3 brothers.  The oldest Álvaro, the amateur barber who travels with him full-time, also wanted to be a professional tennis player but lacked the talent.  Carlitos learned how to play from his dad, who is or at least was a tennis teaching pro.  Carlos Sr. tried to become a pro player as well but only got to #963, maybe because of lack of talent, undoubtedly at least in part due to lack of resources.  It costs a boatload to pay for proper coaching/training plus the costs of travel and other expenses to play the juniors, Futures, Challengers, funds the dad simply didn’t have, nor could he have gotten from the Spanish Tennis Federation given his low national ranking (just #40 in Spain).
Carlos Jr. (he prefers to be called either Carlitos or Charlie to avoid confusion with his dad) started at Juan Carlos Ferrero’s academy at 15, thanks to a well-to-do businessman from Carlitos’s small town who set up an “audition.”  JCF instantly saw Carlitos’s potential and took him in, I’m assuming on scholarship  because a tennis pro with 4 kids is in no position to pay for a tennis academy (which usually costs $8000+ per month plus travel expenses).
JCF was so convinced of Carlitos’s potential that he turned down a hell of an offer to coach him.  When Darren Cahill was leaving his position as coach of Simona Halep, Cahill approached JCF to see if he was interested in taking over.  Mind you, given that Halep was #1 at the time and that the coach usually gets 10% of the player’s prize money on top of a base salary (in other words, when you see the coach rooting like crazy for his player, that passionate encouragement also has a financial component), the position of Halep’s coach would have been very lucrative for JCF.  But he turned Cahill down because he had a 15yo who was “really good” and wanted to focus on him.  The rest, as they say, is history.

Oops, I misread the article.  It's the author of the original short story Brokeback Mountain which is a woman who consulted her gay male friends, not the author of the article.

My hometown girl Jessica Pegula played so good last night. I so thought she was gonna win that semifinal last night. The way she stormed back and steamrolled Sabalenka in the first set I thought was gonna carry over but alas not to be.

I lived and worked in the SF Bay Area for most of my adult life, so my network of friends is basically there.  After retiring, I moved to Denver as that is where what little family I have is located.  Other than family, I did not know a single person here.  I decided to get involved in the local senior center, and have made quite a few new friends there.  I volunteer a couple of days each week for a few hours, sign up for various bus trips of interest, attend informative classes, and play a variety of games.  It keeps me both social and active.  There is also a gay community center in Denver that offers a variety of activities for seniors.  I have also met a few persons that way as well.  The senior center is 5-6 minutes from my house, so much more convenient for me to participate there several times a week, meet people for lunch or dinner, or just to hang out at the park and engage in conversation.  The gay community center is about 45 minutes by car, so not nearly as convenient.

I packed up and move across country, single and with only a few social connectiona where I now live.  It has been 6 months and in that time I have made a few acquaintances who may become friends.  Most of these have beenat the gym I attend which has a predominantly gay clientele.  The people have been very friendly, but ultimately, they all have their own circle of friends and so for the most part, I think I will meet people who are open to the idea of adding to their social group or men in the same situation as I am.  I try to be outgoing and strike up converations wherever I go.  When I started at the gym, I wore a multicolored fedora, not only because I looked damned good in it, but it also gave people something by which they could recognize me and something which might spark a conversation,   I had good results with that.  The people at the bank and the grocery store recognized me by the second or third visit and the people. At the gym several people came up to me and said they had noticed my efforts, most because of the hat but one said no it was not the hat but the belly.  They had been overweight and lost weight by going to the gym and he wanted to encourage me to keep up the work.  So my advice is either join a gym, wear a brightly colored hat, or be noticeably obese.  I chose all three.
You have to recall that not everyone is looking for friends and their is no hanky code to identify who is and who is not.

If you are a reader, you may look around for a book group.  About 6-8 of us meet more or less monthly in the homes of each other for a meal and discussion; yes, we actually discuss the books, but we also discuss life as it unfolds for each of us; I find myself being energized after our gatherings.  And, we are multi-generational gay men, ranging from late 30s or early 40s to late 70s; the younger guys pick books that I would have never read on my own, but it stretches my mind a bit and I find it delightful.
This group was formed by invitation; a couple of us recruited guys we thought might be interested, and it has been ongoing for several years now; I suspect a local library or LGBTQ+ community center may know or even sponsor a group.

    I'm approaching a mid-40s retirement.
I plan to circle the globe on a cruise in my 1st year of retirement, then live a few months in a big city apartment near a subway station (I've only experienced suburbs my entire life).  Having that very specific goal has kept me focused (I've had that goal since 2015).
I'm leaning towards moving to Florida for winters when I retire, because I look forward to my annual Ft Lauderdale trips more than any other.
I plan to work seasonal summer jobs with youth, because that brings me joy (camp counselor, etc.).
I plan to work with theater somehow, perhaps on the board of a non-profit local theater, etc., because theater also brings me joy
What helped me the most was to picture people I know who are already in retirement (my parents, and friends I worked with), and decide what I want to do differently or the same as they did.

    Greetings folks...
As you might have noticed, this site has been offline since around mid-day Tuesday.   Our prior hosting provider decided that they are unable to continue hosting our website and had ended service to us.  Unfortunately they did not provide any notification to me about this decision and I was forced to move the site to a new server without any sort of heads up.  This includes arranging for the new hosting company, configuring the new server to meet the technical requirements, getting a copy of our current data, restoring that data (over 300GB of files), recovering the database (over 18.5 million records in that database taking up 11GB of space for the DB alone), and reconfiguring the software itself to run in the new environment.
While migrating there was also some technical issues that I ran into that required me to coordinate with Invision's technical support team.  So that back and forth added additional time to the mix as well.
And to pile on further… all of this occurred while I'm traveling for my day job. So I've been doing this while in a hotel in between doing my day job on the road.
There are most likely several other things that will need to be fixed still and I'm working through them.  For example, email may only be partially working.  I still need to setup things like SPF and DKIM for the new server so our emails don't flag as spam.  There are other settings that might need to be redone to work in the new server as well that I'm not thinking about yet.  (As you might have imagined, I've not had much sleep during this whole process.)
But anyway... you get the idea.  No... we're not going anywhere!  This was a minor setback but we'll continue to move forward.  Thank you all for your understanding and support!
    Rob

I'm late to the game here, but I don't get what's so "saucy" about the photo. Maybe I'm desensitized by seeing people far more scantily clad and suggestive in photos on social media and in porn, but this seems... tame? I don't think there's even anything distasteful about it - they look cute!
As for the extravagant nuptials, hey, if that's what floats their boat, then why not? They can certainly afford it.

I really enjoyed Looking but wasn't a fan of this one. It's just not how I experience grief and it came across to me as more stylized than authentic. But to each his own! And happy to support an earnest effort from Andrew Haigh (and my local art theater!) anyway.

I just watched Looking on HBO.  They streamed it again for Pride.
I like how S1 starts and S2 ends.  Richie flirts with Patrick on the bus (after Patrick just had anonymous sex); Richie gives Patrick a haircut (after Patrick dumps Kevin) as the camera pans out from the shop.
    They aren't streaming the movie.
I see an old thread.  A lot of people didn't care for Looking.  It worked for me.

I believe I may have been the one who told you to start one. I did see this thread when it first went up and mulled it over, but as the esteemed @BenjaminNicholas noted (esteemed among his many other amazing qualities) it can be a triggering topic. I’m not exactly eager—now or yesterday—to revisit what it was like to be mercilessly beaten by my father after coming out, or what it felt like to be kicked out of my home.  Substance matters, absolutely—but so does protecting the parts of ourselves that took the longest to heal.
