A mixed bag which is not a change. Still get time wasters. Still get great clients. Still get not so good clients. Still get okay clients. Still get scared clients. Still get everything in between. Business was slow during the pandemic pre-vaccination in 2020. Then there was an uptick in the spring of 2021. Now business seems to return to normal levels or close to it. I would say the vitality and profitability of the industry correlates with the travel and hospitality industries (except us escorts didn't get the massive bailouts corporations did and we couldn't get unemployment for our type of work). During the height of the pandemic in 2020, things were very rough financially and business was slow or non-existent. Now business seems to be very close to pre-covid levels. Like many restaurants and hotels, business for an escort seems to be going fine now with the usual challenges and difficulties we had prior to covid. Vaccinated and kissing, yes.

I agree.   On both clients and providers part, discretion is paramount.  It's easy enough to block out portions of ones passport to ensure privacy.  To those who might find censoring portions of ones vaccine passport suspicious, I'd counter most clients don't want their full names out there either --- and the truth is, one could easily show a fake (or a friends) passport if they really want to.  If you think about it, censoring your own passport is MORE effort than showing a fake/friends passport w/o alterations.

This would depend is this is a massage or escort appointment, and the country where legality issues arise.
For massages always after, often I've paid in a reception area, or the persons home / living area after I got dressed etc.
For escort appointments, I have noticed the best ones ( i hire worldwide ) almost never ask, I am usually the one that brings it up  Subtle hints like "well I had a nice time' coupled with getting dressed etc. is sufficient. If you had to be slightly more aggressive I would say, "I think our time is up dear, unless of course you want to play some more" - or something to that effect.  in the US, its always payment for time / donation - thus asking is a grey area, and for some people  may be slightly vulgar. In some ways , I would have liked to believe the encounter was real, instead of a paid for fantasy, so asking is perhaps too blunt and ruins the experience. Keep me believing it was real till the end.   Other faux pas would be counting cash in front of me ( I don't mind , but that universally rude I think) , and overly aggressive upsells after the appointment .
Also I have encounted a guy ( in Brazil)  who was very conflicted about the profession and had issues even touching the money ( he has since retired, but is only doing past clients ) and gone back full time to his main job , I had to convince him to take it. That said some of the lousy and might I add expensive London boys I have had were not shy about saying "bank transfer" immediately after i was done. i will not be inclined to hire them again.  ( the encounter was bad too)  then proceeded to try to upsell me on 3 ways with their friends.  Its always the bad ones that ask so directly in my experience.

There is a myriad of factors as to why there is such a short retention rate in the business and why most escorts last two years or less. Emotional exhaustion from difficult clients is up there as a leading factor. Sure, there are other things at play like not being good at it, jealous partners, drugs, the stigma of the work ect. There is no single factor. However, if you think it helps to achieve a longer retention rate by bringing up this or that complaint from several years ago under a different name where only a single-sided narrative is given and the escort was not there to respond, then I would disagree. That hurts what is already a poor retention rate and it erodes the quality of providers to chose from in the long term. I will attest as someone who has done it a long time, that burn out is often mentioned to me as to why this or that person left the biz. Not good, and this site could either lessen that problem or worsen it depending on the norms it establishes and which course it chooses. Moderators taking a proactive approach in stamping out vitriolic remarks and toxic conduct in the deli is a positive development in the right direction. Disabling comments after multiple years of inaction of a thread is another. How far back are we are to track name changes poses questions.

I've never refused payment completely but I have insisted discounted rates or some amount of money off if something doesn't go right and if the experience isn't optimal (if I'm way late, need to reschedule at the last minute, not at my best performance). It makes for smart business, reduces the risk of a bad review and helps develop regulars. I find it to be a similarly good gesture on the other end when a client pays a partial amount for canceling at the last minute, if they pay a tip or they compensate for something that goes wrong on their end. Good clients make good escorts and vice versa.  

I've had it go the other way. An escort I saw frequently refused payment once because he felt he was unable on that day to offer his usual quality experience. I suggested that a bad day with him was better than a good day with anyone else but he still refused to take the money.

Sadly he's retired. As classy as they come.

After a session recently with a regular client we were chatting for a while afterwards. I was dressed and almost out the door and he said “are you ok with a bank transfer?”. I’d genuinely forgotten because I was distracted by the chat etc. He has my bank details so I’ve no doubt he’d have sent the payment anyway even if we’d both forgotten. It’s nice when the relationship is so natural that payment is almost an afterthought.

Its funny - the escorts that are not that good almost never forget payment  but for the ones that are fantastic , payment is almost an after thought ( I have to remind them)

May I gently point out that there is No Evidence that you broke any law. Just your word against his. His word will be suspect because there is plenty of evidence that he broke the law. If multiple victims are willing to make dispositions he will return to jail.

Man's Country also closed. There seems to be few places remaining that I know of besides Steamworks and a place called RAM on halsted that I'm not even sure still exists. I don't why one would chose RAM over Steamworks though. There's also the basement of Jackhammer and the bar Touche in Andersonville, but both are specifically oriented towards kink and bdsm. Sometimes rarely there's cruising outside at the Montrose Bird Sanctuary, but that seems to be of a different era as well. Steamworks is a great facility but I'm always worried its days are numbered. Gentrification and sky rocketing property values are buying up these places and turning them into high end apartments. There's been attacks on Steamworks in the past by neighboring residents because they see it as a place for drugs. There's been overdoses in years past. SW seems to do a thorough job of keeping drugs out and screening people before they come in, but they can't be 100% effective 100% of the time. So every time there's an overdose, clueless often straight Lakeview yuppies see SW as some awful place in the neighborhood that needs to be cleaned out. I don't think they realize how much the community would come out to rally and defend the place. However, we would be virtually powerless if the owners decide to sell and the place gets converted to another bland condo building. In the era of hook up apps and rising property values, these places have become an endangered species. Support your local bathhouses. 

The art of conversation is what has has really provided for me the 9 years I've escorted. Without it, I would've made significantly less and lasted significantly shorter. I once thought that much of the information I retained in the humanities was useless, then I figured out I could put it to use with this job among educated men who enjoy interesting discussion. Intellect and conversation can really pick out the naturals in this line of work. Unfortunately, there are duds who can't do it if their life depended on it. I'm sure they're fine at sex though. Some clients prefer just that in an escort. They want sex, nothing else. But I have to say conversation is what has paid me with travel around the world and a nice accumulation of overnights among a great set of regulars. Getting paid to have engaging conversations with intelligent clients is something I love and I do wish it was a socially respected career choice. Alas though, we're not there yet.    

I've also had situations where both the client and myself both forget about payment until after they or I leave lol. Happens quite a bit with me actually as I'm pretty scattered minded. Such clients though always have come through, paid and apologized. After good sex or good long conversation, it seems pretty natural to forget the transactional aspect of the arrangement. 

It's good that the moderators have taken such a proactive approach to stamping this out. Some of the vitriolic and toxic commentary in the deli is probably why few providers come on here. Such remarks also lessen the credibility of this site. It runs the risk of looking like a place where the worst among clients can come, complain and pile on someone. It is one thing to raise objections or criticisms of a provider, entirely different when it is debased to personal insults and unsubstantiated claims attacking that provider's character. Just my opinion as a longtime provider who was on the receiving end of such behavior in the past years ago and wasn't here to respond.
