I just don’t get the type of person to buy fake followers and then spend the time in illustrator making a graphic celebrating the inflated follower count.

It just seems really, really insecure.

And I only bring any of it up, because I think when he pops into threads and autofellates himself about his solid business and clientele, it is maybe not based in reality, or at least isn’t as rosy as he presents. People come here to learn to do better and get a lay of the land, but let’s just be real with each other.

Perhaps because you buy fake twitter followers, likes, retweets, and even make fake ass graphics celebrating your fake ass Twitter follower milestones.

You (like a generous number of clients) can read but can not comprehend. I do not “need” my transportation paid for by the client. As a method of filtering who is a fraud and who is not, an Uber is requested if the client is out of the way (i.e. Manhattan to Long Island or Manhattan to Suffolk County...if you are familiar with the city at all). And at the request of the client, i’ll gladly deduct that from my rate (a generous offer) and the flakes refuse...because there was no intention of this arrangement actually occurring. Real clients do not mind. At all. If you want to bring dick to you that is not conveniently located near you, unfortunately you have to pay. Have you ever used Seamless? There’s a delivery minimum, correct?

A number of years ago I stopped hiring escorts, with the exception of TB of course ;) and KJ (who was nothing but a gentleman to me), and every time I see a post like this, I'm reminded of why. Thanks to places like Johnson's and guys like Matt, and the more and more frequent trips to Stock and Campus, I've alleviated the drama...

It has now gotten to the point where if a client is not walking distance or a quick train or cab ride, an Uber must be provided (which I do not feel is an unreasonable request). Serious clients move forward, the flakes stop responding.

I know that the OP asked that this stick to clients and not escorts, but this made me chuckle and compelled me to respond.

Tuesday I made arrangements with a guy in my town. I've had some bad luck hiring new escorts lately, but figured I might break my unlucky streak as I'd once hired this guy's partner and had an amazing time. He lives about 3 miles from my place, but said that since I was a first-time client, I'd need to send him an Uber to weed out flakes. I told him fine, and I usually offer an Uber anyway. He explained some more that he finds this reduces the number of flakes he gets. OK by me. Sent him a text immediately after our call (around noon) to tell him where I was staying and told him to send me time and address for the Uber.

**crickets**

Texted him again a half-hour before our scheduled appointment to ask if he was ready for the Uber and where I should send it.

**more crickets**

About 15 minutes after our agreed-on start time, I sent him a (very polite) text telling him I was making other plans. Never heard a word back.

It was my fourth no-show in about four years of hiring, which I figure is a pretty good batting average. But, I always get worried that something might have happened to the guy. First no-show I ever had, the guy blew out his knee in dance class that afternoon and slept through the appointment in a pharmaceutical haze. He actually sent me pics of his swollen knee and the prescription painkiller bottle filled that day :) So, I was a tiny bit concerned. However, Uber dude checked his RM account an hour after our start time and an hour later his "Available Now" light was back on.

The no-show? Annoying, waste of an evening and a perfectly good Viagra. But, that's the cost of business of being a client. But, the gall after explaining in detail that Uber weeds out flakes -- priceless.

Now, based on a string of recent experiences, I'm off to go start the "The Climate is Changing (Escorts)" thread ;)

@hypothetically -- I was highly suspicious that you were my guy until you said you were in NYC :D

I think you're not going to have a very fun time if you keep getting upset at what's happening, or if you keep searching for the "logic" behind it all. I personally have experienced many of the things you've mentioned (as I'm sure many of the working fellows have), and I sometimes find they seem to come and go; at times, there are more oddball questions and flakes than others. This is part of the business and I would assert that nearly every business on earth has the time wasters, the people who don't read, the people who communicate ineffectively, etc. To me, part of the work we do is dealing with these things.

Essentially, you can be right or you can be happy.

Yeah I've learned to read the signs of time wasters and just move on. And not take personally. Like people that call without a text first. I've never had anyone book me that started our correspondence that way. So when my phone rings out of the blue I already know it's a low chance of a booking, so I lower my expectations. If they text me and get to the point...ok this is for serious. And for the former Backpage clients they will eventually get us rentmen guys are professionals and will treat us accordingly...I feel. Or maybe I'm too hopeful and glass half full!?? But I follow your motto and don't let it upset me till it does. If it upsets me I take a few days off and just spend more time in the pool or gym till I recover.

Sorry that happened to you! :-( I've heard from other clients of similar situations, so it probably does go both ways... The client has an advantage tho in that they can see our reviews or leave bad ones if we flake. We as escorts don't have recourse for bad behavior other than to learn to see the signs and ignore those people. I sometimes wonder tho if I am assuming the worse in someone for showing certain signs when in fact those signs could be a coincidence...? "It's a hard knock life! For us..." LOL

It's funny that the OP states "I’m sorry Backpage got shut down and you could have a grand ole time for the price of a Subway sandwich, but not on RM." I suppose clients that hired from Backpage need to lower their expectations if they now hire from Rentmen.

Yes, I’m jealous he’s older and got into the biz at a better time and does not have to worry as much about how the business is changing and getting tougher.

I hear that a lot from escorts who started earlier and were able to save money because of that.

I was a little bit taken aback when he posted a "GoFundMe" campaign because he needed to a take a yoga/reiki 2 weeks class in San Diego despite being so successful...

I just find it extremely disingenuous that he pipes in about how he’s so successful and the state of the business is fine fine and then he does embarrassing things like make a graphic celebrating 65K twitter followers (or check any of the tweets with 40-60 likes... which is most of them... and let me know how many of those likes are from real accounts...)

If he never pipes up about the state of the business, I hold my tongue.

I disagree with you on this, I think that's nothing but publicity, besides I got a feeling he goes after a different kind of clientele.

Thank you @OliverSaks for posting this you're a very sincere contributor of this forum.

I said before... bottom feeders are out of BP into the main sites... I've said it first. LOL

They'll end up in the Minneapolis airport trying to get a hand job for free or $10...

So my question to clients is this: Do you think the above is acceptable behavior? And if so, please share any success stories you may have by exercising the above behaviors. I just want a clear understanding of the logic behind these behaviors.

Two situations where logic and civility are absent: decisions made with the crotch, and online communications.

Online or e*communications driven by the little brain are not going to be logical. There's also a whole lot of inference going on.

The same behaviors occur with any of the "dating" apps, occurred on craigslist even in the simply platonic category.

I would never intenionally engage in most of the behaviors described in the original post. I will contact a guy, ask my screening questions, and that often results in a no-go decision. I'm trying to be direct yet polite. I'd bet many providers felt it was flakey.

When choosing a career, or supplemental-income activity, that involves hormone-driven online communications, either accept that its going to be flakey and uncivil, or try Xanax to deal with never-ending frustration. To lament the situation, to seek logical motivation, or hope to change it, is futile.

You think it’s flakey behavior if the client balks on paying for your Uber?

No, is not flaky but paying for Uber is a clear sign of interest/seriousness.

Maybe they stop responding to you because they find an escort that doesn’t need his transportation cost paid for by the client.

I don't know about Miami but in most large cities young men usually don't have a car... if that's what you imply. I'm sure there are plenty of choices for transportation, etc.

I would not pay for Uber for an escort. I have driven many escorts back to Manhattan from here at the Jersey Shore. I have given a tip to cover train fare if the visit is a short one. I am not frugal and I appreciate the effort being made to come out to where I am located. However, hundreds of thousands of people make this commute every day for their job. Most of the time, the commute is part of the cost of having the job. So if there is an expressed expectation of the client paying for communing costs, those expectations will not be met as part of the hire, at least by me they won't be. However, if the escort makes the effort, he will likely be rewarded above and beyond the cost of the transportation.

Screening goes in both directions.
