I don’t think anything guarantees Derek will show up.

There will always be others with bigger, better, or more treats.

Personally, I had a fantastic, wonderful first hire experience with Derek a few years ago. A year later we had an appointment all set and he completely flaked. If I may offer some practical advice: If Derek really turns you on--given what you "know" about his looks, his probable sexual orientation, etc.--then you might consider this strategy: See what his day is like; he probably is less busy in the afternoons than in the evening (when a rich guy might offer him $1200 for an overnight) or the morning (he is sleeping off the party the night before).
