I was watching the Australian soap opera "Neighbours". A gay couple was planning on moving in together. One was making space for the other and asked him how many pairs of shoes did he have "less than twenty?" and the other answered four. That surprised him.

My God! Where does everyone go to need so many? Not criticizing but how many different outfits do you have such that you would need that many shoes. I feel like I live in a convent.

Gurl, the shoes MAKE the outfit..... And FYI, now that I am retired, I really dont go anywhere... but in case I do, I got the shoes for it.

Eight pair of shoes, plus assorted slippers, mocassins. sandals and flipflops. But I wear the same two pair of athletic shoes 90% of the time, and replace them with similar models when they wear out.

(One of the wealthiest and best known men in Palm Springs wears the same model white tennis shoes no matter how he is dressed, even in a tux.)

That's quirky to the point of being crazy. He might as well wear tissue boxes the way Howard Hughes was purported to do. ;)

Seriously though, I love shoes and have more than a hundred pairs. It's not like they wear out once you reach a certain number and rarely wear them. Even though it's very matchy-matchy, I get a little shot of dopamine every time I get a perfect shirt-shoe match.

I'm stupid about shoes. I like topsiders, but the ones I had were uncomfortable. When they wore out, I bought another pair. They hurt even more. I have 1 black, one navy blue, one green that I only wear on St. Patrick's day, two sneakers, slippers, 2 sandals, two boots, plus wing tips older than most escorts.

just went and counted.....14 pairs, including cheap flip-flops, hiking boots, sandles, and a pair of slippers.....

but I wear the very same pair of Sauconys 95% of the time until it starts self-destructing, then I go get another pair at Big 5 (always on sale for $39.99) and start over.....

my feet see the hiking boots about 3% of the time and one of the other 12 pairs the remaining two percent
