Never did a survey. Word on the street used to be that Campus was 50/50, Stock was 99/1, Taboo was 1/99. :) That was a long time ago. I agree with Poppie that things are a lot more fluid nowadays and with Chidude that the labels have little relationship to how good a time a dancer will show you.

In my experience, which is mostly at Campus, a lot of them are straight, but definitely not all of them. And, it seems like there is a cultural difference there in how they define "straight." I've met quite a few guys there who would say something like "I'm straight, but I really enjoy sex with guys." I still haven't wrapped my head around that statement, but I've learned not to worry about it; if you're enjoying them, and they seem to be enjoying you, the labels don't matter.

Labels don't matter much - north or south of the border - not so much because it isn't necessary to define oneselves (saying something like "I'm not 'gay' I'm open") because being gay or bi or trans doesn't matter as much anymore. (I mean on a personal level for a period of time it might but generally for anyone under 35 ... whatever.) I guess gay establishment hiring mostly straight guys automatically limits what goes on in the back room private dance-wise ... limited liability. Lol. It'd make for a good Ladies Night a fun night ... ;)

My most regular Montreal guy (more than 15 years now) always said he was straight even after a night of getting pounded (initiated by him). I asked how he could still maintain he was straight when he so obviously enjoyed male on male sex. He said he liked me and we always had fun --but-- when he's walking down the street he's not looking at guys for sex... only women, so he's straight. I guess I get that thought process although I'd say it makes him more bi than str8.

Then there was a time we were in a straight bar for drinks and a girl kept cruising him. They talked for about 10 minutes and he came back to the table and said she was hesitant to talk to him because she thought we were a gay couple. When we left the bar about 20 minutes later and out on the street with all kinds of people around he wrapped his arms around me, gave me a great big kiss on the lips and shouted "How's that for being gay" LOL. I didn't complain, we just went back to my hotel and had great sex for the rest of the night.

So yeah... labels don't matter, just enjoy yourself :)

Good point Chidude. I find that men north of the boarder are not nearly as hung up on labels as we Americans. Many will identify as bisexual. Some are trysexual. Have fun and enjoy the great exchange rate.

For every $100 USD you get $136 Canadian!

36% is awesome.

I booked my hotel in Canadian to enjoy the savings.

Guess I don't get the appeal for a straight guy to strip for gay guys - even with the money

Well, muscular guys like to show off their bodies and it's a better way of earning money than, say, standing on your feet all day making lattes in a coffee shop.

You can work flexible hours of your choosing and earn very good money (especially on a night when D.L. is there...)

I guess for those dancers who have girlfriends or wives, performing for gay men is probably easier for their partners to handle.

Good point. If it isn't a secret lol

Yeah they do matter. Using labels is how gay men came out. Its about not hiding.

General question for you guys. Do you like them being straight?

General question for you guys. Do you like them being straight?

I have zero interest in strippers or escorts that are not 100% masculine. In my decades of experience, that generally means they will be str8 or bi if I am attracted to them. I find it rare indeed to find a truly masculine gay man.

I normally end up hanging out with the str8 strippers at whatever club I'm at. They invariably are the most masculine and hunky of the bunch.

I like them if they get naked with me for some sexy, x-rated fun. I don't care if his "stated preference" is men or women, as long as he lets loose and get downs for some naked monkey-business.

I think ideas about labels say something about generational attitudes. Labels don't matter much - north or south of the border - not so much because it isn't necessary to define or avoids oneselves (saying something like "I'm not 'gay' I'm open") because being gay or bi or trans doesn't matter much anymore. (I mean on a personal level for a period of time it might but generally for anyone under 35 ... whatever, so not a big deal.) I guess I'm curious why a gay establishment catering to a gay clientele would hire (99/1 at Stock ... really ... do you really think that?) mostly straight guys. I guess it'd automatically limit what goes on in the back room lap dance-wise ... limited liability. Lol. Must make Ladies Night a fun night ... ;) Bit of a buzz kill if all the dancers on stage are straight.

Ladies night is not terrible. It can be fun, mainly because the ladies don't spend much money and seldom hire the dancers for private shows. The dancers know where their paycheck is coming from and will single out the guys in the audience. Especially at Campus, the women in the club on Sunday night seem to like partying with the gay guys, so it's all good. I would say that the guys at Stock are about 10% gay, and the guys at Campus about 40% maybe--it is hard to tell and makes little difference.

What do gay performers think about this - I guess they are the ones that really matter

A bar like Stock is escapist fantasy. Everyone knows the deal.

In some respects, it's actually easier when the dancer is straight because both sides can keep things compartmentalized. One of the most awkward conversations with dancer I turned down was one who said "But you know I'm gay right!?".

Are there no gay performers looking for work?

In some ways, I suspect that it's an unappealing job for a lot of gay guys. Two reasons come to mind:

1. There is probably a certain stigma within the gay community around nude dancing (and other "sex work.") If a guy has social circles within the gay community, or wants to pursue a relationship, being a stripper could be tough. A straight guy, however, can more easily compartmentalize his job from the rest of his life and social circles.

2. A straight guy, I believe, has an advantage in a strip club; he's equally unattracted to all his (male) clients. He's just doing a job, performing a show, acting a role. The gay dancer, on the other hand, is naturally going to judge his clients based on their sex appeal. That might work out fine for the occasional hot client, or if the dancer happens to be naturally attracted to older men, but I suspect it's emotionally complicated for many gay dancers.
