How to name a porn star

So, some group of academics that studies names is having a convention in Oakland. Apparently, a couple of panels were devoted to drag queen/drag king names. A guy named Professor Arnold Zwicky presented a paper on gay male porn star names. Something tells me Arnold may get invited to a lot of parties.

 

In the course of his paper, Professor Zwicky shoots down all the Internet porn star name sites saying he could find no evidence any porn star had ever used these naming conventions. Most porn stars use simple, white bread American names. Professor Zwicky analyzed upwards of 2,600 porn star names in reaching his conclusions.

 

Best line from the paper: "A porn star's name isn't his most salient feature".

Wonder if Professor Zwicky received a grant for his study? How do I get one? Perhaps some endowment would fund a study of male escort endowment? How oddly appropriate is that?

Traditional wisdom rarely applies to the porn world. ;-)

 

I'd be "Pepper Church", and I'm pretty sure that wouldn't fly. I'm a little surprised at the "study" going on about it. A lot of the guys in porn don't actually choose their stage names. They're created by agents, managers, producers, or studios. And some of them evolve over time.

 

It's actually kinda fun sometimes to ask them how they got their stage name.

Honestly, the way I chose mine was I'm not such a good actor so I would totally screw up my name if I signed emails with it. So I stuck with a name that reflected my actual initials, so I'm not technically lying when I sign messages S A. And the last name was just to stay Jewish
