It is well established that transmission from oral can go both ways. http://www.ashasexualhealth.org/stdsstis/oral-sex-stis/. Several forum members have said that they’ve contracted an STI from oral sex without condoms. So far as I know, no one here has been struck by lightning. While I don’t know the odds (not sure anyone really does since it would be hard to do a good scientific study on it), the anecdotal evidence suggests that the chances of catching something this way are far from negligible. Further, you can’t really say, “I’ve been doing this forever, and I’ve never caught anything” since so many cases are asymptomatic. As @SteelFan pointed out in this recent thread, http://www.companyofmen.org/threads/buyer-and-seller-beware.117929/#post-1160196, the asymptomatic nature of most infections leads people to constantly pass these diseases around without even knowing it.

Personally, being a risk-averse person, I usually insist on condoms for oral sex. While the experience is less than ideal, I find that it is good enough for me. Based on prior discussions, I am not alone in this but I am in a distinct minority: http://www.companyofmen.org/threads/when-you-hire-or-hook-up-do-you-give-or-get-head-with-a-condom.112340/, http://www.companyofmen.org/threads/unprotected-oral.112722/

Occasionally, I’ll make an exception to my general rule, but when I do so, I am well aware that I am taking a risk. If I were in the mood to take this risk but the guy I was with wasn’t, I might be disappointed, but I wouldn’t fault him for trying to stay safe. Ideally, there would be prior communication on this point so everyone knew what he was getting into, but explicit communications can also carry their own risks, so sometimes these things just happen. I try to keep a flexible live-and-learn attitude.

The important issue THESE days, as Isee it, and as I hear it from many M.D. friends, is that the % of MULTIPLY-resistant STI's (particularly gonorrhea) is rising rapidly. In the old days, you (or, rather, I) got gonorrhea, chlamydia, or even syphilis and, as long as I caught the infection early enough, a single course of well-tolerated antibiotic took care of the problem. These days, they sometimes have to try more than one antibiotic to find one that works, and if you get the MDR kind, you end up with an IV drip of a really nasty drug of last resort that can have very unpleasant side effects. And like several have said, everyone faces the everyday risks of life in their own way. And takes those risks one at a time. Do I expect to be in an auto accident? Nope (only two minor ones in 50 years of driving). Do I wear my seat belt? You betcha!

Can someone recommend a current web site that runs down the common symptoms and treatments for chlamydia, syphilis, gonrrhea, etc? Getting to a urologist, or STI clinic is hard for me and takes weeks of planning. I would just like a "go to" quick resource with self-diagnosing information with perhaps a question/answer feature. I need some educating.

Also, how often do you get checked out for STI's? I'm on about an every 4 month plan, depending on if I've been lucky enough to have occasional sex.

in this part of the world most communities have a no-questions-asked walk-in clinic for these kinda tests

My closest one is a 4 hour round trip drive. Its where I go quarterly. I'm just a little nervous with the discussion of drug-resistent STI's and would like to know more and perhaps get a question on the subject answered with out making the drive. I find many sites, but their Q and A feature hasn't been active for years.

If you don't have many partners, 4-month intervals seems fine. I'm on the 3-month plan, since I'm on PrEP.

Thanks for the response @Rudynate. PrEP is one of the subjects I need info about. I plan to become more sexually active, and PrEP might be the way to go. I really want to protect my partners and, of course, myself. I'll start by searching the past threads on here.

glennn, I can certainly appreciate your health concerns and your focus on caution. But from your posts, its starting to sound a bit obsessive, and I am just afraid all the worry will start to take the "fun" out of your encounters. ? Like anything else, don't overthink this. If you are doing all you can to protect yourself, no need to worry sir....

Thank you for the "hug" @jjkrkwood! And the calming advice. XO

PrEP is extremely effective at preventing HIV infection, but it doesn't do you any good against other STIs.

Funny I come across this post.

I'm about to hire my first escort and blow jobs is exactly what I want to do, that's my love. I guess I'll have to ask/mention before booking if condoms will or won't be used. I had my first experience sucking someone with a condom on this past summer and it wasn't pleasurable at all. Hot dude, but I couldn't do it again. He even contacted me a few days ago and I simply told him I don't think we'll ever meet again because of our "differences" when it comes to certain things (the condom thing, our schedules).

This is an internationally recognized forum with great information and resources. I'm biased - my best friend (and ex of 7 years) started it and continues to run it - but it's an invaluable resource, both for science-based facts and support from a community.

  • 5 weeks later...

I've posted about this before and quite extensively, so I'll try to be brief here.

EVERY known STD and STI is transmittable via unprotected oral sex. The probabilities vary since the mouth isn't an ideal environment for some infectious agents.

HIV can be transmitted via oral though it's considered low risk so long as no cuts, open sores, etc. exist in the mouth/throat and on the penis.

Gonorrhea and Chlamydia are very easy to catch via unprotected oral sex. Even worse, they are able to establish localized colonies in the throat or anal cavity such that they do not show up on standard STD/STI screening without swabs being taken of the areas. That's why it's important to be tested for all STDs/STIs regularly AND mention that you have unprotected oral and/or anal sex so that the swabs are also done.

Syphilis is easily communicable via unprotected oral sex.

Herpes is easily communicable via unprotected oral sex.

HPV is easily communicable via unprotected oral sex and is the most common STD on Earth. Further, there has been a significant increase in throat and oral cancers in America and early indications may tie much of the increase to the misplaced belief that oral sex is safe sex.

Hepatitis is more complicated. Hep A may be communicable if you rim or you enjoy unprotected A2M (Ass to Mouth) oral sex. Hep B & C are mostly via blood, so open sores, cuts, etc. are of concern.

There are many other STDs/STIs to consider, but generally speaking, they're low-risk for unprotected oral sex.

Good hygiene matters. Regular testing matters. Taking care of your teeth. Gargling with an alcohol based mouthwash after oral sex is important. Urinating and washing your penis thoroughly, especially if you're not circumcised, is very important. Regular and frequent comprehensive STD/STI screening is very important. Basic common sense matters. Good luck!

It's funny, I'm actually more worried about stds if I hookup from a random guy thats around my age from like grindr or something

That's actually a very rational common sense fear. My experience with allot of guys on Grindr is that many are sexually compulsive. Yeah, age plays a part in that too. When you're young you want to fuck like bunnies all the time. By the time they figure they've got something it's been spread to like 100 other guys already. Just an updated bath house experience.

. . . But I don't hookup anymore if its not with a client. I can't remember the last time I've had sex with someone who isn't a client.

I know this is absolutely none of my business (and obviously please feel free not to answer it) is it because there are occasions where the sex with a client is as satisfying as you had met a guy on grindr, etc.?

Sex with a client is always great and satisfying, I find older guys hot in general, so its the best of both worlds, I find them hot, sex is great and I get financial help from it. Also I get texts/calls from clients/regulars randomly so I never know when Im going to get hired so I prefer to save my energy, and big load ;) for them instead :)

Thanks Dominiking for sharing that. I was not sure if an escort enjoys the encounter (I know, of course, everyone is different) or if he enjoys the person but not the sex. Like a friendship where you might also have to perform some task you don't really want to because they are your friend.

well sex wise, I want to make sure first the client is enjoying himself, so when he does, thats when I do too. I want to please them, but some clients no matter how much you want to please them, they just want to please you and see you get off hehe ;) :p

As for the person, you can't know them much from one meeting, so overtime if I see them over and over again, we develop a bond and friendship and its more than just sex at that point. I'll be honest I developed little crushes on my regulars, especially one who I flirt with back and forth here and there when we are not meeting up :p.

utter bs...

I recently hired an escort who surprised me when we met.

As usual, before we met, I told him what I was expecting - including mutual oral. He said that was fine.

When we got started and reached the oral part of our encounter - he looked at me and said he only performs oral on someone wearing a condom and only receives it if he is wearing one as well. That is not a worthwhile experience for me, so all of a sudden we had a lot less to do.

I was annoyed by this. Clearly, he should have told me beforehand - but the bigger question is - Do you find this is a common practice with escorts you've hired? I'm well-aware of safe sex practices, but for me, this version of oral sex is pointless and I would avoid hiring an escort with this policy altogether.

I have hired many escorts - and he was the first to ever say this. (Note: He is an established escort with years of escorting under his belt).

Is this becoming something more common among escorts?

Silly!

I would never give or receive head through a condom!
