Hi all, I'm going to be visiting Palm Springs later this month and wondered if anyone had recommendations for places to stay, things to do. There seem to be so many gay-themed resorts... how to choose which one? Any input would be greatly appreciated!

I'll try to make this as brief as possible. Last month I stayed for two nights at the " Hacienda ". It's a gay owned bed and breakfast. I highly recommend it. My first impression of the resort was as soon as I walked. I felt like I had walked into a condo. The rooms are very spacious. The living rooms are fantastic. If one looks like to cook. You wont be disappointed to see how the kitchen looks. Lots of closet space. Lots of shower space, in fact two shower heads for the price of one. A lovely fireplace to relax in front of and bungle up with partner. The couple who own the resort are wonderful guys. They are very gracious and really like to get to know their guests. They are very helpful in recommending sites to visit. The food is fantastic. A nice swimming pool and the hot tub is perfect, especially for a hot summer night, or those cold winter nights. Very relaxing. The resort is located very close to Palm Springs Airport.

If you want to do something in PS, lots of casinos. Some nice dance clubs out there. Horseback riding, a hiking trail, dirt bike riding up in the hills. Lots of treasure hunts. In down town Palm Springs, a really nice shopping center. Nice restaurants. They do have tour packages in PS, nice deals at yahoo travel. I hope you have fun in Palm Springs.

Palm Springs

There are a number of threads about Palm Springs over the last three to four years, nearly all in the Lounge section, that you can easily search for. This is a good one to point you to:

A few other comments: since you are flying from the Bay Area and will need a car in Palm Springs, I would strongly recommend flying into Ontario versus Palm Springs airport, unless a client is willing to pay the greater fare and for the more limited flight schedule. You would also get to check out some other things this way, like Joshua Tree or the Premium Outlet Mall on your way into or out of Palm Springs.

In addition to the sites mentioned on the thread above, I would also look at http://www.psbottomline.com, this is the local gay and lesbian news magazine, which will have a complete list of the current properties, their toll free numbers and rates.

The Hacienda is a very nice property. It is not very cruisey. Recommending between the gay resorts really depends on what you want from your stay: peace and quiet, cruising, nudity, convenience, etc. Again, some of this is discuss from a number of vantage points in a number of threads on the topic.

Enjoy your trip!

RE: Palm Springs

Also, once you get to PS, don't forget to pick up a copy of the free weekly Desert Daily Guide (you can also get it in a number of places in SF) to find out what is happening every hour of every day in the numerous bars in PS and Cathedral City. A conventional tourist activity that is fun is the tram to the top of Mt. San Jacinto, which provides an aerial view of PS.

If you have a voyeur side, the All-Worlds Resort on Warm Sands is great. Clothing optional and they do filming for their pictures on site. Very hot indeed!;) ;)

RE: Palm Springs

Thanks everyone for all the great references and recommendations. This is exactly the kind of feedback I was looking for. Yup, Ontario airport is in my future... just couldn't pass up that $39 fare! And forgot about those date shakes, I'll make a special side trip to get one of those. Thanks again.

I second Rohale's nomination for The Hacienda...

It's luxurious, comfortable, well-designed and functions much like a upscale resort than extended-stay bathhouse. If you're looking for frolic, you can always get a daypass to other, more cruisey places, while still staying in a quiet, reserved atmosphere.

It's super close to All-Worlds Resort, which seems to be THE spot for finding Mr Right Now.

Now, if you're looking for something non-gay and simply smashing, i recommend The Estrella (aka, The Viceroy Inn). It's BEAUTIFULLY designed and the service is impeccable. Pools-a-plenty and the staff, along with the guests are Ian Schrager hotel-esque great looking. A terrific place all-around.

Be safe & have a ball (or four) in Palm Springs ;)

Warmest Always,
