SkyDeck is the brainchild of aerospace engineering services company Windspeed Technologies, which is currently seeking investors for its project, director of engineering Bruce Stewart told HuffPost. After funding, it would take about 12 to 18 months to get SkyDeck out of development and onto real planes.

Would you like to try it?

Personally I prefer the mile high club...

Some private aircraft owners may take to this. But I bet no commercial airline will touch it. From the manufacturer's web site:

...since the SkyDeck will generally be positioned towards the rear of the aircraft, additional fuel burn due to any added drag will be small to negligible. CFD analysis or wind tunnel tests will be performed to address these concerns.

I.e., they don't really know yet.

Airlines today are leaning like mad on Boeing and Airbus, who in turn are pressuring the engine manufacturers, to find ever more ways to increase efficiency and minimize fuel burn by even a fraction of a percentage point. They will not give this thing the time of day.

Looks like a dumb gimmick to me.

Notice the interior seating on the demo plane is far from coach commercial interior.

This is a billionaire's toy....and a stupid one at that....it your rich enough to afford this,

you're rich enough to just go sit in the cockpit to get your cheap thrills.

Yeah, but then you'd distract the pilot and put everyone at risk.

I love the skydeck idea. It looks like the navigator's bubble from WW2 bombers.

I think passengers would either pay extra to go up there for 3 minutes and first class would have access for free. I don't think anybody would like to be up there for the whole flight.
