I'm old school and can only think of the Rams in LA. I could never adjust to calling them the LA Raiders.

Old School? The Oakland Raiders moved to LA in 1982 after starting in Oakland in 1960. Then they moved back to Oakland in 1995. So 13 of their 55 year history they were the Los Angeles Raiders.

well, sorry to insult your native land, BVB, but.....you know.......

Oh I know...LOL...Speaking of native land, my one and only gorgeous neighbor is leaving tomorrow for your neck of the woods. He's all of 24, but is some big tech guy working with a company out of NYC. They said he could live anywhere, so he is heading to this place...

Hanover Mill, adjacent to ASU. He's all excited about the mountain biking and hiking possibilities, we don't have much of that here...LOL..we're a bit on the flat side. Not sure if he is gay, can't quite get a bead on him, but he is damn cute, a bit flirtatious, in a shy sort of way, and I will miss him. I got no game, so nothing ever happened...;)

Old school in that my dad grew up in So Cal and was a huge fan of the Rams - - I remember he looked forward to watching Roman Gabriel whenever a Rams games was televised in the Midwest. And Merlin Olsen. And in the 80s I had a little crush on Jim Everett. So for me, the only team in LA was the Rams.

The NFL is drooling over the LA market because it's HUGE. The previous NFL franchises that were in LA were not successful, so what makes them think it will work now? What's changed?

Why does LA always have to steal pro teams from some other city? Why can't they create their own? (Note: I have never forgiven them for stealing the Dodgers from Brooklyn, and never will.)

Because as azdr alludes to, nothing in LA is real. It's a facade, hiding a cultural wasteland. (no letters, emails or pm's please)

WHAT? I live near L. A. How can you say that? Cultural wasteland? I don't think so. We have Disneyland, movie studios and their backlot sets, wax museum, famous actors, Tinsel town, huge freeways, massive traffic jams, the largest porn production studios in the Valley..... hmmm........ok, never mind. ;)

Los Angeles is far from a cultural wasteland. The LA philharmonic, LA Opera, Getty Center, MOCA, LACMA, LA Chamber Orchestra, the new Broad Museum all refute that ridiculous statement. As for the NFL, they left and LA has flourished without them. As to their possible return, frankly my dear I don't give a damn. I speak as a fourth generation Angelino. There are many who would welcome them back, but an even larger number who only do so as long as it doesn't cost the taxpayers a nickel.

My post above was really in jest. Of course, L. A. is far from a cultural wasteland. Everything you mentioned... world class orchestra and museums, etc. And really, I'll add the movie studios... Disney, Warner Brothers, Fox.... Look how their movies influence and reflect our culture.

Maybe the only difference, say from NY, is that L. A. is so spread out.

To echo b2b, Los Angeles is actually a truly wonderful place. No other city in the United States is home to 300 different spoken languages. All of these speakers have brought pieces of their cultures with them, and frankly, they have made LA probably the most interesting city in America. Traffic stinks & LAX is the syphilitic bowels of Hell, but LA is a place that believes that one should keep smiling even when you can smell the shit--eventually it will drift off....and it turns out that view is correct....

LAX is the syphilitic bowels of Hell,

Perfect description, kuriousity

You may well say that, I couldn't possibly comment. When I used to travel to the US for work it was pretty much the only option as gateway airport from Oz. Thankfully there are options of flying direct to SFO and DFW and even YVR to avoid it, although LAX is still the one with the most flights.

I grew up (and still live in) the Suburban Wasteland of Orange County, and ostensibly should root for the Rams . . . but there is simply NO WAY I can root for the 'lambs' . . .
