I nominate this comment as Best Posting of 2015! ;)

I can't stop laughing "high-tolerance package a-tottering" ...

Thanks

I had to look up who she was.

28 years in a permanent vegetative state now that's an eggnog with a punch. :D

I'm not a fan of it mixed with coffee/espresso so much. I will tolerate it but won't go running for it.

If God had meant for coffee to be flavored he would have grown it that way. Straight and strong, as opposed to my choice in men, gay and strong.

Yes, I love egg nog. I've never made it myself, always used the store bought version. Yes, it probably was packed with HFC. I haven't had it for years because it's so fattening.

I was never a fan of eggnog until I tried White House eggnog. It's served warm, in a large punch bowl with a huge block of vanilla ice cream floating in the center. While they're serving, the bartenders are constantly stirring and ladling the nog over the block of ice cream. The closer it gets to empty the creamier it gets.

And of course it's spiked with rum. Heavily.

I like my coffee like my men..black and strong, as the case may be.... :D

How did the eggnog thread move to kawfee? Fwiw, I prefer my men like my cafe con leche - sweet, flavorful and full of steaming milk.

I prefer to have his steaming milk in me. :)

Sorry, sorry, I know that was kinda crude... however, true.

Well, J3, I never said what I do with the "steaming milk" in my cafe con leche, but I love the way you think! ;)

Such a small world, Glennnn. My dad loved his T&J in a white coffee mug. He swore he learned how to make it after spending time in the Midwest and that the recipe went back to the 1800s by some guy who was known a Jerry Thomas. Shrug!

Ok, my family has been making "Tom & Jerrys" since early last century, lol. I'm the fourth generation to carry on this Christmas Day tradition. We are of Caucasian background with a healthy dose of Hispanic via Mexico (I don't think the culture is relevant?, just saying...) Our Tom & Jerry drink is NOT eggnog albeit many of the same ingredients.

I separate 6 eggs, beat yolks (electric mixer a ++) with 1# sifted confectioners sugar with touch of baking soda and vanilla until blended, is very heavy/sticky. Then beat the reserved egg whites in a separate bowl until peaks form, then use your best technique to fold the yolk/sugar batter with the whipped whites, Still sticky, but now very light.

Put a 1/4 cup or so of this batter into a mug/cup, add some boiling water, top with liquor. My family uses 50/5o brandy/bourbon but there are many booze permutations/preferences to rum, etc.

Stir this all up in the cup and sprinkle with nutmeg.

It's a bit lighter of a drink vs. eggnog, no milk/cream (although we use hot milk for "virgin" T&J for kids).

It's one of my favorite things. Knudsen's Egg Nogg is better than nectar of the gods or my mother's milk. And the app Due reminds me every year around Thanksgiving "Do not drink Egg Nogg no matter what!" It makes me horribly nauseas. :-(

I am not born in the US and I only tried the egg nog puff once. It is way too strong and brings this weird smell to my tongue. So I think I will need to stay away from it for a long time.
