I will be brief: I have never used them but over the years many of my clients have. It has never been an issue. The client ALWAYS provided his own poppers and NEVER asked me to provide them or expected me to provide them. However....in the last 3 months all of this has changed. It seems as if there must be a SUPPLY problem????? I am losing a couple appointments a week over this from clients who otherwise would book and are not booking for ONLY this reason. Does anyone have any idea what is going on? I would be interested to hear from medical pros on this forum concerning the risks and dangers of poppers and legal pros on this forum about the legal issues with poppers. MIKEY in DC

I'm not a medical or legal pro, but my advice is don't do it. I've read enough about poppers that they scare me. If the user has some medical condition you don't know about and you where proven to have provided poppers to them, and something went wrong. Could you be charged with involuntary manslaughter ? Is it worth the risk?

If I were an escort, I wouldn't provide them. Let clients bring them along.

They do get harder and harder to buy.

I've never been able to keep track of the legal status of poppers. Real poppers, isoamyl nitrite, are a prescription drug, and thus, their sale by unauthorized providers is illegal. I do not believe that possession and/or use is illegal though. Then there are all those other alkyl nitrites that have approximately the same effect as real poppers, and I don't understand their legal status. I think it is illegal to sell isobutyl nitrite for consumer use as an inhalant. Not sure on that, though. That's why all those bottles are labelled as nail polisher, video head cleaner, etc. But again possession and/or use, AFAIK is not illegal. As far as the others, isopropyl nitrite, etc., etc., no clue.

it seems that there are enough websites where one can buy poppers, not the amyl nitrate though.

Years ago (in the early 2000's) you could order the actual Amyl Nitrate from Mr B's Leather in Sweden (I believe) and they would ship it to you. However, about 2 years after 9/11 they stopped shipping liquids to the US.

Mike,

First of all, the stuff one can get nowadays are lame compared to what you can get in the past.

Second, perhaps clients assume that the escort has the inside track to better stuff?

Third, I only know of ONE place in DC where you can get poppers. So clients may not know where to buy them and turn to the escort as a possible supply source instead.

If someone is hiring an escort, the client should be the one to provide the condoms, lube (though those are two items that an escort should always carry when going to an appointment), poppers and whatever other items are wanted or needed by the client. Other than condoms and lube, unless the escort specifically says "I have that" or "I will bring that" then the client needs to provide everything.

Seriously? If I go to the Doctors, I supply the gloves, vaccine, syringe, etc.??? If I go to the spa, I provide the linens, towels, soap, massage oil, etc.???

I don't think so for $XXX per hour....

I know that people get hooked on various substances for various reasons. I don't know that poppers are addictive, but I have met my share of guys that don't seem to want to have any kind of sex without them. Personally, I can't stand them. I've never done them, but just that horrid chemical smell of them being used near me is enough to turn me off completely. And yet I've met guys occasionally who don't care - they either get to do their poppers or we don't get to do anything.

And every time I've acquiesced and decided I can deal with that disgusting smell for the sake of being with a guy I think is otherwise hot, he can't get it up. (Which does seem to be a symptom of the stuff, so what the hell is the point?) So then I wind up with a room that smells like a chemical plant AND a guy with a limp dick. Great. Just great.

It's being proactive. If you need condoms or gloves, you're just going to trust that the escort will have them? In my experience, they often do. And in my experience, they often offer to bring various things with them. But anything that I really needed to have for my own pleasure or safety, I would be sure to have on hand.

I see your point and point well taken. Makes sense.

I would minimally use them (sometimes to get a nice big dick to where I want it) but I am always wary to travel with them. So it is great that the escort that I plan on seeing in another state has them there. I think that if an escort offers a service then he should provide the things it would take to provide it. However, if I want to make sure they are there then I will bring them otherwise things will not go as planned or as suggested, I will ask the escort.

I have NEVER ever used poppers. The closest was a situation where I met a former forum member at the NYBC and he used them while I flogged him. In such a situation it was a public venue and others were around in case something went awry. In a private situation, "No Way Jose!"

I have posted this before, but my decision to stay away from poppers was definitely reaffirmed as being the correct decision a couple of years ago at Fulsome East. A friend sampled a product from England. His face turned bright red and I literally thought that he was going to keel over and drop dead right there. I almost could see the steam coming right out of his ears. The gods only know what was in that concoction. I also wondered if what you bought was the same thing as what you sampled.

Too many variables in the escort business to begin with. Adding another variable by supplying poppers is a recipe for disaster.

I have wondered the same thing. Particularly when I am offered poppers by men who don't know me all that well. It's happened more than once.

The interactions between poppers, blood pressure medications and viagra can literally be deadly.

And since this is not exactly a big secret, I have never understood why someone who barely knows me, but is having me as a guest in his home, would not be concerned about it -- if not for my safety, than because he wants to avoid having a crisis on his hands? Makes no sense to me.

Trust your gut. Steer clear.

He might have assumed that you were an adult and capable of refusing them if you didn't want them.

Adults make poor judgments all the time. Sometimes other adults aid and abet them, and are held responsible.

Which illustrates an important point. The sexual marketplace is a dangerous venue. Bad things can happen to people who don't know how to take care of themselves.

The standard of culpability required for a showing of reckless endangerment or voluntary manslaughter is pretty high - criminal negligence or recklessness. Law enforcement might think the person offering the poppers was thoughtless and/or stupid but I seriously doubt that they would find any criminal liability.

I am always amazed about the conversation about what drugs one needs to get fucked. I don’t need mollies, poppers, ecstasy or any other drug out there. I do need a dick of any size and passionate lips, a great tongue and a passionate kisser. It may hurt a little on entry, but once in, fuck my brains out, kiss me passionately and I will be happy! Oh by the way bring your lube and condoms, just in case I am out!

I have used poppers and have a couple of bottles in my freezer as we speak, but typically they stay right where they are. A few years ago I noticed they would trigger an asthma flare-up and I decided to limit my use of them.

My advice to you, Michael, is to refrain from providing them unless you know the client. You do not know how the client will react to them and could have a bad situation on your hands.
