FOOTBALL?? Isn't it still baseball season?? Go Royals!!

Actually if you are a sports junkie this ultimate time. MLB World Series, NFL, NHL, NBA are all in post season or regular season play plus hunting season.:D

I imagine lots of divorces happen during this time period.

All things we could be discussing on the SPORTS FORUM if there was one.

I planned on just hiding in the house, but a couple friends suggested coming over, handing out candy & drinking beer. I grabbed a few bags of Butterfingers, Tootsie Rolls, Milk Duds, Reeses cups, and Mounds; they brought Snickers. We had a flurry of trick-or-treaters about 7:00 and in our panic we opened the Mounds, which we were hoping would be left over for us. Ditto for the Milk Duds. I live about a mile north of the Detroit city line and a few people get in a snit about 'city kids coming up to our neighborhood' - I don't understand it. I don't know ANY of the trick-or-treat aged kids around me, what's the difference?

Most kids enjoyed my dog coming out on the porch and waiting for HER candy.

Sounds like my kind of night. :D

I live in an older suburb lots of mid-century tract ranches. Not too many kids. But have been seeing lots of hipsters lately:rolleyes: and hearing stories of gentrification.

My 3 dogs are total attention whores and steal my lime light at any and every opportunity especially anytime there was a cute dad with his kids. They have a sixth sense about these things I think. Total cock blockers.

Hence why I own a cat...he scurries away when strangers knock on my door, and when I need the stranger to leave, (pinching my nose as I write this) I just leave the door to the litter box area wide open... :D

Being a Cleveland fan is like shooting yourself in the foot (or in better Cleveland spirit, "youre gonna shoot your eye out")

I also bought a Cleveland browns lighter, so appropriate it burns things and let's you down (with or without) wind blowing.

With that said, go Browns! Woof woof woof

I gave out whatever was in the big bag of stuff I got at Costco. (Snickers, Milky Way, M&Ms plain & peanut, Nestle Crunch, Twix, Reeses)

Unfortunately I had so few visitors that I'm now stuck with most of a big bag of stuff I got at Costco. (Last year I had over 100 visitors. This year fewer than 20.)

Off to the office with it. They'll all complain, but they'll eat the stuff. Better them than me!

Too soon after what? Far as I'm concerned, it's fine to cross-dress on Halloweeen. Have fun with it! But it's not fine to pretend to be a trans person for Halloween when you're not.

I don't care if you think trans people are PC spoilsports for not appreciating your using their identity for your amusement. It's not a matter of offense. By making it seem like you can "pass" as trans for one night and then abandon it, you are implying that trans identity is just a drag performance. It's a lie. It's not real, it doesn't exist, and our "acceptance" is as shallow as a puddle.

Even if it is intended respectfully, it will not come across that way to trans people and their advocates and supporters. It will instead come across as an act of mockery. That's hurtful. I see nothing praiseworthy about that.

You probably don't want to get me started on cultural appropriation, clothing, and what I thought of the Chinese-themed gala benefiting the Met's Costume Institute.

The first year I lived in my current home, we got all excited about Halloween and trick or treaters. We got two visits - a mother with 2 or 3 little kids in tow and a chubby kid in no costume who was a little old to be trick or treating. He offered him the bowl of candy bars, he was getting to put his hand in and scoop a third of the bowl's contents into his bag, I pulled the bowl back and said "One!" He said, "Uh, oh, ok." The little shit. I have since noticed that all of our neighbors keep their lights off and pretend not to be at home. There's very little activity. Don't know why. There are plenty of kids with families.

No, please don't get started on that. Personally I disagree with you, but that's fine.

I mean this sincerely: why? I don't understand the appeal.

I was more vehement than your question probably deserved because I was also responding to another thread that made a blanket statement (including disparaging political correctness when the basis for much of it is not causing further hurt to people society already looks down on and harms) rather than asking a question. It seemed to me that responding there was likely to result in more heat than light.
