Where should we look now?

Given that escorts still need to make a living, and rentboy isn't likely to fill the role it has been filling, where should we turn for information?

 

As a client, I certainly appreciate daddysreviews.com and this message forum, but I've always used them in conjunction with rentboy, which provides more pictures, more details, and some indication that the escort or masseur is currently active.

 

I'm thinking that I'd like to turn to rentmen.com as the best alternative. Men4rentnow always frustrates me because the photos are so small, and the listings are so unreliable.

 

I'd like to hear from other clients and escorts about where they'd like to turn. I'm pretty sure most escorts need to keep their business going, so waiting for rentboy to sort out its problems isn't an option.

 

(And, please let's not use this thread as another place to debate and discuss the rentboy takedown. There are other threads that are serving that purpose. Let's talk about how we're moving forward.)

That's an excellent question. I was speaking with friends on the phone tonight and with a couple of escorts, and that was the topic of conversation. The consensus is that Rentboy is not coming back, if that is the case, how does everyone move forward. This might have a fairly significant impact on how many clients hire, and how and where escorts advertise. I don't think we really have that answer yet. In the interim, I would imagine that Rentmen will see a significant increase, and I also think that many escorts and clients will turn to CL and BP. I would also imagine that many escorts will be more careful how they talk to and communicate with clients.

 

Perhaps you will see more direct hiring. Dealing with escorts on a more personal level through social media, and bypassing traditional sites. Whatever happens, I truly believe that while things might change, in the end, we will be able to adapt. For myself, I actually haven't used a site like Rentboy in quite sometime. My hiring has been through recommendations from sites like this one and through strips clubs like 'The Boardwalk' and 'Le Boy'. Most of my friends turned to CL and BP years ago and only occasionally use more traditional sites.

 

Everything in life changes, and maybe there is no going back. Those that are able to adapt will be able to move forward, those that can't, will be left feeling frustrated by not being able to do business as usual.

My experience over the years is that their functions are great, but their email system is utterly unreliable. I cancelled my ad after having this conversation with them far, far too many times.

In other posts, people have speculated about whether rentboy should have gone overseas, but it brought

to mind another website that seems very well organized, which I have the impression is based in NL,

gayromeo.com . It appears to be amenable to commercial as well as private citizen usage.

 

In the past it's had little enough participation in the US that members given have been given elevated privileges

that normally require payment (to promote its use).

As a new client, probably back in the closet. With my one and only hire, I researched and read up on any and all reviews to make certain that I wasn't getting into something I'd regret. With the ability to do this possibly disappearing, I'm left with Craigslist and Backpage. Between the fakes, scams and sketchy people, it's simply not worth it. I don't want to end up as the lead story at 6 (local man's body found.......)

While Rentboy was the highest-visibility escort site, when I compared RB with Rentmen and M4RN, I was always a little surprised at who wasn't on RB. I always assumed it was a cost or quality-of-service issue.

A good solution might be a return to print ads in the local Gay press like "Frontiers" in L.A. If it's all local there would be no grounds for the Feds to be involved.

www.rentmen.com/mikeyusatop has ALWAYS been a better site than rentboy ever even dreamed of being. VERY customer and client friendly as well as actually usable and touchable. For me : www.men4rentnow.com has always produced more ACTUAL CLIENTS than rentboy. Rentboy produced many inquires, games FAKES, fools and frauds with A FEW great clients BUT the other two (especially Rentmen) really produced good, loyal, local, regular clients as well as visitors and tourists. McDonalds is out of biz (RB) but u can still get a great burger!!!!!!!

I joined Rentboy and RentMen simultaneously when I started. After a month of using both, I found myself preferring the RM site a lot more. It's more of a community and felt a lot safer then RB. Guys would send messages through the site and usually weren't looking for "right now." I prefer an exchange, whether through email or text, before committing to meeting a client. The clients that want right now without a discussion of expectations, etc. is the type that I found normally responded to my RB ad. I would always choose a RM client over a RB one more often then not.

 

Now with RB down, RM does seem to be a lot colder and much more transaction based then it ever was.

Well, my good man...a lot of those clients who used RentBoy like Domino's Pizza have migrated to RentMen. Let's not forget that RentBoy was the main sponsor of that freak show of Horrors "Hustlaball". To this day, I still cringe at the image of the Rocco Steele-Leo Forte video of Rocco bb'ing Leo on a bed at Vegas Hustlaball while people stood around the bed with camera phones...
