My thoughts are with you. I have had two knee replacements and two friends have had hip replacements. None of these were emergencies and our recoveries were swift and surprisingly painless. Once back on your feet being without pain, after probably years of endless pain, will be a wonderful new experience.

All of the best for a smooth course. You will be surprised how easily it will now be to get up in the morning.

Here in California it will be clear and sunny so our thoughts and prayers won't run afoul.

I concur. Everybody I know who has had a hip replacement talks about the dramatic change and "new life" that is ahead of you.

Encouragements!!!

I already have an [ex-] escort living with me. Long story, but his life turned to $#it and he needed a place to stay. He works evenings, but he'll be around to help with dressing changes, laundry, etc.

Both my Physical Therapist and my Personal Trainer are on my coaching team. They are both well-experienced (as well as hunky) and rooting for me.

Thank you, everyone, and God bless you all!

Well, I'm not sure you "need" my help with all yo' hot boyzes around, but I'm offering anyway! :)

The Hot Boyzes include the escort and his grey tabby cat. The Cat seems to know that there is Something Afoot.

Good luck & please keep us posted on your progress. As long as your BFF in Missouri spoke to "THE MAN" on your behalf, I say you have nothing to worry about. :)

It sounds as if you have a wonderful (and sexy!) support structure in place, Count Sir Gallahad! All the positive thoughts, prayers and wishes we forum contributors are sending your way should speed your recovery along, so you can quickly get back to being our "Court Jester" of the Realm!!! :D

Sending positive energy and prayers your way this morning Gallahad. Many here are thinking about you as you ready yourself for the surgery. Good luck...

Ditto! POSITIVE ENERGY!!!!

Best wishes.

Thinking of you today and hoping you have the same excellent results from this surgery that one of my good friends has enjoyed. (She had the surgery in her early 70s and was told she would not be playing tennis again. "That's what you think!" she told the doctor. It gave her incentive ... and she did indeed play tennis again. I wish you a similar circumstance.)

The surgery is over. Done under spinal, with narcotics in the drug list. Excellent pain relief until an hour ago, and now I'm at 8.7/10, down from 9/10. Fortunately, this will last about 48° And then start to decrease.

It's a bitch,

Being the only one around who knows how to treat acre, severe postoperative pain.

Perhaps your attending physician will be open to suggestions. http://www.boytoy.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif

I'm glad the surgery is over & you felt well enough to post. I agree with Lookin, have an MD to MD talk with your surgeon about postoperative pain. Keep us posted on your progress.

Hoping they start giving you some effective pain relief. Where's a damn PCA pump when you need one.

Gman

Why don't you have the PCA (patient controlled analgesia)? Most hips replacement patients I have seen are given that by the orthopedist, the anesthesiologist or the internist on the case. Raise some hell man and get some pain relief.

Regarding Patient-Controlled Analgesia:

When it is properly used, the patient would have 1-2 valid requests per hour. Fewer, and the dose is too much; more, and the dose is insufficient. Also, during times of rest, there would be no drug administered, and a basic "safety rule" is that PCA can maintain adequate analgesia, but cannot create analgesia.

If I have the choice between two or three oxycodones tablets every three to four hours, versus pushing the button every twenty minutes: I'll take the former.

Which is why PCA fell out of favour. Discussion of the use of a baseline infusion to maintain analgesia in times of rest should be regarded as an indication to head out to the nearest pub for a pint or three.
