goofing around this Sunday afternoon on the 'puter, I find that actor Jeffrey Hunter had lobbied for the part of Mike Brady on "The Brady Bunch" in 1969.....he was rejected by the studio as too handsome for the part.....soooo, certainly had to go look THAT up!.....he is probably best known for his role in "The Searchers"....admittedly, these are highly-posed, publicity shots, but wow!.......

Just a side note- he was Captain Pike in the Star Trek pilot in 1966 before there was a Captain Kirk.
Yes they used some of that original pilot footage for a later episode in which the recollections of an encounter with Pike and Spock are part of the testimony and a robotized Pike is a member of the judging tribunal. The trial turns out to be a ruse to allow Pike to be returned to the planet in which thoughts can be used in a way to make a very real dreamlike place and Pike is reunited back in his old body with the slave woman with whom he was in love. She projected a physical beauty when in reality she was deformed and scarred. Jeffrey Hunter also did a few Blood and Sandal type movies.

It was The Cage. That was the original Star Trek Pilot. NBC didn't like it and ordered a new pilot. The special effects on Star Trek were causing huge delays. Effects that can be done fairly simply now with the use of CGI were incredibly difficult. By reusing the majority of The Cage inside another episode (a two-parter no less) it gave the production team some breathing space to complete more episodes. The later episode where they used bits of The Cage was The Menagerie. The actor who played wheelchair bound current day Christopher Pike in the Menagerie was not Jeffrey Hunter.

Even being gay, I always noticed how beautiful Susan Oliver looked while playing Vina.

Jeffrey Hunter also made a very fetching Jesus in King of Kings (1961). I tried to Upload a photo but failed.

Maybe this will work.

As Vina, she also took on the appearance of the iconic Green Orion Slave Girl, the aliens made her look like that thinking that Captain Pike was into things a little less vanilla. :-) Their ultimate goal was to get Pike and Vina to breed and repopulate their planet. Now that I write that, that's kinda racy for 1966.

On the two-part "Star Trek" episode, I thought it was one of the original series' best. That was such an intriguing place/race/concept. Your own holodeck that never quits running. I'd like to go to that planet myself.

I wish the original series had done more two-parters, and I wish that any of the other series had revisited that planet.

I think "Sailor of the King" was his best film. I think it was released in the US as "Single-Handed". An added benefit is that he spends a lot of time on screen shirtless. It's based on a story by C. S. Forester. It really does hold up well considering it was made in 1953. The supporting cast includes Michael Rennie, and Wendy Hiller. You can see clips on YouTube.
