Josh Duggar (19 kids and count.) acknowledges he molested 5 underage girls.

Josh Duggar has resigned as Executive Director of the Family Research Council, acknowledging he sexually molested underage girls including some of his sisters, calling his conduct inexcusable.

The Duggars, the reality TV family famous for its progeny (19 Kids and Counting) and its conservatism, is reeling now that oldest son, Josh, has been forced to acknowledge he was investigated for molesting underage girls when he was a teenager in Arkansas.

His acknowledgement came after InTouch magazine published a story Thursday about police records it obtained from Springdale, Ark., hidden since 2006, that show Josh Duggar confessed to his father, Jim Bob Duggar, who then waited more than a year before contacting police about what his then 15-year-old son admitting doing to five girls.

Nice how Jim Bob Duggar did the Christian thing and waited a year to report his son's molestations to the police. Wonder what Christ would think about these people? Sheesh.

You beat me to it, Marylander! (I was too busy drooling posting the thread on Matthew Lewis.) A tweet I saw with a link to another article that's probably not worth linking to says: #DuggarFamilyValues Calling trans people child molesters while protecting an actual child molester in your own home

At least he molested girls not boys... that's more normal and less sinful, isn't it?

(btw I've noticed some of yinz have issues with sarcasm, that wasn't a statement, that WAS sarcasm)

Here's one solution I've seen and used on occasion: add "/end sarcasm" at the end of the statement. It's a quick and easy way to signal tone, which can be hard to convey in writing.

If that GIF of Mr. Cosby isn't meant to be ironic, I don't know you as well as I think I do. "At least they're adults -- even if he drugged them before raping them so they couldn't get away from him."

it's about hypocrite feeling better than everybody else while fully enjoying the benefits of "getting away" with it.

The sarcasm note wasn't directed to anybody in specific, and I never thought it would be quoted.

I always had mixed feeling about the Duggar family because there was a nice very large family in our neighborhood growing up. Way too many children, but the kids seems to accept it without much trouble.

But Jim Bob Duggar is pond scum. Waiting a year before doing anything is contemptable. Although we should be happy that he finally reported his son. (Be thankful for small favors!).

There's even more to this story...ALLEGEDLY, if I'm understanding the chronology, the situation first came to light in 2006 when the family was in Chicago and literally about to tape an Oprah episode. Reports have said that the show was tipped off by a family friend who had accidentally come upon a written account that was left in a book lent to her by family members. When the Oprah show producers got word, they immediately passed it on to authorities who, until that point, had no prior knowledge. Turns out that the "program" Josh was sent to by the church elders and his father was nothing more than staying with a family friend for 3 months and working with him on his remodeling business. When he returned home after several months away, Daddy took him for a stern talking to by an Arkansas trooper for a "scared straight" session - beyond ironic is the fact that that trooper eventually went to and remains in jail on child porn charges. So now we have a 16 year old committing multiple sexual offenses, some described as felonies, on 4 sisters and one outsider, no report is made, and only the church leaders and parents of the offender are aware. It remains unclear whether the non-family member's family was told. What is now being referred t as "Josh's confession" came only after one of his sisters reported the incident. The subsequent "confessions" came only after the Oprah show called it in and authorities became involved, albeit too late given the statute of limitations. But here's the final rub, and I'm pretty sure I'm correct in this: Oprah is in partnership with Discovery Communcations, who in turn is the owner of TLC. If that's the case, then even though Oprah's producers pulled the plug on the Duggar appearance and called in a report, the fact that they are allowed to remain on the air when one of the major executives of the parent company, Oprah Winfrey, had knowledge of this since 2006, remains rather troubling and not especially "Oprah like".

The 27-year-old Duggar, a high-profile member of the evangelical Christian family that stars on TLC’s “19 Kids and Counting,” also resigned his post with the Family Research Council, a conservative lobbying organization.

“Twelve years ago, as a young teenager, I acted inexcusably for which I am extremely sorry and deeply regret,” Duggar said in a statement posted on Facebook on Thursday. “I hurt others, including my family and close friends. I confessed this to my parents who took several steps to help me address the situation.

“We spoke with the authorities where I confessed my wrongdoing, and my parents arranged for me and those affected by my actions to receive counseling. I understood that if I continued down this wrong road that I would end up ruining my life.”

Btw, because of the status of limitation this creature is and will be out on the street pointing his fingers at us and others.

don't you love the "teenage indiscretion" bit. No! that is NOT a teenage indiscretion!! a teenage indiscretion is stealing your dads beer and having a party with your friends and get busted by the police or something.

It does make me so furious on the rug sweeping over this. He should be locked up.. and no doubt killed when the general prison population finds out he's a pedophile.

But.. but but but.. I am sure payoffs happened, explained it away by saying oh we will pray for him and make sure this sin and demon goes away. etc etc etc.

such hypocrisy, do what I say not as I do.

I wonder how many MORE children he molested while working for and with the power and authority of this.. Family Research Council.

sorry for the disjointed rambling. my brain is exploding in 50 different ways in sheer hate? anger? outrage? that I cant seem to put coherent sentences down :p

Even the tone of the "apology" is selfish. I understood that if I continued down this wrong road that I would end up ruining my life. No mention of speaking to the victims. No words of concern for the well being of the victims. No mention of feeling that he now has these impulses under control. Self serving, keep my show on the air spin. He will probably have a spin off 5 Underage Kids and Counting.

Specially considering Oprah was a sexually molested years ago and I don't think "exposing" the real Duggars would have cut off on her huge audience among evangelical Christians...

I just wonder if the girls he molested (if fingered) can still call themselves virgins on the wedding night, sounds like a joke but that's the way that family (and millions) think about this issue.

It also makes me wonder how many of his brothers and sisters he has molested. The older children have to take care of the younger children while mama is on bed rest from popping out her own army. (the movie idiotcracy comes to mind)

Strom Thurmond's friends called having a mulatto daughter with a 16 y/o black maid a teenage indiscretion... He was 22...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strom_Thurmond

"First daughter

Six months after Thurmond's death, Essie Mae Washington-Williams publicly revealed that she was his daughter. She identified as African American, was married and had a family; she was a retired Los Angeles Unified School District elementary school teacher with a master's degree. She was born on October 12, 1925, to Carrie "Tunch" Butler (1909–1948), who had worked for Thurmond's parents and was 16 years old when Thurmond, then 22, impregnated her. Though Thurmond never publicly acknowledged Washington-Williams while he was alive, he helped pay her way through a historically black college in South Carolina and continued to give her financial support well into her adult life.Washington-Williams said that she did not reveal she was Thurmond's daughter during his lifetime because it "wasn't to the advantage of either one of us". She kept silent out of respect for her father[9] and denied that the two had agreed that she would not reveal her connection to him.

After Washington-Williams came forward, the Thurmond family publicly acknowledged her parentage. Her name has been added to that of his other children on a monument to Thurmond installed at the statehouse grounds. Many close friends, staff members, and South Carolina residents had long suspected that Washington-Williams was Thurmond's daughter, as they had noted his interest in her. The young woman had been granted a degree of access to Thurmond more typical of a family member than to a member of the public.

Washington-Williams later joined the Daughters of the American Revolution and the United Daughters of the Confederacy, as she was eligible through her Thurmond ancestry. Thurmond was a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, a similar group for men. She encouraged other African Americans to learn their ancestry and join the lineage associations, to promote a wider sense of American history, including its long history of interracial families."

Washington-Williams died on February 4, 2013, in Columbia, South Carolina, at age 87.[38]

Tee hee. Buh-bye, Duggars.

God, I hope so, Chris. To my considerable regret, the Duggars don't feature on TV here (as far as I know), so I only know of them from here, HuffPost Gay and Dan Savage's tweets, but I think I get the picture from those sources!

The Christian Patriarchy Movement, which these Duggar creeps exemplify, is fundamentally racist. It's all about white supremacists breeding as fast and often as possible to try to counteract the demographic change of the population. TLC should be ashamed of putting this white supremacist crap on TV for the last seven years.

isn't that the thing they keep saying something a quiverfull or something?

I do feel bad for the kids, no matter how they try to spin it, the oldest down to the youngest have to pretty much babysit, homeschool, and be a full time parent to their own siblings, because the mother is to sick, weary or drained, and has to stay in bed. I saw one episode.. my first ever, the mother could barely remember all of her children's names.

She keeps the babies until they are weaned, then its up to the children to care for it while she gets pregnant again.

she has been quoted that she does not feel fulfilled or content unless she has a baby in her. It is not going to be pretty when she hits menopause.

It is said the Duggars do not get public assistance, but it was mentioned that they are considered a church? and get about 66k in child tax credits.? Ill have to look that up.

That the 14 year old daughter has to cook for 20+ people, sure she says she enjoys it.. but you do have to wonder about a lost childhood.

My Father was one of 16 brothers and sisters. He lived on a big farm in upper New York. He once told me, he started to resent his mother and father for having so many children, because him and his siblings had to do all the raising, rearing, teaching, etc.

Michelle Duggar's hair-do (hair-don't?) is pretty much a give-away that she's a whack-job. But, yeah, Quiverfull is another name for this gross white-supremacy movement. Michelle and Jim-Bob should be arrested for child endangerment, having covered up for the kid at the time and then putting ALL OF THEM at risk by signing on to a "reality" TV show while knowing there was a secret sex-scandal they covered up. Criminals.

Sorry, the following is a little political, but it's relevant. From my Twitter feed:

Did you know Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders are the only people running for President that did not take a picture with Josh Duggar? - Political Nerd, @Sttbs73

Some more about Quiverfull, also from Twitter:

Your periodic reminder that the Duggar family is part of the Quiverfull movement, a deeply misogynist, quasi-Christian cult.

They're not just a big, Christian family. They're part of a movement to breed a generation of soldiers for Christ to outman unbelievers.

That's why the glib "vagina like a clown car" jokes bother me so much. There's no shame in mothering a large, religious family.

There is a big problem, however, when mothering a large family is made your only option by a patriarchal cult.

The girls are kept ignorant and their sexuality is controlled by their fathers. That's what TLC has been making money off of. [To which I snarkily replied, "And their sexuality is exploited by their brother.]

And people are worried about Sharia law...

All these people worked up over sharia law but no one wants to talk about the child sexual and physical abuse in the Xian homeschool mvmnt.

Ridley, @_ridley_

And this: The Duggars use Bill Gothard's Advanced Training Institute for homeschooling. This is how sexual abuse is approached: https://twitter.com/SarahEvonne/status/601838249959620608/photo/1

Basically, lie back and think of England because the character-building that results is God's will. (Not that dissimilar to what goes in GoT.)
