I think the top two markets are NYC and LA. I'm thinking SF/Bay area is #3. But maybe it's DC? This older thread mentions rentboy's 'diamond' ads in it's top markets:

http://m4m-forum.org/threads/most-of-the-big-name-cities-in-the-us-just-seem-so-over-rated.94461/

» Manhattan » Boston

» Los Angeles » San Francisco

» Miami » Ft. Lauderdale

» Chicago » Washington DC

» Las Vegas » Atlanta

That seems like a pretty likely list although Atlanta is a bit of a surprise.

Anyone know which cities have the most Daddy's reviews?

Maybe it's because I live here and I'm bored with it, but, for the gay mecca it's reputed to be, the escort scene in San Francisco is not very dynamic. No doubt, we have our share of desirable men, but nothing like New York or LA. But San Francisco has always been that way, exciting, but also a little homely, a little dowdy. Not like it's flashy big sister in the Southland.

And some of your best and brightest have fled Baghdad by the Bay for the Sands of Palm Springs.

San Francisco is very expensive and gay men are everywhere... it's pretty much becoming like Palm Springs (God's waiting room) a place where old gay men just fuck each other for free and every now and then hire an escort. I'm sure there's also a vibrant young gay community, but they're usually into each other and not into older men.

That's what they do. They turn 40 and head for Palm Springs. I've never been there. I keep telling myself I'm going to go there one of these cold Januaries, but it doesn't interest me that much. I'd rather spend a weekend in Sonoma.

This post is titled "What are the top cities/markets for Escorts?" but maybe it should be "What are the top cities/markets for Clients?

In NYC, for example, there are hundreds of options, which is great for clients, but I'm guessing that it is a very difficult market for escorts, who have way too much competition, and difficultly trying to stand out.

Rudymate, I truly concur with your perception. I live about 1.45 to 2 hrs. on the coast, south of San Francisco and have been visiting one of my favorite cities for over 40+ years. For fifteen years now, I have been seeing escorts and have found that the scene in San Francisco has become a tad bit limited as contrasted with both New York City and Los Angeles. All of the ads at http://www.rentboy.com, http://www.rentmen.com, and http://www.men4rentnow.com prove that! I cringe when I peruse the ads at the latter two cities: all of that lush availability, and I am not there to indulge!!!! :p:p:p

It's true. There are only a few advertisers in San Francisco that I find very interesting. I'm going to LA next week. I have time for one hire, and I had trouble deciding who, because there are so many great guys to choose from. I also wonder whether San Francisco is a very lucrative stop for visiting escorts, because not that many visit here. They come here for special occasions like Pride Week and the Folsom St. Fair, but otherwise not so much.

I suspect it's a weird market for escorting. It isn't for lack of money. Money has been flowing in the streets here for the last 18 mos. or so. Residential real estate is beginning to appreciate like crazy again.

NYC is great for escorts. The large number of escorts reflect the vitality of the market and the high demand.

I think the two most conspicuous cities missing from the list of top cities are Dallas and Houston. With all the money there you'd think there would be more of a market in Texas. But from comments I've seen on this board, I guessing the market there isn't so big or maybe it's more underground.

Well, you know what they say about New York: "If I can make it there, I'd make it anywhere." Kevin, you strike me as a man with sharp business acumen. You'd most likely have great success as an escort (or any other field) in any market of your choosing. But I wonder if a young buck with no experience and little to no business sense would find NYC as good a market as it has been for you. When you search "Manhattan NY" on Rentboy, almost 500 listings come up, and that's not including the several dozen for surrounding locales (Brooklyn, Queens, Bronx, Jersey City, etc.). I have to think that a novice would have a very tough time finding his niche and marketing himself right in a city with so much competition.

nola was great!(2007-2011 for me) ATL is most underated ! Houston is full of very NICE clients and is the most underserved good market. DC is in flux and rapidly changing. For me now Dc is very streaky..... few busy days and a few dead days. The good clients here are amazing but dealing with the flakes, fools and frauds is almost a full time chore! lol @ www.rentmen.com/mikeyusatop

From a client's POV, New Orleans is something of a disappointment. Atlanta has 58 ads on Rentboy. NOLA has 14. On Rentboy, Atlanta has 28 and NOLA has five. On Men4rentnow.com, Atlanta has 59 ads and NOLA has 15.

For a city that has so many visitors and is well-regarded as a party town for good reason, I just find that limited number of choices very surprising.

I'm not above complaining that I live in an escort wasteland but, on the other hand, the embarrassment of riches in NYC is only two hours away. And those riches include not only permanent residents but a steady stream of visitors (some of whom return at least once a year, if not more often). So with that perspective in mind, what am I doing complaining ... ever?

In the category of The Grass Is Always Greener ... I left San Francisco in 1985 and 30 years later I still pine for it. Visiting isn't the same as living there; I don't like feeling like an outsider in a place I once called home. I wonder what my TINY 1-bedroom apartment on Russian Hill (with a broad view of the Bay) rents for now ... in 1985, it was the equivalent of a two-hour session at today's rates ($500) ... I bet it's now the equivalent of a weekend.

Oh, don't get me wrong. I was just complaining about the escort scene here. Otherwise I love this town. I may move to the country in ten years or so, but I will always keep my house in San Francisco. I imagine I will spend the rest of my life in Northern California. I think it's the center of the known universe.

It's pretty great ... and I feel a giant PANG of jealousy as I read that!

My last trip back (a year ago this month) did involve one of my best escort experiences ever, a memorable evening in bed and on the floor in a room at the W ... ahhh ... [cue Tony Bennett] ...
