I wish I could tell you more but I must have the proverbial legal stuff done and it's zillions of pages that must be filled with no errors, ID's galore and lots of phone calls back to the USA, working long hours trying to get it all done and of course the rehearsals are really tiring which explains some of the the screw ups this week. But its a lot of balls to juggle. (That's the comedy relief in this really horrible scenario.)

I was hoping to have things rolling by this evening, but there is an awful truth about the boys here tha is being kept a secret for some reason.

Anyway, I am hoping that this project will be fun for all, but will help to support not only this site but also help bring some of these guys out of the pits that people insist on keeping them in for what I suspect is their own selfish reasons.

Once I get all the right guys lined up, I will publish the awful truth about the sauna boys in Brazil.

It may not work because not all of them are very smart and from what I read they enjoy making $18 dollars an hour to service Ameicans and the local elite - and are sometimes lucky to get three customers a day.

And for the cynicis who will most likely make up their own tales that I'm simply taking advantge of the boys in order to perpetuate this 1800's Southern USA mentality, I'll let you know up front that the MAJORITY of the money that will be generated by the boys will go to the boys.

Sorry, I do not buy that they are happy with be being treated like second class vermin and if I can help them better their lot in life I am going to do so. Certainly I am running into many boys who because of their past treatment are highly suspicious of my coming in and they would rather steal my stuff than think long term, but they'll be selling my things on Paulista avenue while begging for coins in the next ten years. And material things are nowhere as important to me as the people here -- some of the most beautiful, kindest, warmest people I have ever encountered.

They are the most perfect boys. I hope you can work out the legal matters so that we can enjoy viewing these sweet boys.

Forgive me for saying so, but I suspect that in doing so you will also be publishing the awful truth about about some of us here as well.

I hope this doesn't get ugly.

Can someone explain what is going on here? The daily review of escorts seems to have become caught up in the "Brazilian adventure". There haven't been reviews for 2 days now , only a message from Hooboy that contains some disturbing allegations about the sauna boys in Rio. What gives?

Posted

To clarify my part of the post. HooBoy has posted on the main escort page (Newest Reviews) that he will soon launch what appears to be a live show site or in affiliation with another site. The shows will be broadcast from Brazil. The first model he used in the ad was very hot and I wanted to know more details.

Then HooBoy replied and apparently there are some people in the area that do not want to see him succeed possibly because HB is providing a better income for some of these guys than they can make elsewhere.

HooBoy also mentioned in his post here and on another part of this site that while in Rio one of the hot young guys he hired left with a few of his personal items. It didn't sound like it was part of his fee so HB was expressing his frustration.

And the beat goes on :).

Well, this should be interesting~

Aside from major catfights starting on this MC, clearing the air about how hard the boys of Brazil work & what they actually get paid will be a nice topic to bring to light.

My time spent in Sao Paulo only proved to me that these guys deserve so much more and often times the disservice is done at the hands of the visiting. With no fingers being pointed here, it's a shame that these goodlooking, intelligent and warm human beings are being treated as nothing more than 'the lowest possible bid.'

Let's not forget that people are still people. Not objects. Mutual respect should always win out over slave mentality...

Warmest Always,

Benjamin, please consult the archives of the "South of the US " site; some months back there was a really extensive debate (along with a lot of tit-for-tatting) regarding the topic that you alluded to in your response here. I am in complete agreement with you; treat others as you wish to be treated. The same goes in the "respect" department.

Have patience.

If the guy Hooboy featured during the beta test Daddy and I participated in is any indication it'll be worth the wait. }(

Why would you say that Hoover if you had not done something you know is or was wrong?

It is a rhetorical question on my part, please do not defend yourself or allow it to start a war here. Your statment pretty much stands on its own with no further explanation.

I do not intend to name names, I just want the readers here to know what the real story about Brazil and the saunas and all the stuff I read and see is.

It makes me cry -- but I cried during "Sound of Music", too.

"So," you think? A needle pulling thread.

From one day to the next I want to leave this place never to return, but I know in my heart of hearts I am doing a good thing and by god I will stick it out until my 90 stay day is over or I disappear into the cane fields.

Certainly this has taken up much more time than I ever imagined and resulted in the lack of timely reviews. Frankly, I am not really far behind and this will ultimately be far more interesting reading than "he's not a clock watcher" and "I can't reveal what really went on, use your imagination" reviews.

But I will get back on track and the publishing deadline will be met. As you could probably tell, Bruno Gaucho visited me last night and...he is a hard sell.

It occurred to me that I am doing is very much like what people who are responsible for boy bands do. Dealing with young, ceonceited, goodlookikng guys, with massive ego, questionable self esteem, sometime talent, pride and I have to show them respect and be a friend and sometimes a father. For those who can't wait for the daily review, there is always gay.com for free sex and if you click on the flirt for free link on this website -- it is fun. And it is free.

But if you please give me a chance, I think we may have something else to add to our community arsenal - the Hoo-Theater for Permorming Arts. Or as we are working on...Carnegie Hoo...

Hopefully things will calm down here and I may soon even be allowed to carry a bullet in my pocket again.

my new sig: Garbo (greta sounded too nellie for me.)

Nah, I alway thought you were "re" a golden drop of sun! You're the best HB and I'm looking forward to participating in your new feature.

No further comment, except to respect your time and efforts and you can only do that by as Garbo expressed "I vant to be alone!" :)

Dear VaHawk,

When your hotel room is filled with beautiful guys -- some you have known intimately for a couple of years and the next day you discover that several thousand US dollars, expensive technical equipment (no computers, thank god), brand new clothes, even if they were bought on sale, have been stolen

you vant to be alone:*

PS: I got a collect phone call from your God. He said either buy a bigger safe or fewer sale items. Then he had the audacity to shake his belly like a bowl full of jelly and my hotel mini-fridge had been emptied by my guests, so I could not even enjoy a $5.50 coke.

Well, the details of what's happened to HooBoy are sketchy enough that I can't comment on his particular situation, but I do want to say a few things about what seems to have been implied (if I misunderstood the thrust of these postings, my apologies).

In Brazil, as anywhere else, escorts and sauna boys come in all flavors, sizes and types. Most of them are good guys, a few are cynical and hard, and a very small number are outright con artists or crooks. It's not always easy to tell who's who, especially when you're new to the country and culture, and when you don't speak the language (or don't speak it well).

Inevitably, there will be the occasional rip-off, and I'm sorry to hear that it's happened to our esteemed HooBoy, himself! But it's one of the things that occasionally happen. That's why, in the Escorts South board, "old Brazil hands" like yours truly urge so strongly that you not invite guys to your hotel or apartment, unless you know them very well and are confident that they're honest. (And even then, the occasional mistake occurs!) Keeping your activities within the confines of a sauna or one of the "motels" (hotels-by-the-hour in Brazil) reduces the chances of something bad happenng.

There's no need to rehash in detail the threads about exploitation and over/underpayment on the Escorts South board. Suffice it to say that being a sex worker isn't a particularly easy job, but at least in Brazil most of the guys aren't being exploited. They choose this line of work (sometimes out of desperation, it's true) and they're not obliged to stay in it if they don't want to. The guys work for themselves, by and large, so they're free to cease and desist if they want to stop. They're not bound to the owners of the saunas or the agencies, the way women sex workers often are.

Paywise, the guys do OK if they're any good at what they do. With rare exceptions, the guys who work at the agencies or saunas are from working class or lower-middle-class families. They usually have little education and not much in the way of marketable job skills. Because of the bad (although starting-to-improve) economy, unemployment in Brazil is high and among young unskilled men it's VERY high. When a young person can find a job, it's likely to be at minimum wage, or not much more. Currently that's about R$250 -300/mo. (depending on the city and state). Good middle-class salaries run from about R$1500 to R$3000 a month. So in terms of the local economy, R$50 is more than loose change. It's real money. Consider that bus/metro fare runs around R$1.50 - 1.70, that you can get good inexpensive meals for less than R$5 at working-class eateries, and rent in the less-deluxe parts of town can be less than R$200 (and most of the sauna guys who don't live with their families share a small apartment with several other guys to keep the costs down). If a guy is any good at being an escort, chances are he'll have at least 2 or 3 clients a week, at a minimum, so that's R$150 a week, or nearly R$600 a month. (By comparison, that's what a public schoolteacher in Florianopolis earns per month!) Many of the guys make more than that, sometimes considerably more. And at least some of them have day jobs, too.

So, taking this information into consideration, I hope you can put the economic situation of the escorts/sauna guys in Brazil into perspective. Few of them will get rich doing this, but most of them will make enough to support themselves fairly well and still have extra money to send to their families, or to save to eventually open a business or buy a house of their own. More than a few guys in Brazil have gotten their starts in life escorting; once they made enough to reach their goals, they moved on to more "respectable" trades.

And finally, for the most part I don't find foreign visitors "exploiting" the guys by trying to bargain them down, etc. Usually they pay the asking price, and some grossly overpay, in spite of suggestions that they stick with the local fair market rate! Of course, there's the occasional bad foreign apple who stiffs the guys, or does other bad things, but those seem to be the exception rather than the rule. Also, most of the foreign visitors treat the guys well, inviting them to dinner at nice restaurants, and buying them presents, so on the whole the guys like going with foreign visitors because they tend to get treated better than they do at the hands of local Brazilian clients.

OK, I went on for longer than I intended. If this topic interests you, there's more on Escorts South if you search on "overpay" or terms like that! Meanwhile, I wish HooBoy every success and that his bad experience won't be repeated!

When In Rome, do as the Romans?

Tri,

I paid the going rate after my first day in Rio. My first day there I was like fresh meat and the boys asked for more than the regular rate. Being new, I paid that. I was also chewed a new asshole by a few for paying the price I did as they wanted to keep the same price in effect for all boys. After my first day, I was a bit more experienced and when I went with a sauna boy, I always paid what the going rate was, which is 50R. But, to be honest, in my heart of heart, I can not pay someone only 17.50US for an hour of good performance. I always tipped. I was one of the foreign guys who went overboard. Often I tipped in US and often it was for $100US. I always made it clear that the tip was for being so nice in the room and I always paid the 50R first so as they didn't get confused by the two.

I was chastised and berated by several who were upset at me and told me that a tip of 10R or 3US was more than enough. I had just soon jump off a bridge as to tip anyone 3 or 4US for what I was getting. I know the boys would not have been insulted, but I would not have been able to live with myself.

I love Rio and Sao Paulo and I met a lot of great boys on my trip. I treated everyone I invited into my hotel room with respect and they did likewise to me. I didn't like the way I saw a lot of the boys in the saunas were treated by men: either local or US.

I took one boy who was with me on a shopping spree. When he was able to buy shoes that he said he had wanted everyday for years and could never afford and I saw his face light up, I was happy and it was well worth the money for me. A pair of pants for 800R wasn't a problem either. But, he gave me something even more. He had a key to my hotel room and could come and go as he pleased. I trusted him totally and registered him at the hotel with us. My trust in him was retuned to me tenfold. His rate per day was 10 times what most locals would have paid. But, when he asked for that for 24 hours of his time, I said yes and kept him for a week. No regrets on my part. Any tip I gave him beyond that was a gift that he most definitely deserved for making my trip to Brazil one I will never forget.

I guess I digress. But, suffice to say, I loved my trip to Brazil. I received tons of valuable information from the South of the USA forum. I learned a lot on my trip from the guys I met from all over the world. But, my trip was made by the beautiful guys I met (on the outside and inside). To pay someone that made my trip so wonderful only $17.50 is just not something I am capable of.

I guess I won't be going to Rome anytime soon. :) But, I do plan on a few more trip to Brazil. What an amazing place!

So I would hope that you tipped the guy cooking your meal who was earning about 10R at least $100.us or the taxi driver at least $100. us as well. Can you live with yourself accepting a great meal or a smooth ride for about $2.00us?

Why do people feel guilty about paying the fair market value for anything in any city? It makes no sense to go so far overboard, in my opinion, as you did.

I have travelled with Oz on numerous occasions and have observed him in resaurants, bars, clubs and taxis. He is one of the most generous men I have encountered. The wait staff, drivers, etc are always very pleased with the way he treats them and they remember him the next time. You may not agree with his style but he treats everyone well not just the few.

RE: When In Rome, do as the Romans?

I don't know Oz personally so cannot comment on how he comes across to those who provide him services, sexual and otherwise. But it appears he throws money around wildly in excess of what others do in similar circumstances. This leads me to ask why he does so. He says he does it because of the pleasure the service providers give him. I don't doubt that.

But I wonder what effect this has on those same young men who then move on to other clients when Oz is gone. Are they still satisfied with 50R for a session that Oz paid 350R for? (tip included). Or do they start to resent the obvious disparity? And does this resentment start to reflect itself in how they treat their other clients?

Is this why "regular" or local clients may resent the appearance of foreigners who appear on the scene with big bucks and command the services of the same guys they are clients of? I don't know the answers to these questions. Maybe it's of no consequence. But I suspect that if there were more than one Oz acting the same way, it wouldn't take long before these kinds of resentments would appear.
