For those of use who know and love him, David is one of the most amazing dog lovers in the world. Sadly today, he had to make the horrible decision to say goodbye to his beloved Bob after 15 years. The outpouring of love for David among his friends on Facebook is inspiring. I would ask that those who know him and even those who don't keep him in your thoughts and prayers now as he goes through this difficult time. At a time like this, i'm always reminded of that special poem, The Rainbow Bridge.

A Dog's Prayer

Treat me kindly, my beloved master, for no heart in all the world is more grateful for kindness than the loving heart of me.

Do not break my spirit with a stick, for though I should lick your hand between the blows, your patience and understanding will more quickly teach me the things you would have me do.

Speak to me often, for your voice is the world's sweetest music, as you must know by the fierce wagging of my tail when your footstep falls upon my waiting ear.

When it is cold and wet, please take me inside... for I am now a domesticated animal, no longer used to bitter elements... and I ask no greater glory than the privilege of sitting at your feet beside the hearth... though had you no home, I would rather follow you through ice and snow than rest upon the softest pillow in the warmest home in all the land... for you are my god... and I am your devoted worshiper.

Keep my pan filled with fresh water, for although I should not reproach you were it dry, I cannot tell you when I suffer thirst. Feed me clean food, that I may stay well, to romp and play and do your bidding, to walk by your side, and stand ready, willing and able to protect you with my life, should your life be in danger.

And, beloved master, should the Great Master see fit to deprive me of my health or sight, do not turn me away from you. Rather hold me gently in your arms as skilled hands grant me the merciful boon of eternal rest...and I will leave you knowing with the last breath I drew, my fate was ever safest in your hands.

A Poem by Robison Jeffers about losing his English Bulldog, named Haig

In my life, I have grieved over many pets. I always found the posted poem, "The House Dog's Grave", by Robison Jeffers published in 1941 to be a source of comfort during the loss of a pet and invariably brings tears to my eyes. Jeffers wrote the poem from the dog's perspective. I hope it comforts David-sf at this time as he grieves for his dog.

Here is a website with the poem: http://www.petloss.com/poems/maingrp/housedog.htm .

Long ago, David made a lovely post on this forum when his friend Tom Isern lost a beloved pet. Having met both men--and Tom's current pup--I can only say that being a dog-lover (or any sort of animal lover) is a quality I admire and share. If David has meant something to you, as he has to me, it's impossible not to feel for him at this difficult time. I'm just very glad for him that he has had the years he's had with Bob.

Very sad to hear of David's loss. Whenever, I hear of the loss of a pet, I recall Jimmy Stewart appearing on the Johnny Carson Tonight Show reading a poem about his dog Beau. I remember the original broadcast thirty plus years ago. To me, nothing sums up the relationship between humans and canines better than this poem.

David - so sorry about your loss. As a cat owner who was, about 4 years ago, faced with the decision to let my suddenly-ill cat go off to her permanent rest, I know how you must feel. And though I give my new cat all the love I can, I still miss her. Time does heal, though. And I know you must have many, many wonderful memories to keep you warm.

I've only known a few so close to their beloved pet as you...

To you, my Dear Master David.

I am so sorry and my heart goes out to you for your immense loss. My eyes welled and that ugly sense of despair was too much at the horrible news I received this morning. My thoughts have been with you since. I sadly know what you're going through and offer my bleeding heart to comfort your pain. There are brighter days ahead and while Bob is no longer next to you, you'll find it's how loved and cherished you are by those we call our friends wi fill those voices by the interim. You'll cherish for times when he comes back to check in on you and you'll dream for years to come about him. Cherish those moments and remember all great this of Bob. All I can offer is my shoulder to cry on and my ears to listen should you want them. Know that despite our differences, I understand the power that these critters have on our lives and the devastation that can be left behind. Be glad that you were blessed to have met such a force in the world as great as, Bob. Many will never experience that and sadly, many will only hear of such inspiring emotions through the tears of other fellow pet lovers. Bob was more to you than we are all as one.

We are a special group.

Bob's absence will be felt for many years to come and the world is truely a tad bit darker and a tad bit liter. His vibrant life for shall never end and shall never go unspoken, not as long as we all keep these loved ones in out minds and dreams. It is their legacy; to live again in the endless depths of our minds and expressed through our very hearts. I was blessed several times to meet him and knew of the very special friend d that you had and will still have till you take that last breathe to depart this world and be rejoined, yet again when each of is crossed over the great divide of mystery and into our ultimate destiny's...

..where or wherever, if anything they shall be... I owe you a big bear bug, old friend. And one for Bob as well along with warm slobbery greetings and salutations from my little Buster. He will watch over your Bob till you return so chin up, because each day, believe it or not does get easier. You're never alone and please, take care of yourself and don''t get too swallowed up into the darkness ahead. Let us be your lighthouses to the safer and brighter shores ahead but this turbulent lake of emotions you must travel and through the travel, you will come out a better man.

Till next time, old friend. They're watching over us as we speak as they always have with or without our knowledge. xoxo

P.S. Everyone grab your friends, family, loved ones and pets a little closer tonight and hug them that split second longer because at a moments notice life does and will change and sometimes, goes the ones we care the most about and wonder if we can life without. Say one more "I love you" than you did the day before and never regret what amount of time you have with one another because there is no such thing as too much time.

To, Bob: <respectfully tip of my hat> a wink, a nudge and a scratch under your chin. You were a very special dog behind all that charm. Your Daddy will miss you but rejoined, yes, one day you 'll be. Be well, old friend and watch over your master while we watch over him. xoxo

Beautiful thoughts to and from 2 wonderful men. It is amazing how the loss of pets transcends everything and brings friends closer.

A profound thank you

WOW!!!!

first and foremost I need to warn you I am very sentimental at this time my emotions rising to the top.

Earlier today I was directed here by a friend and feel so grateful and compelled to send my heartfelt thanks for all the wonderful posts.

You may or may not know that I was in complete financial ruin when I first appeared on Daddy's all those years ago.

I split my time with a dog walking business and did my escort business where I could.

There were many days when the rent didn't get paid and the meals were in short supply.

I had lots of help but still I needed to make my own way.

There are many reasons why I started escorting again in 2005 one very important reason was that I wanted to give my dog a better life.

Of course I wanted better for myself but Bob was my priority.

I owed him a huge debt and he deserved far better than he ever got from me even to this day.

So the idea that the Daddys reviews website giving me my start is not lost on me and never will be.

I will be forever grateful to so many along the way that have sang my praises and given me the chance to shine and also allowed me to fall flat and make mistakes.

If not for so many of you, who knows what my life would be like today ......

One thing I know for a fact is My beloved child, my hero, my teacher, my angel, my messenger..... my sweet sweet old boy Bob lived a life beyond anything I could have imagined for him

mainly because I was given a successful and loved fill life and all of that began right here......

For better for worse for all of it and I dont come here for very often I am glad I did today.

I want to say Thank you , thank you with tears of my deepest gratitude for giving me the ability to give my dog a new life.

I will always be thankful for that.

David -- I am so glad you found out about the messages here. This will always be a home for you, even if you aren't here much. There are many of us here who love you and care for you. Your loss has hit us deeply. I know I have shed more than a few tears thinking of you and Bob in the last day. I intentionally did not post the picture you put on your announcement on fb because it ripped my heart apart as I knew it would others here. I could see the pain on your face.

There is no one here, no one, who has a bigger place in their heart for the pets who join us on our journey in life than you do. Your heart, your caring, giving nature is such an inspiration to me and to so many of us. You teach me constantly even though you don't know it. I just hope you know that we are always here for you. The outpouring of hundreds and hundreds of messages from friends from around the world yesterday was a testament to you and to Bob and the love that you had for each other. I hope the love that was flowing from those messages gave you some comfort in this difficult time. Be strong my friend. Lean on us if you need us. And know that you are not alone. Ever.
