Hey guys -- does anyone have any recommendations for museums/art galleries or anything else you can think of that might be interesting in Palm Springs?:cool:

Joshua Tree is actually a full-fledged National Park, no longer just a national monument, but it is more than a half day outing. Another outdoor adventure is to take the aerial tram straight up to the top of Mt. San Jacinto, 8000 ft above Palm Springs. The PS Art Museum is very good. The most popular visit in the valley now is Sunnylands, the Annenberg estate in Rancho Mirage, which was opened to the public last year; tickets to the house are very hard to get, but the gardens are free. And don't miss the giant statue of Marilyn Monroe downtown.

Pioneertown! (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pioneertown,_California) You can stop there on the way to Joshua Tree, and make a day out of both (time permitting).

Also Shields Date Garden in Indio has really delicious date shakes, and a goofy infofilm called "Romance and Sex Life of the Date." I'm not sure I'd go out of my way for the place but if you're over on that side of the valley it's worth a stop.

Xander -- another vote for the tram here. The ride up is spectacular, and there's easy, fun hiking at the top. Be sure to dress appropriately. It can be a WIDE temperature difference at the bottom and the top. I got pretty cold up there!

I also recommend the tram ride and Mt San Jacinto. However, if you suffer from a respiratory issue such as asthma be aware you might experience hyperventilation, due to the lack of oxygen in the air, until you acclimate.

very hard to get a ticket[/url] for the tour. Even connecting at the exact moment tickets first became available for the date we wanted didn't score us the time we wanted. The ticketed tours include the house, the outbuildings, and the extensive grounds.

Depending on the weather, it's possible that the summit will be snow-clad! Certainly Mt. San Gorgonio to the north will be snow-capped.

Very true! I was there in late May. And no snow right at the tram, but you could see it farther up!

The modern art museum, and taking the air tram to St. Gorgonio.

After that, just kill time at the pool.

That city is "God's waiting room".

Retired gay men there just do each other, I've heard is not good for business but you are red-haired and cute, who knows.

When I pulled the drapes on my bedroom window this morning, the mountain opposite was white as snow--because it WAS snow-covered. It's pretty, but I have been up to the top of the tram in winter when it was bitter cold and there was so much snow and ice on the observation decks that they were closed. Best to check with the tram for conditions before you go.

The tram actually goes to the top (well, really about 2000 ft below the very top) of San Jacinto. San Gorgonio, the highest mountain in southern CA, is the mountain you see in the far distance to the northwest of Palm Springs. It sometimes still has a snowcap in mid-summer, but has no tram.

There's allot of visitors at the gay resorts that are very horny for that very reason.

Love the Tram -- Especially when it was 90 Something at the Bottom and 60 Something at the Top === There could be a number of interpretations of that last part - But I was talking Farenheit
