DING, DING, DING! WE HAVE A WINNER

>It's a model, so it may not be an existing building.

>However, it looks like the work of Santiago Calatrava, who did

>the expansion of the Milwaukee museum and the Science City (?)

>in Valencia (Spain), among other major recent projects.

It's Calatrava's addition to the Milwaukee Art Museum. (Which, BTW, has surprisingly extensive post-1960 collections -- better than anything Chicago boasts.)

Wondering why you say it's a model? That's the building itself.

That sounds great & it's a beautiful building but I would only visit Milwaukee to see Schotz's Brewery. I want to find that glove that Laverne left on the beer bottle. :+

I could be wrong, but the photo looks like a computer-generated architectural model (the cars and people look like toys, not like real cars/people). I didn't recognize the Milwaukee museum from the photo. I've seen other picutres of the new expansion, but taken from a different angle (probably from the other side of the building) where it looked quite different.

Calatrava uses a lot of nautical-looking shapes (particularly sail-shaped ones) and bridge elements (like the suspension cables here). Makes sense in Milwaukee, where the museum is located on the edge of Lake Michigan. In general, his buildings seem to be very well-thought out and elegant.

Well, who knows these days. I'd agree the people/cars looks posed, but what throws me is the trees are in the right place -- there's a restaurant over there.

Here's a pic with the brise soleil stowed, and one at night. I do love this building.

Guest Fin Fang Foom

It looked like an airport terminal to me.

I know, I know, it's up against water but so is one runway at Laguardia.

Terminally yours,

Thanks Blue!:7

What a great building. It always surprises me when the boondocks outdo the major metropolitan areas.

Mr. Foom of course is referring to Saarinen's 1962 TWA terminal that must of provided some inspiration for the Milwaukee building. Don't you think?:
