I am so fucking tired of moving from city to city. I don't really like travelling and moving is almost as bad. I was fired from my job today, this is pretty common in my industry.

When I was younger moving every few years didn't really bother me all that much. Now that I'm older the entire situation is really stressing me out. Plus, I've been lucky enough to find work around Southern California the past 5 1/2 years ... it almost feels like home to me here.

To make the situation worse I am moving "down" in life not "up." I had been in the A market 3 of those 5 1/2 years now I will be working in a maybe B market. It isn't easy to get back once you fail so I guess I don't have a lot to look forward to employment wise.

I could look for a job in a different industry yet I really don't know much else.

Well, if I disappear for a while it's because I'm on the road to smalltown USA. Hmm I wonder is that where "John" lives :) .

OK, I know I am complaining a lot here and no one really cares. I just felt like venting and needed to SCREAM about my frustration somewhere ... sorry to put you through my psycho-drama :( .

Elvis Costello was wrong, Queen was right all along.

Yeah, Huey, good luck. I always think a change in your personal circumstances can open up new possibilities that would not present themselves if you stayed in the same old rut. So take heart, there may be something really exciting just around the corner (OK, call me Pollyana!):7

Huey,

Scream away. My experience with the guys on this board is that most of us are here for you man. While your post drops hints, you don't say what your field is, but I would guess broadcasting (A market, B market) If so, don't let the whimsical cycles of fickle ratings become "your failure". These types of environments related to entertainment are based so much on things that are not relative to us as individuals. If you gave your best professional effort, then you didn't fail, the taste of the audience failed. You will find a spot, I have no doubt. God watches over good hearted people and makes a way for them. Doesn't mean we won't have trials, but we come out ok at the end. You have demonstrated over and over that you are a good person at heart. As for moving, If it helps, I have saved all of my boxes from my move two weeks ago. I think you are in the L.A. area. If you are forced to relocate, I'll bring the packing crates and boxes over and help you pack. It'll be ok. Feel free to rant away anytime.

i'm a firm believer in "things happen for a reason" and generally that reason is a good thing. it's always much easier telling someone this then actually accepting it when it happens to me. but whenever i have just been able to acccept it it has always worked out for the best and i'm sure it will with you.

In a culture which rates people on income, job status and looks--pretty much in that order--it is hard to accept "failure" in any one of those three. Sometimes it's best to step outside the cultural frame and consider the other possible areas in which you could be evaluated. Do people like you and enjoy your company? Are you a good friend to others? Do you do something worthwhile for your community? Do you perceptively appreciate all the natural and manmade beauty around you? Are you at peace with your place in the universe (rather than in the workforce)? Try to focus away from your anxiety about A list/B list, big city/small town, and look at the opportunity to concentrate on other aspects of life for a while. You may find that your preoccupation with with what you do and where you live screens you from examining how and why you live.

Huey, I am so sorry to hear about this sorry turn for you.

Unfortunately some businesses have consolodated to the degree that there are only one or two companies to work in across the nation. And if some freaking idiot gets a burr under his saddle you may become a victim of his own insecurity.

That doesn't keep the Bekins van from your door.

It actually may be better to work in Podunk..., then again there are satellites..

Good luck.

Hey thanks to all who offered the kind words :) . I truly appreciate them and they did make my day go a bit easier. The more I think about what each of you wrote the more I feel it probably will turn into a better situation for me.

HooBoy you are right about the consolidation. I have worn out my welcome with Clear Channel & Infinity only one major left to go :( . I think I will save them for another time though as I've accepted a position in a smaller market.

Ok, I am feeling better ... thanks again guys you have no idea how happy you each made me feel :7 .
