Wonder what would have happened if JJ had just accepted the thread at face value, said thanks, and moved on.

I guess that would have been too easy.

I don't think this board displays odd hospitality at all. This board welcomes "new people" now more than ever before. But new people ain't trolls. There's a difference. The board would be far more hospitable if it didn't welcome and nurture trolls and their self-serving behavior.

The truth is, once you receive a "Time Out" or two (especially two or more) for personal attacks, your credibility as a legit poster is lost among many. Any idiot knows that's just the way the anonymous internet works. And once you've put your asshole-ness on public display, and then foam at the mouth with a smothering presence, guess what? You turn a lot of users off and away. No wonder Lucky was flooded with private emails.

This board is way too small and unmoderated to tolerate a persistent troll. And then you have those members who find the antics entertaining.

Go figure.

Well said RH! Happy 4th to You and Many more....

Just to irritate my friend Lucky for starting this insipidly puerile thread, here's another naked vintage boy with a flaccid cock, begging to be licked by a size queen.

Assumptions are made all the time on this board, and many of them are false, yet they're often stated as fact on this board, usually by trolls. But that doesn't stop people who engage in troll behavior from believing their falsehoods and throwing their slimy bullshit at a wall to see if it sticks. Let's not forget that trolldom is a game primarily for the troll's entertainment.

Most long-time members know I have received more than one Time Out on this board, and two of those lasted a year each. Even though I was asked by a few members to create a new account with a new username to bypass the forced exit, a popular troll workaround, I refused. And Daddy can (almost) prove that fact, since my IP address did not change after my account was reinstated.

I agree, legit members can appear as though they engage in troll behavior because, on this board, you are permitted (by the owner) to hang out pretty close to the line of distinction. And early on in my membership I tangled with the owner of this board and his so-called moderators because I have a low tolerance for, well, a number of questionable business theories and applications.

I never called anyone in management an asshole, a cunt, or a lying, fucking wh*ore directly, but I sure came close. I did cross the "respect" line using critical words, nonetheless. I have my reasons for crossing the line at the time. I am guilty. And I always felt the honorable thing to do was to stay clear of the board until my Time Out had expired. I fully support doing the honorable thing most of the time. (I'm only human.)

Yes, some might argue that admin are people (members), too. It's true, they are. But I always hold admin to a higher standard, no matter what board I'm on. Therefore, I felt it necessary to challenge them openly and in public when actions belied explanations.

This trip down memory lane took place many years ago. I have long since moved on from trying to change this board in any way. I've learned to accept it for what it is.

If anyone believes I am a lying troll after reading this, then all I can say is I don't wish to control people's feelings. I don't have any compulsion to be liked by everyone. I have no interest in popularity contests. And I don't give a shit if you don't like me.

Happy 4th of July, everyone!

You and I RH have more than once shared a difference of opinion on a variety of subjects. I have read many times over the course of this last year your response to the detractors. I was then, as I am now, impressed with your ability to articulate a point...and I can only say, "Happy 4th to you"....

Those of us around long enuff have had at least 1 Time Out! Too bad alot of the Original Members who were around for RH and his knowledgeable Opinions are no longer contributing as of late! I did love his opinion on Exspensive Boxers!

But this is the Sandbox we are in NOW.. Sand Fleas and all! HAPPY 4th! ;)

I don't think it's accurate to talk about 'the board' in this context, as though there is one unified voice. Different members have their own view of what the message center should be like, and some are more vocal than others. I can think of several new posters in the past year who were criticized by older members for being too prolific, and other newer members were criticized for too much 'chit chat' or one-on-one conversations.

As for trolls...again, opinions differ as to what constitutes troll behavior.

The response of members to time-outs depends, IMO, on their prior opinion (like/dislike) of the person timed-out and their assessment of the reasons for the time out. Glutes seems to retain his followers.

As usual, an interesting, informative, and frank response from RH on this thread. This board could use alot more of his comments and a lot less from the member whose anniversary we are not celebrating.

As an aside, what exactly does one have to do to get banned for a year? Honestly, when I hear RH (previously) and glutes (currently) have suffered very extended time-outs for speaking the truth, it is a pretty sad comment on the state of this board. Yet others who exhibit substantially more caustic and nasty behaviour, seem to get away with it easily or receive only token short-term time-outs. What gives?? The decline in the value of the message board in the last approximate twelve and a quarter months has been astounding to say the least. I have never witnessed so many valued contributing members totally or mostly disappear in such a short period of time. I guess they are voting with their feet (well fingers).

Your long, rambling, thought provoking post DOESNT negate or mask the FACT that you are an OFFENDER and guilty of all the behaviors you so routinely speak against. So wear the Troll title proudly. You are basically Leona Helmsley reincarnated. :p

Oh My, we were all wondering when you would show up to sing your classic greatest hit ? You never disappoint and are always good for a laugh or 2. Speaking the truth ???? Truth in who's opinion ? Most of you wouldnt know truth if an escort shoved it up your asses. And to answer your question on time outs, why not address it to Daddy ? Or is your brain Not equipped to work in rational fashion ???

Yes, but there's nothing "odd" about that. That's human nature.

I can think of several new posters in the past year who were criticized by older members for being too prolific, and other newer members were criticized for too much 'chit chat' or one-on-one conversations.

Gay men are critical by nature. Show me a man with no opinion and I'll introduce you to a complete bore.

This board is small, so "style" of post can matter, especially if you post often. For instance, I agreed with Doug69's opinion on the histrionic hyperbole that appeared on some of the Palm Springs event threads. Not all gay men view the term "excitement" in the same manner. Some people like Rick's "Smart Ass" humor while others yawn and roll their eyes. These differences of opinion are perfectly healthy.

Most boards discourage Instant Message style posts. You still see a lot of those here even though the software offers an IM feature. Men get lazy.

With the addition of more members, some of these style issues wouldn't stand out as much as they do. I don't see an influx of new members anytime soon.

opinions differ as to what constitutes troll behavior.

Sort of like the opinions on moderation, censorship, Daddy's shutting a thread, the board "meltdowns," and Time Outs. There will always be unreasonable people in the crowd.

It's true, though, "troll" and "troll tolerance" is defined by the board owner. The buck stops at the top on this subject.

Glutes seems to retain his followers.

Not sure what constitutes a "follower." I read Glutes' posts but I don't "follow" him. I don't know why he is on Time Out. Did he personally attack another member? I don't spend enough time on this board to follow the minutia.

Not all Time Outs are equal. Just because someone receives a Time Out, it doesn't automatically mean the member is a troll. Glutes may be cantankerous but does any board member think that Glutes is a troll? Is Glutes known as a utilizer of multiple names? Let's not forget, that's permitted here. Is Glutes constantly in your face, like shit on a shoe?

Lack of consensus.

Can't argue with that.

The last part of this post is very distressing to read. Just when I found this site and so need it for advice, information, and education. What a loss to hear that I missed out on such a valuable resource for improving my life!

Don't worry too much about it. The same conversation has been going on for 15 years.

Funny how our prolific poster feels he now speaks on behalf of the board when, in fact, most of the members really dislike him. I do congratulate him on being well on his way to destroying the board which was his intent from the start. I called it out shortly after his arrival and he has not failed to disappoint. Serious discussions about escorts or real topics are mostly impossible now. It's such a shame really.

What I truly do not understand is the total ambivalence to this festering cancer (or shit on a shoe as RH mentioned) from management/mods/admin.

Using the IGNORE feature rather than trying to 'vote people off the island' seems much easier & less obtrusive, and would provoke fewer cat-fights. I think the animosity is more likely to turn off new members & more damaging to the board than a prolific poster.

It's true. I've only been posting for 7 years, and I find most issues discussed here get repeated quite often. The same is true on travel forums, and talk about cranky — the older posters there think they own the place simply because they answered the "best hotel in Rome" question a million times.

A famous but wise escort once advised me not to take this place so seriously. Eventually, I came around to take his advice.

what exactly does one have to do to get banned for a year?

Really piss-off the owner and/or his two minions. But I can only speak for myself.

when I hear RH...(has) suffered very extended time-outs for speaking the truth, it is a pretty sad comment on the state of this board.

Let's not go overboard and get all histrionic about it. Every man has his own "truth," and I didn't suffer at all during my Time Outs. During those years, I switched my attention to other fun (non escort) boards. They just don't cater to gay men like this board does, and I do enjoy the gay male perspective on life, sometimes.

It is not unusual for me to send a check to favorite board owners to demonstrate my support and appreciation for the work they do and their bandwidth expense. I'm a very forgiving guy in my non-anonymous life. But I never forget, and I never forget to recognize outstanding treatment and consideration.

Knowing what I know now, and if I had to do it all over again, I probably wouldn't test the limits the way I did. I admit I went too far, and I have apologized to Daddy for that. Now I apologize to the board. When I care about an idea, I tend to wear my passion on my sleeve. It's the nature of this Beatrice-bitch-beast.

What I truly do not understand is the total ambivalence to this festering cancer (or shit on a shoe as RH mentioned) from management/mods/admin.

I'm finding it easier to ignore the trolls, especially if someone sends me a red flag. As you know, with the "ignore" feature on, you still see the quotes.

The cancer I cannot tolerate is an escort's open contempt for his clients. And that cancer I referred to many years ago, the one that once infected this board, is currently in remission, and that's a good thing.

Nice attempt at being "fair and balanced" just like on the cable news shows, but while I've always read that people enjoyed my posts, I've never read anyone say they were bored. Perhaps you're getting me confused with yourself. :p

I don't really have anything to say about this thread but I needed a post to try and advance to the next color and this seemed the kind of thread in which it would go unnoticed. Have fun boys.

Thanks for your comment. I feel the "ignore" feature is highly overrated. It does not remove comments from the ignored when they are quoted by others.....which happens alot. Also it doesn't stop one from seeing a perfectly good thread taken over by a troll and diverted to the issue he chooses to focus on.

No-one is talking about voting someone off the island. I personally would like to see a much higher level of intolerance of troll behaviour(bullying)on Daddy's forum. Just read the responses that member we don't celebrate has given to 3-4 responders on this thread with whom he disagrees. Classic bully responses. Funny how we get all worked up about the bullying of gay students and bus monitors in schools, yet most folks seem willing to tolerate clear bully behaviour on this board. Seems like a double standard.
