Several escorts I've been with have offered me poppers, especially when I've fucked them; I've never accepted the offer - I've always been terrified of taking drugs, even aspirin! Am I really missing something? Do they really make an orgasm much keener? Any info and advice gratefully received!

Poppers have been around ever since I was a young guy, and yes I admit that when I was in my mid-twenties, that I did use them, as it did increase the feeling, especially when bottoming. However, back then you could get the really good stuff, not the crap they sell in bookstores and on the net these days. If you are an older man and/or you have high blood pressure or using viagra or have any kind of heart problems, I would strongly advise you to abstain from using them! If you are topping someone using them, believe me you are getting all that you need as you can smell the crap from Chicago to Detroit! http://jeeptalk.org/crack/smilies/contrib/corky/corkysm45.gif

If your partner wants to use poppers to get a better buzz, that's fine, but if you're satisfied with what you are feeling, then there is no need to do anything different. Never let someone else talk you into doing anything you are not keen on doing, whether drugs, sex or anything else. Sheesh!! sometimes I feel as if I could write a book, but I have never forgotten the time I saw a young man (27 yo only) drop dead of a heart attack on the dance floor next to me after taking a big snort of poppers! Needless to say, that shut down that club for the rest of the night and for several days afterward. http://smilies.networkessence.net/s/ups/archinto/smile2.gif

sobering thoughts. but wasn't the medical use of poppers some kind of treatment for angina. i think they were called snappers. they would come in a metal tin of 12. small capsules wrapped in a yellow mesh. friends used to replace the inhalant sponge from a vick's nose inhaller & replace it with the snapper. then we would go to the movies and watch 2001.

I used poppers maybe twice in my life. The last time was many years ago and it scared the shit out of me. I thought my heart was going to beat right out of my chest. It didn't really hurt, but was beating incredibly hard and really fast ... I thought I was going to have a heart attack! Never touched them again.

WOW, that certainly brings back memories! You are 100% correct in all aspects. But that stuff, and what they sell 'over the counter' today is not the same. That stuff, is what is known as the 'real thing'. More potent, but yet less dangerous, than the amalgamation that is currently for sale. Back in those days, they used to come in a little tin, as you state, in every basic first aid kit. There were several in each tin each one shaped like a little tampon, and you snapped them in the middle to break them open! After they were outlawed from the first aid kits, the manufacture went underground and the price went up as always, along with the potency and danger! Really, really big on the pre-AIDS gay scene back in the mid and late 70's. Remember how everyone used to wear a double barreled popper container on a strap around their necks, so they could take a big snort while on the dance floor tripping out to the loud disco music? Oh well, I do regress, but in reality none of it is safe, however, and all leave you gasping for breath and with splitting headaches! :-( You could not pay me enough to inhale that crap they sell today!! :(

These little ampules were the "real thing"! After smoking a joint and then inhaling from these little things-- made for one hot sexual encounter. As one respondent stated, the stuff today is exorbitantly priced , and it is not that good-- even Jungle Juice.

very, very good poppers do bring about a nice, mellow euphoria and enhancement, but don't take if you have take 50m or 100m of the little "BLUE" pill, though. You're asking to die from a heart attack as medical advisors have relayed to the users.

All of the above is right on. For those of us who were out in the seventies, it was hard to avoid poppers. The last time I used them was with an escort in LA and he was topping me and using poppers (this was in the 80's). He offered them to me and proceeded to spill the contents of the bottle onto my face and into my eyes!!! You have never felt such PAIN in your eyes until you get poppers in them. My eyes were red for 3 days. And the hotel room, it STANK. I had to change hotels.x(

I don't think you're missing much. I've been offered poppers on different occassions and usually refuse, but a couple months back I tried them out again. There was a bit of a buzz, which felt kind of nice, but otherwise nothing to write home about. Maybe the "good stuff" was another story, but not the stuff I've tried recently. And the whole thing of stopping the action to take a snort always seems kind of comical to me. I have no problem with others using them, but I'm not crazy about them myself. If you hate the idea of taking anything, even aspirin, I think you could pass on them with no regrets.

RE: Poppers smell and all that . . .

I was on an airplane when a fould odor started growing, it was someone's poppers bottle leaking and it really stunk. Fortunately, it was toward the end of the flight.

I had a client who requested that I bring poppers to a session since it was also his deflowering so to speak and he wanted to go wild. I tried to talk him out of it, but he insisted. A friend recommended Jungle Juice.

While I haven't used them since, JJ is the only way to go when you do. No headaches or nausea here!

Several comments:

1. DO NOT EVER mix Viagra and poppers, EVER. The net is full of documented cases of heart failure when they're used together (at any age).

2. Yep, by and large the stuff sold today is shit (IMHO, Jungle Juice isn't bad, but still not like the '70's/'80's stuff.

3. GOD...memories...late '70's...pot + poppers = awesome sex! }(

4. Good stuff or bad, it can have different effects on different people. In some, it makes them...umm....droop. :-(

Wasn't there a reference here a while ago about some place in NYC which mixes their own? Supposedly close to the quality of the old days?? :+

Ah, the good old days! Back in the 70s and early 80s poppers (plus a joint or 2) were a blast. }(

For about the last decade or so every time I've tried poppers I don't get any buzz at all. What I do get is a whopper of a headache. Not sure if this is due to no longer having the "good stuff" around or if my tolerance level went way up.

Poppers, as typically sold over-the-counter, isn't something you're going to want to inhale . . . it's not safe. I no longer have sex with guys who use poppers in my presence, because I view using poppers as I view having unsafe sex because they compromise your immune system. Just my personal view on the topic.

Hey my feeling on poppers is that if you are a top they have limited value other than a short rush, if you ever go down the road of bottoming they can be a definiate advantage for those multi hour fuck sessions where you just want more cock....poppers will help you get there...my experience only...DO NOT use them with VIAGARA and you are best to check with your doctor before going down this road.

Poppers are very useful for getting a tight hole to open up for a big cock. It really does the trick.

I was introduced to poppers (or amyl nitrate) almost 40 years ago during a sexual encounter with two guys I picked up on the street in Greenwich Village. The effect was frightening: I thought I was having a heart attack, but a pharmacist friend later told me the physical effect was actually the opposite, the amyl dilates the veins so that blood moves more slowly. I subsequently learned that my grandfather had used it in the 1920s for angina, and died of a heart attack one day when he didn't have any poppers with him. In the 1960s and early 70s one still bought them at a pharmacy--I had a number of gay doctor friends who would write prescriptions for them.

The sexual excesses of the 70s brought their use to the attention of the authorities, who reacted in typical prudish American fashion by making it much harder for people to obtain them for recreational use. That led to a new industry of manufacturing and selling butyl nitrate as a substitute that produced a similar effect, although the side effects were much less pleasant. When the AIDS epidemic hit, many people suspected that poppers were somehow involved, but no convincing link was ever found (other than the fact that they reduced people's inhibitions to engage in dangerous practices, since their use was routine for things like fist-fucking).

As far as I can tell, the best stuff available today is in Europe. I still use the ones I buy there. Over the years I have gone through periods when I am practically addicted to them, in a psychological sense, and others when I swear off them for years at a time. Overuse during a sex session can make one one limp--it's best to save it for a few climactic moments. Many people just hate the smell (for others, of course, the slightest whiff is an aphrodisiac), and some people get violent headaches from even small amounts. I would recommend that if you try it, do so when it will not be too upsetting if the reaction is adverse (don't do it when you have just dropped $500 for a couple of hours with a gorgeous stud, the only sex you are going to have for the month). Also, DON'T do it if you are taking any other drugs or medications, especially Viagra.
