I go through periods when I don't look at the boards for months, and then I find myself, after an absence, checking things quite frequently, at least daily. I find a fascinating group of characters here. I seldom look at the reviews; only when some controversy arises. I disagree with those who feel only escort related topics and comments should be made here. Thank God, gay men are involved in all aspects of life and have opinions that are good to share about many things, including politics and religion. My only objection is to the sanctimony perpetuated by some posters. I guess this place is a barometer of how I'm feeling - I'm more interested in it if things are tumultous in my "real" life; and less interested when things are going smoothly. It also gets my attention on nights, like tonight when I have trouble sleeping. This is the main site I visit regularly and the ONLY site I have ever Chatted on. I also enjoy the variety of subjects From Sex to Politics to advice (requested and not requested) to Travel info. Never a dull moment here.

 

It is also great to see that as a middle aged gay man I have lots in common with many here.

On average I check the site twice daily depending on pattern of insomnia and work schedule for the day.

I used to come here for the voyeuristic factor of the review section but was soon won over by the pseudo community that gathers here on the message center. It is kind of the same reason I found myself listening more to talk radio while driving: My lifestyle leaves me very little time for casual social human contact, when I do go out I'm not very approachable and usually end up befriending the bartender and the bouncer, so I'm allowed some sort of feeling of communication with others. Its like participating in a conversation with 20 total strangers about some of the most intimate of topics.

 

So its kind of like being able to listen in on and converse with a cross section of people with whom I would have little opportunity to mix with outside of these circumstances despite my wishes to the contrary.

Like all addictions, Hooville has been taking up much more of my time than I intended . My chief regret is somehow having attracted to the site some charmers like Auntie Semitic and IamToxic (aka The Life-Sucking Lamprey Sisters). I know there are plenty of mental cases out there (I've had to deal with too many of them over the years in the course of my work) but I'm sorry guys who come to M4M for information about the escort scene in Brazil or other places in South America are now subjected to them, as well.

 

The enjoyment has outweighed the regrets, though. By having an opportunity to pass on the lore to new travelers to South America, I'm glad to have been able to repay the generosity of friends who shared their own knowledge and enthusiasm with me before my first trip. My life has been immeasurably richer because of them, and I hope each of you who experiences South America because of M4M feels enriched as well!

When I first found this site, I used it for the escort reviews and wasn't really aware of the message boards. Then, after about 6 months I found myself here. I quickly became addicted to reading and posting, and would check in here multiple times daily. Like some other posters, I work from home, which helped facilitate this addiction. I learned a tremendous amount, and received some great advice, either directly or through others' posts.

 

Since this Fall, as I began going out and dating more often, I checked in here less, which caused me to lose track of the threads, get behind on the opinions, and as a result check here and post even less frequently. Nowadays, I check the threads here about once a week, and post about half that often. But I still get a huge kick out of it, especially with threads like this one.

 

I always enjoyed Bilbo's posts, and his post on this thread reminded me that I missed seeing him so often. So Bilbo - come on back in and join the conversation - you bring a lot to the table.

 

To Rick, now is an appropriate time to thank you again for rescuing this site from the excessive bitterness that prevailed some months ago and caused me to leave in the first place.

 

Of course huge gratitude goes out to HooBoy, Daddy, and the moderators for keeping this site going. And to all the old-time members, and new voices that keep it fresh and in perspective. When I do visit - I almost always find something enjoyable to read and discuss. I tell a lot of my new friends about this site and hopefully they start checking these boards as well.
