:9 Hey gang, I need your help about SF. I'll be going there in Feb. 0f 03, I will be staying at the Hilton in Fisherman's Wharf. What is the area like as in gay clubs and places like that. I'm going to check out the escort reviews in here on SF. Also any hustler areas around my hotel during my stay:+ . Thanks for any information about SF:* .

Fisherman's Wharf

Is very much a tourist trap and not very attractive tourist trap at that, except for the views of the bay.

The closest gay bars to Fisherman's Wharf are those on Polk Street. You could take the 19 Polk Street bus and wonder around there looking for street hustlers but I did not really see very many during my last trip there a week ago (albeit, street hustlers were not high on my agenda).

Because of the dot com implosion, there are a number of guys offering their services as escorts for as little as $120. However, these are generally going to be men available without reviews or without much experience.

You are also a cable car ride to the Nob Hill Theater and a short, inexpensive cab ride to the Campus Theater, both of which are places where you can see male strippers and perhaps hire one for the night.

I would suggest you also check the Male for Male escorts in San Francisco as well as the escort sites, such as http://www.maleprime.com and AmericanMale.net, which break it down geographically, and contacting a few escorts in advance and inquire about prices and availability. Because the economy is still more sluggish in the Bay Area, a lot of prospective clients attempted to bargain with me and several indicated they had done so successfully. However, I had more clients than I could handle and never bargain. I do occassionally offer a day rate, depending on how busy I am. On this trip, I did not have the time or desire (a boy needs his rest) to do so. You may try this with the locals, only be aware that the escort you may most want may not be agreeable to negotiating on his fees.

Good luck, dress warmly, and enjoy San Francisco.

RE: Fisherman's Wharf

A much better choice, although I think its gone downhill recently, but much more convenient to the Nob Hill, decent restaurants, most businesses, and Muni and Bart. The Castro's only a few stops away on the Muni. The escort scene seems tame compared to NY and LA, never understood why. Maybe too much available for free?

There's not a lot of good gay stuff going on around Fisherman's Warf and, IMHO, the restraunts are tourist traps.

I enjoy strip clubs and highly recommend Nob Hill Theater. It is pricy but a very clean and fun environment. I do NOT recommend Campus. It as a dirty dump.

The Castro is a great place to visit and easily accessible through public transportation.

As for escorts, I highly recommend Steve Stacks. I found him to be a very warm and comfortable companion. He is versatile and I had a great time.

On the non-gay scene, there is a great half price theatre outlet in the parking garage at Union Square. (No, I'm not kidding and it is a real business.) There are always lots of fun shows and night club acts going on and this place can usually accommodate you but you need to show up early.

RE: Fisherman's Wharf

>Surely, Shirley there must be a Hilton in a better location

>in the city!

Nope, the Wharf and downtown are the only two locations, except for those "garden" Hiltons out in the 'burbs (but don't bother with those... no action there!).

Even if you do end up out at the wharf, it's not the end of the world. Especially if you've never been to SF, it has its certain post card appeal, and now the F-Market streetcar line runs from the wharf to the Castro via the waterfront, downtown, Polk Street, etc., so it can be an OK launching off place to more interesting and stimulating parts of town. But having said all that, if you can get switched to the downtown Hilton you'll be much closer to everything you're interested in, as others have mentioned.

Also don't forget the sex clubs... there's a club for pretty much any taste and environment you're looking for. If you have a car, you can check out Steamworks in Berkeley too.

Travelling to any city, I'd recommend getting Damron's for the basic listings, and then if it's a larger city like SF, for more descriptive and subjective infomation also get one of the gay-oriented tour books (Fodor's and Access both have gay-oriented versions, and some of the guides like Time Out have a lot of gay listings alongside the mainstream material).

RE: Fisherman's Wharf

Remember SF is small, only 7x7 miles in area. Most any place in the northest quadrant of the city is good. Taxis are cheap and easy to hail. Muni bus would be the last resort, as they are slow and infrequent.

Hotel Monaco is great place, as is Clift (too rich for me). Other good stays are Sheraton Palace and Argent, but these are in the financial district, so a bit dead at night.

Your fellow respondents have given you some excellent suggestions. Now here are mine since I don't live in the City but go there more so now that I have the time.

Try to stay at the Hilton near Union Square.

Pick up a copy of BAR at many gay--gay friendly places; check out the escort ads. Lance Gear is a man whom I think you'd enjoy.

I also agree with another suggestion-- Steve Stack. Try Papi--delightful muscle dude but extremely warm and personable and obliging. Ricardo of SF is tops.

Try to take a ferry trip across the bay. It's relatively inexpensive.

If the sun is brilliant (as it has been for the past three days, you'd definitely enjoy the overall beauty of the City. Do The Castro.

Stroll down Polk quickly. It has seen its heyday and has declined immensely; it does seen too gay at all. South of Market--yes-- and do go to MOMA SF (if you into that sort of activity). I could go on and on, but you'll catch on once you venture out.

Lastly, SF has a plethora as well as a variety of escorts. Read and view what's at these sites. Mr. DiSantis gave you some fine tips...
