If I can count on my memory, I believe I packed up, drove to Burger King, and indulged in a Double Whopper with Cheese, an order of Onion Rings and Fries, and a Chocolate Shake. My pattern is, if I'm going to leave a bath house with blue balls, I'm going to find junk food satisfaction at Burger King. At least BK grills their burgers. That's how I justify healthy when it comes to eating junk food. (I prefer McDonald's fries so if a McDonalds is around the corner from a BK, I go to McD's for the fries.)

 

I may not get turned on by a naked fat man but I know how to wallow in food when things don't go as desired.

I have to agree some of what Epignos states here. I don't buy into the claim that obesity is a disease. It is mostly a consequence of overeating and not getting exercise.....period. It is indeed, largely, a lifestyle choice. Get on a plane and go to Europe or South American and you will see about 70-80% fewer obese people there. Many of the ones you do see there are American tourists!! I always know when I am back in the US due to all the fat people I see. BTW, I say this as someone who has struggled with my weight all my adult life. I am not obese, but could stand to lose 20-25 lbs. I do exercise though and take initiatives to address the problem.

 

However, I do not go as far as to say that obese people or drug users or drinkers should not be able to get medical coverage. That is cruel. Kind of like individual health insurance today. Only healthy people need apply. Huh?? We all have issues of one sort or the other. Whether obesity, drug addiction, smoking addiction, sex addiction, obsessive compulsive disorder, or whatever. These should not preclude one from being able to get medical treatment at a reasonalbe price.

With our current knowledge about AIDS I am less sympathetic with those who come down with the disease today if they refused to practice “safe sex”. There is “safe sex” there is NO “safe obesity”, “safe smoking” or “safe substance abuse”.

 

It's not about labeling something as a disease or not. We ALL make choices in our lives which can put us in the hospital or doctor's office and drive up medical costs for others. Driving a car, having a baby, riding a bike, living in a large city with extra pollution, etc. Who's to choose which ones society will deem as medical expenses they are willing to burden the cost of.

You are totally right. Sad thing is that so many Americans don't know it. They think our health care system is great and the best in the world. We are the only country in the world with a health care system set up like this. You can only get health insurance if your employer offers it, if you purchase privately (and have zero health issues, or if you are over 65. Everyone else is screwed. People think this is normal.

Really no different than someone not wanting any of their contributions going towards health care for fatties, smokers, drinkers, HIV. How about people that are athletes? They get knee, back, arm, skull, groin injuries all the time. Should they pay much higher premiums? The list could go on and on. They are all indeed choices that open one up to higher health risks.

I’m one of those people who believe obesity, smoking, and substance abuse are life style choices NOT illnesses. I also believe that we all should have the right to make the life style choices we wish.

 

Where I become extremely hardnosed and intolerant is when those who make detrimental life style choices expect me to help pay for treatments necessary because of THEIR choices. I DO NOT believe my insurances rates should be high enough to cover those individuals who are obese, smoke or are substance abusers.

It is likely that a muscular 220 pound man will have to pay more in insurance than a sedentary 140 man of the same height and age and other demographic considerations. Weight, which was much easier to measure until recent advances in body fat percentages measurement.

What definitely is a life style choice is a decision to call a 420 pound man an elephant, even in a story where that man walks away with the hot guy at the sauna. Unless that man was being compared to an elephant due to his long trunk or his excellent memory or long life or impressive animal intellect or the elephant's strong familial bonds.

I have been fat, I have been thin, I have been muscular and I have been obese. I really haven't changed that much on the inside through those outward metamorpheses. I certainly have been treated differently, likely based on the outward appearance and that crosses all aspects of life not just in the dating world. I would never deem being compared to an elephant other than insult, a denigration and an attempt to undermine my self esteem. But I am a bull, and as water off a duck's back , such attempts to demean fall short and wind up only being mean.
