A little birdie tells me today is Lee's (Leigh Bess Toad) Birthday.

Thank you to alll of you for the birthday wishes. You have no idea how much they are appreciated.

 

It has been a remarkable year for me -- something completely unplanned and unexpected. A year ago I was "happily" buried so deeply in the closet Lewis and Clark couldn't have found me. I never had any intention of coming out. But I knew I needed to somehow start exploring that part of me I had ignored for many years. Next Sunday, Leigh.Bess.Toad will be one year old. And with Leigh's birth it started my journey that leads me to where I am now. Out and proud as a gay man. Remarkably not only have I discovered myself, I found an amazing bf. Yesterday was our 3 month anniversary so it's been a weekend to remember.

 

All I know is that none of this would have been possible without this place. Maybe it was because I was ready. But the forum gave me the place to explore and grow and eventually come out. You have been my friends and in many cases my family. I am a lot better person today for knowing each of you. I have learned from each of you. And for that, to each of you, to all the forum members, I say thank you from the bottom of my heart.

 

I am an old man (well middle-aged old) but I am a newbie gay man with still much to learn. This time last year, my life was humdrum, boring, stale. Now it is new, full of life and with virtually endless possibilities. I am truly blessed beyond any reasonable expectations of any man. This forum and the members here have helped make much of that possible.

 

So on this, my first gay birthday, please accept my thanks for all you have given to me in the last year. You have touched my life and my heart and I cannot thank you enough.

I just noticed this thread... it was started 8 hours ago... and that would have been noon time as it is now approaching 8 PM... and I certainly hope that Lee has been doing what ever is his pleasure for the bulk of that time... Now from what I know of him... I would guess he is about half way through listening to Wagner's Ring at this point in time... and as I type is probably being serenaded by the Forest Bird in Siegfried... Or perhaps he is doing something or someone else???!!!

 

In any event I sincerely hope that he is enjoying to the max...

I must be "dense" in some respects. On the day of Lee's birthday, I noted the name on my Facebook page and sent greetings. Only a few minutes ago did I realize that it was "our" Lee, the major contributor at "The Gallery" and a man who had written to me regarding being an amigo @ this site, an individual who'd sent me wonderful and interesting and helpful private messages. Damn, "am I this dense?" Am I completely out of it? I hope not and do profusely apologize to Lee.

 

Again, I hope this day was indeed spent in a special way for you; I hope you had wonderful friends and company present! Forgive me, man! I was completely oblivious and possibly in the same funk as I was a week ago last Tuesday when I had a medical procedure performed. Afterwards, I had no idea what had transpired at the end; I returned home (with friend who had taken me) and slept for approximately six hours; I missed an important meeting of a Board of which I am a member!

And as an update, yes I had a wonderful birthday. I have always hated my birthday. I have had only one birthday that I remember at all, and it was my 13th birthday, when my parents drove me from DC to NY to see the team I loved as a child, the San Francisco Giants, play against the Mets. And I got to see Willie Mays, and Willie McCovey play. And Juan Marichal pitched that day. And came within a foot of grabbing a foul ball off of Willie May's bat. And Russia invaded Czechoslovakia (although I don't think that was related :) ).

 

As an adult, each year was pretty much the same as the previous and the next. I was simply walking through my life, dull and boring. But this year, my first gay birthday, was special. So many greetings from new friends. PM's, texts, phone calls from everyone I consider dear in my life now. An amazing afternoon with my bf. And a wonderful dinner with my wife (who has been so supportive of me during my coming out it is unbelievable) and son. There was not one sour note the whole day. I will remember and cherish yesterday, much like I remember and cherish my 13th birthday, forever. It really was that special.

 

Now today is another matter. What in the hell am I supposed to do with all this damned leftover birthday cake? And don't get into the chocolate covered oreos my son got me for my bday. I will be in the gym forever to pay for this.

Lee... I am so happy for you... and it seems as though you had one heck of a day. Plus, since there was "not one sour note"... I guess I was quite wrong with my posting above... and you actually didn't listen to a single note of Wagner...

 

Still, the bottom line is this... you don't hate your birthday any more... though believe me as time marches on you may regret having birthdays... but at least you won't hate them... I always pegged you as being an optimistic, energetic, and confident person... You have not only confirmed that, but it seems you have arrived and then some!
