So in the fetish forum I posted about the sling I made from a truck mudflap.

Shortly thereafter I got a nice message from a member telling me that he didn't think slings were fetish equipment though he admitted that making them out of truck parts or with a trucker theme might make it fetishistic to many.

 

So I wonder what others think?

Are slings simply a useful utility? Advanced accesory?

Perverted play equipment? Kinky contraption?

 

Does the idea of a sling turn off, frighten or titilate some of you?

I'm of the opinion that a sling is definetely in the world of fetish gear....not to say that it can't be used for vanilla sex...it is just not necessary....It provides a larger sense of control for the top and less control for the bottom....hence the sub-dom aspect of the sex....JMHO

I agree generally that is how it is or at least is viewed. But not necessarily.

Just off the top of my head I think I know more bottoms who own a sling than tops.

Hard to count and I'm not certain thats true since so many are at least a bit versatile.

 

But I know several very masculine power bottoms who have a sling or fuck bench. To them the top, sling, and lube are all just tools used in pursuit of a great fuck. Okay maybe not often to that level of objectification but unless the bottom is restrained or locked in place it doesn't have to represent loss of control.

 

Some bottoms do after all grab the chains and use the sling as much as a hungry bottom might use a bed as he pushed himself onto the tops obediant hard on.

 

What doesn't happen nearly enough is cuffing the top to the sling!

I don't know that I would classify a sling as being a fetish item, but it can facilitate fetish activities, such as the aforementioned cuffing to the top of the sling. Perhaps it could be considered a gateway to fetishes?

While slings have that reputation for being in the leather bdsm play arena... I have found many many cases where a sling has been useful in vanilla situations. It allows the bttm to just lay back and relax... not having to worry about leg fatigue, cramping up, uncomfortable positions... it allows the top and bttm to adjust things just to the right height so they can drive all night if they want to. So... I kind of have this idea in my mind that a sling is more of a necessary accessory that can just facilitate all kinds of play from kinky to fetish to romantic to... whatever. Even though I have just begun my initiation into the wonerful world of leather, the sling holds a strong sexual fascination to me as the ultimate sex toy. It seems that it can create the ultimate passion for sub or dom--switching positions would be as hot as hot gets for me. As Tyger mentioned, it can also be very comfortable so that the parties are relaxed (not all body parts) and can concentrate on the "ride".

 

My new condo has a great spot for a sling. Just need someone to help me install it and show me how to use it. 2 names come to mind immediately.

I'll install it into the ceiling so when visitors with inquisitive minds (family, straight friends) come over, I can say the bolts in the ceiling are to hang deck furniture--like they'll believe that.

 

I think it should be weight tested so we'll have to bring in 2 sling masters to help. Us Boston guys have got to stick together.

This discussion reminds me of when I was a kid growing up in a small homogeneous town. The closest we got to ethnic food was Italian. Then one day a Chinese restaurant opened and I was exhilarated by all the new foods and flavors. I wanted Chinese every night. After a while I grew tired of it, and when I went to college I realized that Chinese food wasn't so exotic after all. Now, when guys come over and want to set up the sling (I have a portable one) my initial reaction is always...really? we have to lug that thing out from the back of the closest and then after we're finished I have to clean up all the dried cum, spit, and j-lube? Can you just tie me up on the floor and be done with it?

 

BTW, a portable sling is a good choice if you don't want hooks and what not in the ceiling. This will circumvent the need to answer all of those questions from inquiring minds. You can get those for a few hundred dollars, or perhaps contract with Raul to build and install a custom one.

Yes I agree with Tyger and Steven and others that a sling while sometimes having a fetish or leather reputation is a useful accessory for "vanilla" play.

Not absolutely necessary but like lube or a hole in ones pants it is sure makes things easier.

Definitely helps with regard to leg fatigue for many positions and is almost de rigeur for fisting.

Though I know some who can take just about anything (including my extra large hands) in just about any position, even standing up.

 

One downside of slings is that some devotees get in a rut where they only like to get fucked in their sling which can end up limiting ones variety of positions.

To me the best thing is to keep it fresh, active and fun. Try new positions, heights, angles etc.

 

When it comes to installation there are a number of ways to disguise the use of the sling. Many will normally have a hanging chair and keep the sling locked away somewhere else until playtime. But there are also types of hanging chairs/hammocks that can be made into convertible sling/chairs.
