I was just looking at this study someone is doing to "plot the regional variations in the use of the terms 'pop' and 'soda' to describe carbonated soft drinks":http://www.ugcs.caltech.edu/~almccon/pop_soda/ (I completely disagree with his conclusion, that "People who say 'pop' are much, much cooler," since we New Yorkers, who are coolest, say "soda." :p )

Anyway, I wonder if there are regional variations in the use of "cock" and "dick." I prefer "dick." Preferably in my mouth. :9

Anyone else care to weigh in? Be sure to mention where you're from. Or how you're hung. }>

Funny thing--I've often thought about this very question--should I suck cock tonight or dick }>

I think it depends on the type of sex you like--to me dick is "cleaner' :) and more sexi and appealing whereas cock is more pornographic, sweaty and rough--which of course has it's moments too :) In Junior High and High School, my friends and I always used the term cock, as being the more "manly" term I supose -- it just sounded more base and offensive, but now days I prefer dick, but like either, if the truth be known ;)

Strange, huh?

Out here in the West, we prefer the masculine, burly "cock" to the rather effete and foppish "dick" so ubiquitous in the East.

To me, a "cock", pronounced with a fully round and short "o" sound, almost like "caulk", conveys a certain power and thickness. Whereas "dick" to me defines some persona - like an asshole. Like, "He's SUCH a dick!" When I hear dick, I'm thinking, pencil-thin.

But that's us in the West. :+

West Coast here, I use dick when I want to be polite, when I'm talking hardcore sex I always say cock :)

Rick,

In spite of Chrismac's assertion that he speaks for the entire West, I assure you that in the gizillion years that I've lived here in "The West," I have witnessed no evidence that would make me think that there was anything even approaching a concensus on this subject.

Since none exists, therefore, I dare say that you are back to gathering this information one pecker at a time, and in the spirit of helping out a fellow Lounge lizard with his load, I offer you my assurance that *this* lone, phallus euphemiser prefers "dick" to cock. Until such time as one finds its way into my mouth that is, in which case my vote is pretty much up for grabs.

Does that help?

Rick,

Don't you hate it when people try to be friendly and call you "Dick" rather than Rick?

As you know, we here in New York, pronounced "Nu Yark", try to teach our youth the correct term for the item between your legs. So last night at the "gentlemen's" club, the "Townhouse", I asked this very hot and cute bartender if he would please stir my drink with his "penis". ;)

"Cock" always seems more straightforward to me. "I sucked dick (Dick?) last night," is potentially confusing to someone like me who has several acquaintances named Richard. It is my impression, as a lifelong East Coast cocksucker, that no one north of Alabama refers to dicksuckers.

>FYI: 8" at the Jersey Shore

I grew up at the Jersey Shore but I never had 8" to suck as a kid (at least, until I was 17 & met Derek). You're making me hungry to return to my roots. :9

New Yorker here - anything under 7 inches is a dick (it's a city ordinance). Needless to say, you'd be addressing mine as "cock" - in fact, you already have, Mr. Munroe.:)

OK, you're right; I need to change my answer. I agree with Flower, chrismac, Huey and you. I love cock; I'm a cocksucker by trade; I love my own cock, too. That's it...no more "dick" for me. I've learned a lot from this thread! :p

Flower, are you new to this board? I like the head that's on your broad shoulders. Your responses are oh so "cool"--thought-provoking!

Your thoughts about this thread were similarly to some of the ones that came to mind as I began to read the initial thread!

"cock" is nice indeed, but dont you think that "dick" has a little more edgeiness to it?

"Suck my cock!" "Suck my dick!" Hummm....doesnt matter to me as long as the results are the same.....and hey, watch the teeth!

And may we have a moment of silence for the wonderful terms which never seem to be thought of any more? Old friends who have gone before, including dork (used, but not in this meaning?), pud (short for pudenda), pudenda .... ;-)
