At least Franco is a presence on the site, with his postings. I have been around for 2 years; Talvin has done little more than post his escorting schedule. From reading today's review of Talvin, he seems to

make clients feel that they are honored to pay his high fee. I am

sure I would like Talvin, if I ever hired him but he's hard to figure out if you only know him through this Message Center.

A client of Jesse wrote to me early in the stages of the contest and suggested a threesome, hiring both of us to be with him in Calgary labor day weekend. I had been led to understand that there was a thread on here which referred to me as being too tired and haggard for a cover boy but apparently that is not the case. I think there is room for a variety of escorts to satisfy a variety of tastes. I may be perfect for someone but am certainly not perfect for all and I believe both Mr. Munroe, Bilbo, Talvin and any other escort on this site, would agree with that assessment.

 

This is a very non-scientific computer poll/popularity contest and a simple reading of the number of people who are registered indicates that many do not participate or do not participate every month. Let's be honest, many of the men who participate as client tend to favor a certain look. As other escorts, from Tom Bustone and Mack in San Francisco, to Marcus in Fort Lauderdale, and Gino Manusco in New York, certainly do not fit the young, smooth look, there are clients who are submitting reviews but otherwise not participating in this board or do so only as "lurkers." This explains the winners and explains the runner ups. Michael Brandon has won a number of these types of contest elsewhere yet hardly placed last time. Any number of well known porn stars or participants on this board have not highly placed.

 

None of the escorts I have ever voted for previously, save one, was ever the winning cover boy, and this includes well known participants on this site like Devon, who voted for Talvin, rather than himself when Devon was up for the contest in March and I "campaigned" and suggested voting for him in the thread about Talvin. I voted for Jeff from Ohio a few months ago because he is my example of a very forthright, reputable, well-respected escort who I believes gives his all for his clients. In his instance, I encouraged my friends, including the Twinks, to vote for him, which they did but he came nowhere near to winning. Jeff would never have campaigned for himself, I believe, and after ten years and many more reviews than I may ever have, I am certain he has hundred of very satisfied clients, most of whom probably were not even aware he was up for this contest and therefore did not participate or vote.

 

As to the question did I campaign, certainly I did so. I would not have been the first escort 30 or older to win, Talvin has that honor and probably will remain with that honor. But I think there is, and should be a place, for differences. It is certainly regretable that except for Talvin, it has been a very young, very similar and very pale collection. Some very attractive black and asian models have been certainly overlooked. To suggest that my campaigning (or that of anyone else) is somehow bad is absurd. George W. Bush did so, candidates for the Supreme Court do so, Nobel Prize Laureates do so.

 

Finally, for those who suggested I cheated, I would like to remind everyone that I am half Corsican and while not as Sicilian as some distant relatives, if I had cheated, I would have been your cover "boy" this July.

Three things...

 

1) I'm really not sure what all the fuss is about. It's not just Talvin and Franco who do this (they're just more successful than most)Since Hooboy started running this, I've been contacted at least three times by escorts who I'd been with who asked me to vote for them.

 

2) Wasn't aware that ANY of the Coverboy winners had made much of an impact on the Board...

 

3) Never said I was 'Honoured' to be with Talvin and his rates, while high, are comparable to other porn 'stars' that I've seen. I sure did enjoy him though!

Let's review how this cover boy selection thing works....

 

Every day, from the reviews that are posted, HooBoy selects a coverboy. The only requirement beyond actually being reviewed is they must show their face. Some days, there are few reviews which narrows down the nomination process quite a bit. Even so, Hoo actually chooses quite a wide variety of guys. I've often been surprised that guys who are "his type" get passed over in favor of a different look.

 

So there is already a natural selection process in place: the guy has to be reviewed that month and had to be the selection of the day. The more established escorts become eligible for the contest less frequently because their reviews are already on a 30-day separation. The lesser known escorts have a better chance because they're eligible more often.

 

At the end of the month, the polling starts and is open to anyone smart enough to find it.

 

It all seems fairly well-balanced to me.

 

Some escorts maintain mailing lists so that they can keep clients abreast of the goings-on in their lives. Being nominated for an open competition is one such going-on. I see absolutely nothing wrong with encouraging participation, particularly since it might just bring new blood into this site.

 

I'm actually surprised Hoo has kept the monthly contests going as long as he has because of all the complaining and kvetching that goes on every month. It's all much ado about nothing.

 

Someone mentioned Talvin's lack of participation here. Well, boys, YOU brought that about. He used to be a regular here but the disrespect and outright contempt he was shown got to be too much. I can't say that I blame him. This place just isn't worth it these days.

Deej, I've been here pretty much since the beginning (late '99) and I don't recall Talvin ever receiving "disrespect and outright contempt" (altho it's possible I might have missed that, since my huge overinflated ego only allows my brain to search & scan for threads that mention me, or ones where I sense that I can interject my lame attempts at humor or cockteasing). I recall other escorts (myself included) being dissed or trashed, but not Talvin. I've always thought he has lots of fans here. I do seem to remember some thread, a while back, where Talvin had gotten kind of defensive about a "bad" review which wasn't even really bad...other than that, I don't think he ever really participated much anyway, other than in the Travel section. Besides, isn't this a business where you need to be a little thick-skinned at times?

That's an unfair thing to say. The members of this board are, for the most part, a supportive/friendly/inquisitive bunch who enjoy trading info on escorting, society, politics, (and drugs: can't forget Traveller ;-) ) etc. There are a couple of nasty ones, sure, but they're definitely outnumbered by the other 1,035 decent (as decent as one can be on a website devoted to whores) registered members. I've noticed that we've recently had an increase in escorts who post, and I hope it continues. I was getting lonely.

You know something, you probably didn't intend for this posting to be so mean spirited, and normally I like staying out of these dramatic postings, stay away from all that crap and just do my job, with an occassional post, however, knowing Franco from this site, and having met him for coffee once, he's not only a great guy, but handsome too.

 

There have been many guys on here who are not necessarilly my physical type. I tend not to go for the real thin , twink look, unless I want to just be a total top and dominate, but overall, that is not my look I go after, but yet I would never post something on here saying how an escort shouldn't get such high percentage of votes for COVERBOY because he's not my type...

 

Excuse me for saying this, but that's just downright mean.....

 

Like most of us on this system who have a good amount of reviews, and most of which are good ones, we are successful for several reasons, the most important I have found is that we are genuinely nice guys. When I have been flown by clients into other cities, I've often looked up the local escort scene, and they are sometimes a number of hot, ripped escorts, and wonder "why me?"

 

Then I realize, even though I have a certain, cute or hot look, what gets people is the personality. FRanco is very handsome, but even more importantly, is nice to be with, he obviously treats his clients with ultimate respect, as evidenced by his reviews, and also, knows how to market himself, since he is very inteligent as well. (that is the other talent that those of us on this system with good reputations have.....we are inteligent enough to know how to market out abilities and charm)

 

anyway, though Franco certainly didn't ask me to speak up, when I read your posting, it kinda pissed me off a bit. Franco deserved every bit of that non-scientific survey results that he rec'd.
