NYO suggests today that he might cut back on the number of reviews he does or do shorter mini-reviews. I prefer the lengthy reviews as often as he can/wants to do them. If he misses a week or two, someone else can usually provide the lineup and a mini-review.

When I hear that something I like very much about this site might change, it reminds me to point out to NYO how much I like reading his reviews, how interesting they are, and what vicarious pleasures they provide. He is always fair to the dancers.

And, having seen him numerous times at the Gaiety, without having met him, I can say that he is a gentleman. (Plus, he does not hog a seat all night that he doesn't use!!):)

I want to echo Lucky's words of encouragement for NYO and his review. As someone who has only been to the Gaiety twice NYO's column certainly added to my enjoyment of the experience.

If someone else steps up and helps write the reviews it will be a tough job to fill. It can't be easy to find someone who is both extremely reliable and very fair to the dancers and the club. Not to mention trying to find someone equally honest who won't try and parlay the review column into special "favors" from the guys.

So NYO however you proceed from here good luck and thanks.

As an almost monthly visitor to the big apple I look forward to NYO's reviews too. Although I rarely hire from the Gaiety anymore, I still read the reviews-on weeks that I visit to see if I agree or whether I think I should go based on who's anticipated to be there and to find out what the dancer's names were since I understand the announcer maybe 50% of the time- and on weeks that I'm not there to live vicariously.

Might it make sense to have a list of "Gaiety Regular Dancers" under the Gaiety banner with a brief description-he already has this in his reviews, its a cut and paste job - and then just do a simple list of who's appearing among the regulars, and a "review or some comments" of only those guys who are new or have broken the mold.

I really appreaciate the time and effort you've put into this, and totally understand the need to reduce the time commitment. Thanks for all the work and however you decide to go forward I'm sure most here will support your decision.

I would also add my praises of NYO to the previous two. It is the most enjoyable feature of this multi-faceted site. Monday's are a bitch - start of another work week - and the vicarious thrills derived for the Gaiety Reviews go a long way to making that more tolerable.

I understand if NYO has to take a break now and again - but please don't desert us totally - pretty please :-)

NYO is really a great guy. very intelligent. while it has been a long time since i've been to the gaiety, i still read his reviews and enjoy them. it wasn't too hard to figure out who he was on oneof my trips so i introduced myself and he turned out to be a fun type of person with a sense of humor. we have much of the same taste in men and i relied on him for recommendations.

i wish he had been around when i first started going to the gaiety. my first male sexual experience was with a gaiety dancer and NYO's advice could have given me a better result.

thanks for all the hard work.

Thoughts:

1) too bad micro-payments have not really taken off on the Internet. If each of us who appreciated NYO's dedication were to contribute a few cents each review, would it add up to monetary compensation that would be worth his while. ("It's a tough job, but somebody's got to do it.")

[Of course, if I was paying for it, I'd jump up and down about the no-socks policy. Love you madly, NYO, but I TOTALLY disagree with your bare feet fetish. (Sung to the tune of "Hair", "Give me a man with boots, long, beautiful boots, gleaming, flaxen, waxen, give me a man with boots, thigh high or longer, boots, baby, boots, everywhere boooooooooots.")]

2) Enlist four (or eight) reviewers for a rotating schedule.

3) Too bad the boys at the Nob Hill & Club 220 here in SF don't all perform in one two or three hour stretchs or I'd volunteer to give the Left Coast Review.

4) Having never met NYO in person I sort of wondered what kind of wierdo would spend so much time on such an activity. However, by all reports, he's not a wierdo at all; so going back to having a life before the weekly Gaiety reviews sounds like a good thing.

5) M4M readers engage in a leveraged buy-out of the Gaiety so Denise can retire to Florida and we can start marketing the Gaiety the way we'd like to see it marketed. (Even the much-reviled Nob Hill and Club 220 here in SF have web sites with schedules and fotos of (some of) the performers.)

We are strong. We are resolute. We will carry on.

I would like to also echo all of the nice things being said here about NYO and his reviews. Though I am in my 30s I am still at a very early part in my life of deciding my sexuality, coming out and coming to terms with all of it (should I even be questioning if I LOVE the Gaiety?!?). I went full hug with the Gaiety last year for the first time in my life. I went years ago but it was for only 10 minutes as I went in, saw a naked man, and ran out like a scared 4th grade girl! Though I go a good deal now it has taken a psychological toll in terms of the fantasy of it all, going with the dancers for privates, etc. However, through all of that NYO took time to answer all my e-mails and IMs. I had so many questions and he gave me the reality checks I needed. He is a truly kind soul. In person, he is so real and down to earth. Like many of the postings here already stated, he allows us to vicariously enjoy what goes on in that 2nd floor room on 46th street. He needs to do what he has to do in terms of cutting back, etc. However, I will always be thankful for his time, kindness and help.

I must add my word of thanks to NYO also. I visited New York for the first time this year and because of NYO's reviews the Gaiety was at the top of my list of tourist attractions, even stayed across the street at the Marriott Marquis. I would miss the weekly reviews but I have often wondered how he was able to keep up the weekly pace as time consuming as these reviews must be. The Gaiety really ought to give NYO a free admission Gold Card just for all the business you've brought them.

Thanks again NYO and I'll just have to live with a Bi-monthly review or what ever you decide on. Now there's a topic " NYO GOES BI"

He most certainly is! When I was in New York last month I was treated to NYO's stageside commentary at the Gaiety, which made the show that much more enjoyable. He's a sweet guy with a great sense of humor who's appreciative of the dancers, even the ones who aren't his personal favorites. The only drawback to sitting next to him was that it made me invisible to all the dancers... :o

Question for NYO

I agree with all the complimentary comments above. NYO does wonders PR wise for Gaiety. He really should have a free pass.

In keeping with that, does Denise know who NYO is and if so, does she every comment or respond to any suggestions you have about the place?

RE: Question for NYO

Thanks for the nice words guys. I really appreciate them. I have been doing this for almost 3 years and it's gotten to be more of a chore than a pleasure. Thanks for the suggestions I've received both here and in private emails. I am mulling over some options, not sure what I'll do, but I won't be totally dropping off the face of the earth. There will be some form of review, whether it's twice a month, weekly but shorter or something else; I just don't know how things will develop. Thanks to those of you who volunteered to be guest reviewers. A couple of dancers threatened me and begged me to continue promoting them (just kidding, but I definitely have kid gloves, compared to some of the guest reviewers of days gone past).

Over the past 3 years, I've met many great guys, both escorts (many of whom I've brought to The Gaiety), dancers and patrons. The Gaiety has been a great place for me to cultivate some nice friendships. I have become a lot more extroverted there, it's kind of my comfort zone. It's one place where I feel more knowledgeable than most, so I guess I'm pretty confident, despite still being VERY shy.

I never asked for anything special for my work. Most of the dancers know that I write the review. Many will give me an extra good view of their best features, hoping that I might take note. I never asked for free entry to the Gaiety (although it would be nice, given that I probably spend a small fortune there). I never asked to be paid for my reviews. I did it for fun and it has (usually) been fun. It's been great corresponding with fellow admirers of the guys, getting to know some of the patrons and exchanging stories. I will always treasure some of those moments/experiences.

Denise does know who I am. I don't think it gets me anything special. I am not assertive enough to make suggestions; she has been "successful" without my help (of course there are lots of things I'd change, but nobody asked me). I would occasionally tell her as I'm leaving who I particularly liked, not sure whether she listened/cared or not, but it made me feel better sharing my opinion, especially when I was tauting someone who wasn't considered a star.

My only regret is that I still haven't met Rick Munroe. He comes up with every excuse imagineable to avoid me. It's unbelievable. I have not sent in no show reviews of him because we've never spoken, set up an appointment, but we've had a couple of near misses. Maybe one day our paths will cross. By the way, Rick, Devon DID tip! (I can't tell you the whole story, he'd kill me)

I am not all-knowing about the Gaiety. I have my opinion and it frequently differs from others. True, I probably have a better recognition of the dancers, might remember a bit more about them than most people, but it's great fun sharing opinions with all of you. Thanks for making my time here so fun.

See you this weekend.

Hugs,

NYO

LOL Hey, I just thought maybe you'd make me shave my body & dance around on a stage with a silver mylar curtain. I was a-scared!Seriously...it was just a coincidence that I was never able to meet you and I hope we still can. I've been practicing my moves. :p

RE: Question for NYO

I've always enjoyed the Gaiety Reviews and will miss them if they stop. How's this for an alternative? 200 of us will send NYObserver $1.00 each. He'll choose one dancer, do a private with him and then report to us every detail of the encounter. He's got my buck! Does he have yours???

RE: Question for NYO

Let me add my voice to the praise chorus. NYO has treated stripping at the Gaiety as an art form, which it can be. He has respected the dancers, made his preferences and non-preferences known (shoes and tatoos -- they rhyme!) and made astute observations about the patrons and the management which consistently ring true. I hope that his work has raised the tone of the Gaiety and given it more business, as I for one certainly want it to continue entertaining us forever.

Having met NYO and chatted with him several times, I too can testify to his decency, humor, intelligence and discernment.

Please, please, NYO - continue your reviews in some form or other! They lighten my life and I am sure are useful to others as well. They take stripping seriously and provide a more or less objective forum to encourage lads to show it all and do it well.
