In what is undoubtedly shocking news for fans of the TV sitcom Will and Grace, actor Sean Hayes has revealed that is a homosexual in real life too.

The dramatic revelation has been made to the gay news The Advocate.

Theater goers who were unaware of Hayes' orientation may receive a full refund on tickets to his new Broadway show, Promises, Promises. "Many theatergoers appreciate the strong heterosexual ethic of Broadway theater, so we felt that the refunds should be available to those who might not want to sit through a Broadway show that includes a homosexual," producers said. So far, no one has claimed the refund. :)

This is a big deal? Sure, Hayes never confirmed it until now, but to out one's self in the pages of The Advocate seems a little dated. At least Lance Bass had the good sense to go with People Magazine for his coming out party.

Good for Sean. Even though many people have assumed that he is gay, it's a positive step for him to publicly acknowledge and embrace his true sexual orientation. I haven't read the Advocate article--did he mention having a partner or is he single?

I'm hoping that's an April Fool's Day joke. No one could possibly take that refund offer seriously.

Who had any idea Sean Hayes was gay? I'm totally shocked.

So am I really the only guy who thinks this guy's an asshole for not coming out sooner?? What a friggin' joke this stupid charade has been all of these years.

Unicorn, I'm with you. Sean outted himself a long time ago playing the role of Jack to the Max. Either he was GAAAYEEE, or he owes the straight-acting half of us an apology for his stereotyping.

I too had to take a double on the announcement. I always thought Sean's orientation was pretty clear that he was way GAY (too gay), and so it never came as a surprise. Now had Eric McCormick made an announcement... ah...

BUT I am also very much of the side that does not want anyone outed until they personally are ready, and do not get angry or upset if - for personal, professional or whatever reasons - a guy decides to remain in the closet. It is a very personal decision, and some are more courageous and self-assured than others. I prefer respecting each one's privacy.

Every LGBT person has the right to determine when it's the appropriate time for them to "come out" based on their unique circumstances. Coming out is a deeply personal journey and no two people have the same exact background, conditions or support network. I'm glad Sean made it official on his own terms--when, where and how it felt right for him to do so.

I agree 100%, I hate media trash like Perez hilton who thinks it's his right to out people.

WoW... I mean the first time I saw Sean Hayes in a commercial and his early work was... oh he is gay. I know friend had a copy of "Billy's Big Hollywood Screen Kiss", and then his appearance on Wil & Grace.... etc... etc...

I knew he claimed ambiguous status and he never corrected anyone who assumed he was heterosexual.

Well if he is out then cool, but seriously that like Paul Lynn or Liberace going "Ya caught me boys.... I am gay"

In the end he's a cool actor who has always made me laugh..... so kudos...

Scruffy Face Sean

By the way, I'm pretty keen on Sean's cover photo. He's cute with that scruffy 5 o'clock shadow, imho.

I Agree With Others, What Sean Gay? Oh My

Look sorry but anyone that tries to hide being gay as he did just isn't being real. It's like Nathan Lane or Kevin Spacey, come on now. But now that Sean isn't on a weekly TV

show and wants to draw some attention, here I am, I'm gay.

Lynde, not Lynn. ;-)

But seriously, their era was a very different one - most people surely "knew" that men like Lynde and Liberace were gay, and I suppose most everybody else suspected - but it simply wasn't talked about in public.

Things are far from perfect today, but there's certainly more of a sense that gay celebs can be out in public without causing much controversy - but still, I agree with those who say that it should be up to the individual whether they should declare themselves out or not.

And concerning the upcoming Promises, Promises revival - frankly, I'm a lot more worried about the horrible miscasting of Kristin Chenoweth as Fran than whether anyone cares if a guy guy is playing Chuck.

Surprised NO!

Does anyone really think any "Straight Guy" could pull that Jack "Gayer than Christmas" Character off for so long without having that Gay Insight? ;)

IF ya do the "Working Guy Rates" are going down in 2011!

To this day, there are blue-haired old ladies who wish they had a nice husband like Rock Hudson and think Liberace was just "sensitive".

(Haven't been there in years, but the Liberace museum in Vegas used to be a SCREAM just to listen to the old ladies cluck at each other.)

These attitudes will pass like a bad burrito but it will take another generational cycle.
