Does anyone already have any exciting plans for New Year's Eve, or is it too soon to think about yet?

NYE is when the amateur drunks are out. There isn't enough money to get me to venture out.

I'll stay home, warm, comfy, and safe and let them have the roads.

On the west coast, we can take advantage of time zones, watch the ball drop in NYC, and still be in bed at our normal time.

Ah! Pleasures of a certain age. :)

But even at a much younger age, one of my more sybaritic moments connected with NYE and NYC was being in Times Square the afternoon of Dec. 31. But then settling down snug in a friend's home in Hastings-on-Hudson long before midnight, from which perch we watched the fracas on TV, by his warm fireplace, with a warm grog, cuddling his warm dogs.

hmm

I clean my house and read books. Last year I watched TV with my dear friend. I rarely drink so I had water while my friend drank Bourbon. I don't know what I am going to do this year.

Like most other replies, I don't venture out that night. There was way too many drinkers on the highway and where I live (Utah) there's usually icy roads and lots of snow.

I just prefer to stay home and celebrate via phone (or Skype) with friends and family.

As Deej mentions, those of us on the West Coast can see the new year celebration and still make it bed on time. :)

Have dinner at a wonderful local neighborhood French restaurant with the same group of friends every year. We have reservations for six and are all at are respective homes by eight leaving the roads to the crazies.

I used to enjoy going to wild orgies (or at least sexually stimulating parties) on NYE when I was young; now I stay home, watch the ball drop at midnight in Times Square on tv, and since, as deej says, it is still only 9pm here on the west coast, I can go to bed at my normal hour.

I usually go out for a nice dinner and ring in the new year at home with a friend or two. This year, I think my neighbors and I will do a low-key thing in our condo building's courtyard.

Why not liven things up this year?

A little seltzer might be nice . . .

I am hoping I have the night off from the day job. If I do then it'll be a simple Italian dinner most likely at Coastal Kitchen, some after dinnah coffee at Vivace and then scope out a good view for the fireworks off the top of the Space Needle. That is my intended plans for NYE.

Hugs,

Greg

For some reason, I find New Year's Eve a great night to watch a classic black-and-white movie. A Preston Sturges comedy -- "The Lady Eve" "The Palm Beach Story," "Hail, the Conquering Hero." This year: "All About Eve."

In a prior life, I was a banker. Before I rose the the level where I could sneak in a vacation day or two during the holidays, New Years Eve was a grueling day with corporate clients demanding endless window dressing loan payments or monies transfered thither and yon for their year end balance sheets. I got into the habit of getting home, taking scant nourishment and heading to bed exhausted. One year I was fast asleep before the end of MacNiel Lehrer on the east coast. I was a touch lonely on New Years day until about noon when the rest of the world seemed to awake.

Like most years I plan to remain home but I might try a "disco nap" in order to log on and watch the festivities live from the Stock Bar Montreal.

Damn right! :D

Don't get me wrong! Times Square on NYE is not an experience I regret. (Nor is the mall in DC on July 4th, etc.) These are events I think everyone should experience. Once. While young.

Thats great, so a drag show and then another drag show LOL. its what makes Lady Gaga live so much fun she has better costumes than even some of the best drag divas.

We were planning Stonehenge this year but family death has put that trip on Ice. so Im guessing Im joining Lanky but we did All about Eve last year. I'm torn Auntie Mame (obviously one of my favorites) or Sunset Boulevard ("Im ready for my close up Mr. Demille")

LOL...that would be hilarious...no, just watching. ;)

If you want a good drag experience...go to the Connection in Louisville, KY...the best drag show in the US from what I've experienced. The Baton in Chicago gets a lot of attention but every time I go they drag (yeah, I know) the show...like there are moments of silence, etc. As well, Candis Cayne performs every Monday night at the Abbey in LA's WeHo...but that's just a one-person show. She's very passable...and has great personality...but not really a "drag show", per se (glamor, costumes--she does something with a fan and her hair that's hot, though).

When in Portofino, there was a couple there entertaining some friends from out of town at the piano bar down at the Splendido Mare...started talking with the Italian couple...when I mentioned I was from Chicago she got excited and starting saying, "Oh...the batooon...the batooon..." I kind of thought she was talking about the Baton but didn't want to be assumptive until she made hand motions of breasts and her husband mentioned transsexuals. How random, it really seemed. :)
